I love it when people in general embrace their heritage. Sad how white people have all these national backgrounds, yet can't speak any of those languages or don't practice any of those traditions. That's how you know some don't have culture
umm, the same could be said for blacks and hispanics as they dont speak and practice their old native languages and traditions. Whatever their old native customs, it has either morphed overtime into something different, or become out of practice. Also some white people do embrace their backgrounds and practice their languages and customs, but its usually the more recent immigrants and their second gen children that do this, not really the ones whose families have lived in the US for many decades or centuries. Overtime, all the various specific backgrounds fade away and become closer to the general, modern culture in whichever country today.
Because it might be extremely difficult for blacks to trace their ancestry back? South Africa alone has a multitude of cultures and languages! We have 11 official languages in SA alone! So how can black americans traces their ancestry back when Africa literally has thousands of tribes lol :/
It took me unreasonable number of years after loving this to stumble upon Lowdown by Boz Scaggs, but thats the main melody for anyone else that’s been living under a rock and is a musical philistine like me!
"Soul Train" Every Saturday morning My daddy put it on Turned up the TV We danced along People was dancing Was in the groove My daddy showed me Just how to move We did the hustle I gave a twirl He was the disco I was his girl Up on the Soul Train We learned to move Up in the morning My daddy grooved Freak, freak y'all! Yes, yes y'all! Freak, freak y'all! Yes, yes y'all! To the beat y'all! [x4] Summertime is creepin' Fevers stay afloat Was hanging out With everyone I know Crank the music Feel the vibe Hit the boogie No time for jive Hanging like the hippies Wanting peace and love Hanging with my brothers It's what it was Started up the street jam We was having fun Harlem, boogie down, Lower East too! I wanna dance, now how bout you? [x4] I got glitter in my bangs And all my bills is paid You know my hair is laid You know my soul is safe I'm working and I'm paid I always misbehave I shake it like some change I can shake it every day Shake it 'til I break it Break it down Move away Saturday morning It feels like Soul Train I break it down I move away Saturday morning It feels like Soul Train Freak, freak y'all! there has to be another classification for "sampling." The only difference between this song and lowdown are the lyrics and nuanced changes in melody. A majority of this song keeps the same musical integrity by making little to no changes in the essential components of the "sampled" song. I think we should somehow reconsider what sampling consists of: sampling should be understood as a creative process of adding previously produced/heard musical components to compliment or enhance another creative work. So the sampling piece should help the "new" creative work flourish in a new musical direction (the creative process of sampling is first and foremost to sublimate), without risking too great of similarities to the pre existing sampled song. Still a great song. But this is beyond a sample. But I am very thankful that someone pointed out that the sound of this song literally comes from another era.
Logan Kostos You just described half of the hip hop era of the late 80s to 90s! Thank God for those samples, introduced alot of us to Breakbeats and appreciation of songs before our time. Music is a circle, sampling grabs our hand and take us into music time machines where the circle began 😗
accidentally stumbled onto this vid - the opening had my head bobbing - then they hit me w/ the orange creamsicles THEN she starting signing, man so many good vibes!!! loves it XD
Hey let's pretend it's a damn hot summer in 1978. Love it.
U know a music video is good when your 90 year old granny likes it
it also tells you theres nothing innovative about it.

Every Saturday morning
My daddy put it on
Turned up the TV
We danced along
People was dancing
Was in the groove
My daddy showed me
Just how to move
We did the hustle
I gave a twirl
He was the disco
I was his girl
Up on the Soul Train
We learned to move
Up in the morning
My daddy grooved
Freak, freak y'all!
Yes, yes y'all!
Freak, freak y'all!
Yes, yes y'all!
To the beat y'all! [x4]
Summertime is creepin'
Fevers stay afloat
Was hanging out
With everyone I know
Crank the music
Feel the vibe
Hit the boogie
No time for jive
Hanging like the hippies
Wanting peace and love
Hanging with my brothers
It's what it was
Started up the street jam
We was having fun
Harlem, boogie down, Lower East too!
I wanna dance, now how bout you? [x4]
I got glitter in my bangs
And all my bills is paid
You know my hair is laid
You know my soul is safe
I'm working and I'm paid
I always misbehave
I shake it like some change
I can shake it every day
Shake it 'til I break it
Break it down
Move away
Saturday morning
It feels like Soul Train
I break it down
I move away
Saturday morning
It feels like Soul Train
Freak, freak y'all!
Yes, yes y'all!
Freak, freak y'all!
Yes, yes y'all!
