I retired from teaching after 41 years in 2019. I taught first, second and third grade. Most of my career was in second grade. You are so lucky, your classroom is so large. Been watching all your set up videos this summer! Love the videos :) I might make one suggestion with the secret stories Posters (that you obviously don't need to take, it's your room.) But I think you could take down your book characters and read letters. Then put 2 to 3 rows of secret stories so they aren't crowding around the board. You could put your read letters on top of your tallest bookshelf (command strip to stay put) and you characters could go on your chall/whiteboard. It just might make the front of the board feel less overwhelming! 🤷🏻♀️ Hope this school year goes well for you! 😊
I also think you could mount 2 more in the right corner in the top row. I still think students could see them in that corner, but I agree if you had put more in the 2nd row they wouldn't be visible.

I LOVE the transformation!! It's looking great!! I will say, those Secret Stories posters are killing me though LOL, but you're right, there just isn't anywhere better for them. Maybe since you already used them with this crew when they were 3rd graders you could do something fun and put them on the ceiling tiles? Otherwise, yep, you've probably got them in the best place.
@@_ThirdGradeSwag I really love the plain colored and black book boxes in contrast to your rainbow drawers and overall green and blue! As someone with severe ADHD, too much color is just as bad as not enough and you really have a nice mix!!
Looking good! I’m on my way into my classroom right now hoping I can make just as much progress as you did. 😊 As for your calendar, I hate doing it too. But the kids love to change the numbers. So if you decide to keep that calendar, just have the kids change it out since they already climb up on that counter anyway. Just a thought! I always try to get them to do anything they can to help especially since at this age they love to do it!
That’s a good idea! I might do that… but last year I took a desk calendar and wrote our academic calendar and their birthdays on there in September and it was so nice having that done for the whole year 😅 I’m lazy if you can’t tell haha
@@_ThirdGradeSwag 😂 I don’t think it’s laziness. I think it’s getting things done ahead of time because you know how crazy the year gets. That is a good idea to have everything written in ahead of time. I tend to get too caught up in the details. I’ve actually learned from watching you to just get things done and if something really bothers me I can fix it later if I have time. 😆 Done is better than perfect! That is my new mantra. 😉
Also, I am extremely jealous of your height when it comes to classroom set up. I know someone mentioned that in the comments of another video, but I am only 5’ 4” and I hate climbing up and down the ladder constantly to be able to hang things up high. 😂 I’m sure there are times in life when your height isn’t always an advantage, but with classroom set up, it definitely is! 😊

Do you happen to remember where you got your “READ” letters? I have some from Michaels that spell MATH, but I’m now changing positions and would love to put READ up somewhere.

I used a desk calendar the last couple of years and I loved it.
It just makes life so much easier! Plus, you can write in all the important dates and birthdays at the beginning of the year!

They does make diffuser covers for those lights. We had them in our sensory class and sped classroom.
