As a new artist I appreciate this video very much! I was always wondering why once I colored my images in they just didn't "feel" right, and now I know why! Thank you for making this video in an easy and digestible way. 💜
This video is so insanely helpful even for a long time artist. Helps me put concrete terms to ideas I’ve vaguely understood just through thinking how things might feel “wrong”
Im student in graphic designing, but im (a little bit) colour blind. So i always struggle a lot with colours making my designs very dark. This video has opend a world, i thought i would never see.
I've been studying colors to add to my illustrations for the past few months, and even though I know most of this video, it's all put together well in one place so that I can go back here to check something I might have forgotten.
2:02 ngl, would’ve went for a light green with a very pale, low saturated yellow border. I feel like the light color would keep the audience grounded, and green gives it that natural feel which people want in their beauty products. The yellow would be used to contrast the green and the bg for her would also be green since the yellow is providing contrast
The fact that this video is free is just stupid. Thank you for this starter designer goldmine Satori, you outdid yourself yet again and earned my (and most likely many others') respect.
Not saying you're wrong about color psychology, but you showed some ugly designs as an example of good and effective design. Sometimes you have to take a step back from thinking too professionally. The average person will look at it and say it's ugly and no matter what the psychology says, it will repulse them. The yellow and green and blue and orange literally made my eyes feel uncomfortable. Maybe psychology is why we get such ugly websites and we can't figure out why.
Even though Im a digital artist rather than a graphic designer, I feel like this video is better structured and clearer than any colour video made by a digital artist
Re 16:47 purple, the reason for the association with royalty comes from the Byzantine Empire's tradition when a child was born to parents bearing the imperial purple described by Anna Comnena, a Byzantine princess and author of the Alexiad. Before Pantene and Photoshop, back in the days of old Rome and Byzantium the purple dye obtained from sea snails used to color the cloth. This was so expensive it became s a status symbol. In the USA is also considered a regal and elegant color, especially within the dress choices for church wear within the African American communities
A slightly longer than usual video from Satori Graphics but well worth every second. A true comprehensive crash course into Colour Theory that will be a great asset for beginners and experienced artists & designers alike! Thank you.
Regarding color psychology: while denying the existence of it is foolish, but also I _feel_ that it is too simplistic to be true. It is almost like astrology and crystal healing, how it is commonly used. If we could get access to the website of a world known brand, we could create an experiment where colors are randomly selected and we could measure the click-through rates, the "click through and actually do something" rates, we could also filter it by country and so on. That would be collection of real data. But I don't think that "Yellow means energetic" holds up in every context.
i agree, psychological stuff is often pretty murky territory and can get into weird generalizations. it also seems weird to think of color design in terms of (practically) manipulating the viewer into some sensations and actions instead of a general artistic approach.
Welcome to marketing and graphic design. It is what it is. Yes it's subjective, however this stuff works on a majority, hence why large scale organisations within branding and marketing use it. Corporate graphic design is akin to a creative science rather than art. Those who know, know.
@@SatoriGraphics Didn’t you think that certain colors and color schemes work in certain areas just because it’s common this area using this color? Great video! I learned a lo! Although, being someone without any schooling in art, one thing that took me forever to realize is that when finding color schemes, you use a different color wheel than what’s usually in the hue wheel of Photoshop.
Hey, minor nitpick here with the section at 4:07 While it is true that red and green objects are more stimulating than blue ones, it's the reverse for light. That's because daylight has a lot of blue in it and shifts toward red on sundown. Being in a room illuminated with nothing but red light (as seen in the section) makes people sleepy, being in a room illuminated by white light and containing lots of red objects is stimulating.
The correlation between colors and certain emotions/imaginery largely varies based on culture and personal experience and- okay lol you just said it now damn Alright, I'm still commenting this for the algorithm ig

My reasoning is that these very simple mathematical methods of generating the color wheel cannot really map into the subleties of an evolution honed system which has its own quirks. hey! AMAZING VIDEO absolutely loved it !! can i get the link for the colour wheel.. the one im getting is basically very sus with the colours accuracy please help me :3
I don’t know.. feelings are subjective. To me the reason the left image pops is because of the contrast. Red is a very vibrant color, and the human eye is naturally attracted to it. The middle doesn’t work cause the frequency of blue on the visual light spectrum is actually darker than red, causing there to be not much of any contrast Right doesn’t work cause green is not a creative color. Well, that’s a joke, but making green work is difficult if not done right . Both yellow and green sit right next to each other on the spectrum, not a good start. You’ll need to introduce a third color to make it harmonious (such as red) or change the brightness and opaqueness of one of them. But why even go with those colors when you can do a bajillion other better combinations! Sorry for ranting!! I did enjoy watching your video

I don’t know.. feelings are subjective. To me the reason the left image pops is because of the contrast. Red is a very vibrant color, and the human eye is naturally attracted to it.
The middle doesn’t work cause the frequency of blue on the visual light spectrum is actually darker than red, causing there to be not much of any contrast
Right doesn’t work cause green is not a creative color.
