    Hi Keith. Just set up my pro 200. Love the print quality so far. I have a couple questions and thought best person to ask would be you. I hope you don't mind...
    Is it best to just leave your printer on between prints or power it off? And by power it off is there a difference between unplugging it or just turning it off at the power button? Also, can you have a printer in a room that's too cold? I live in the mountains of BC, Canada and the room I've got space for the printer is quite cold. Never freezing but maybe 5-10c on average in winter.
    Thanks for any guidance

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому +1

      See the specs at the foot of the review for the actual Canon figures for both of these:
      www.northlight-images.co.uk/canon-pro-200-printer-review/
      I leave it plugged in of the time - the specs suggest the power used is tiny. I believe it defaults to turning off after a period of no use
      As to temperature, a minimum of 5 is mentioned (min 15 recd)
      This is guesswork but too low temp will thicken lubricants and the increase the viscosity of the inks.

    I was poised to buy the Pro-100 and the very next day it was discontinued. Is it worth getting this new 200 or scrambling for one of the last 100 models? I see no serious comparison videos.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  3 роки тому

      Well, my PRO-100 review dates from 2014 - long before I started adding videos to supplement the full reviews.
      www.northlight-images.co.uk/canon-pixma-pro-100-printer-review/
      I've also only just got the 200 turn up here for a review.
      However, my initial feeling is that the 200 does away with many of the paper margin issues I found with the 100. Also it has a screen rather than just the two 'guess what's happening' buttons on the front.
      So, the specs will tell you a lot.
      Print differences are hardly going to be huge - they use the same printhead after all, but the 200 inks are improved (I'm told)
      I'll cover this in the full (written) review in the colour management and B&W sections, but it's not something I feel you can meaningfully show in a YT video ('meaningfully' being the important bit to me ;-) )
      I'll be having a look at a 200/300 comparison as well since I've now got both here

    • @nikmills
      @nikmills 3 роки тому

       @Keith Cooper : Thank you. Wonderful to get such a detailed response to my inquiry. Looks like there's no reason to chase down the older model. I look forward to the 200/300 comparison as the 300 is a possibility for me as well.
      Your 100 review mentions ink costs. I believe I saw a comment somewhere stating the 200 uses smaller cartridges - therefore even more expensive ink. Regardless, the information screen and margin issue rectification are upgrade enough. I appreciate your reviews. I will be sure to utilize your links for my purchase.

      There is a minor change in the printing quality, but not enough that I would make profiles at different settings.
      As to ink use, the only setting that's designed to use far less is the draft setting for some media, where the difference is obvious. There may be changes at other levels, but I suspect they are insignificant given the similar look of prints.

      "Thank you for forwarding your support request to us.
      High quality uses the highest resolution with higher ink consumption. The resolution changes according to the paper media used, if you use plain paper the high quality is the best for that type of paper but lower than when using a professional photo paper.
      Standard quality uses half the resolution of high quality.
      The consumption of inks in inkjet printers is not exclusively linked to printing activities, it can also occur during maintenance activities, such as the nozzle test or head cleaning, or during switching on and off to ensure guarantee.
      The values indicated on the product specifications refer to standard pages with a guarantee of coverage of the sheet performed continuously."

    The lack of 3rd party ink cartridges is a deal breaker. If you love spending bags of money on Canon ink cartridges, by all means buy this printer or be prepared to transplant cartridge chips and refill your own… also deal breaker. I regret buying this gigantic, ink sucking doorstop of a printer.

    • @KeithCooper

      I can only disagree - I've never seen third party inks which I'd consider using.
      This is a printer I'd get for print quality, not cheapness...
      For example, the idea of needing to create all new printer profiles is not one I'd welcome. Of course, if profiles are not important then a cheaper printer is indicated...

      I look at printers and printing primarily from a print quality POV. It's up to others to decide if they want that, or go some other route based on their cost needs and other requirements.
      3rd party inks would at very least require me to recreate icc printer profiles - fine if I have the kit to do it, not something many would have.
      If people don't care about profiles, then good, they get the results they get and they may well be satisfied. I would not be in that group.
      As I said YMMV...
      If it breaks it for you, then so be it.
      There are cheaper printers, there are cheaper inks - there is a market for this ...just not one I would personally consider.
