As George Harrison once said, “The Band is the greatest band in the universe, ever.” Avoid the gossip and just listen to the music. Their first two albums, Music From Big Pink and The Band (some call it the brown album because of the jacket color) are two of the most important in rock. They changed a lot of musicians’ ideas about what rock music should sound like. George Harrison and Eric Clapton wanted to join them. They are unique in having three superb lead vocalists, but pay special attention to Richard Manuel, who Levon Helm called The Band’s lead singer. Add Garth Hudson who is the most amazing keyboard player in rock and a terrific horn and woodwinds...the guy was a one-man horn section, and he made the accordion cool for rock. Robbie Robertson is a great guitarist, Levon Helm a great drummer and I’ve been trying to figure out how Rick Danko sounds so good on bass. They all change around instruments, Richard goes from piano to drums and it’s a whole different rhythm section, Garth moves from keys to horns, in the same song on several songs. Did I leave anything out? Yes, just listen. It’ll stick with you for a long, long time.

I read years ago that Mavis Staples (the 1st lead vocal in the gospel trio) thought that Robbie Robertson (lead guitarist) was about the finest thing she'd ever seen and she couldn't take her eyes off him. That look she's giving him from 1:46-2:09...whoa. If a woman is looking at you like that, you better have some answers, son!

Levon and his crew were enjoying the bugged out fanboy silliness of me and my bud after a small performance at a country bar/show hall. We were with friends all older from 5 to 15 years and 1 fella knew Levon for a long time. So we got invited along upstairs. The staples and Levon, and the band,of course. Levon is a legend. And his band, the band, lol, and add the staple singers, it just doesn't get much better. Rest in peace, Levon Helm.

Thanks for playing this dear I. If you like Christmas and that Drummer, his daughter Amy Helm, Levon Helm’s daughter, she sings “Christmas Must be Tonight”. This song was written by Robbie Robertson of The Band. Daryl Hall. and Shelby sing it on Daryl’s House. Wow! Anyway, they were Bob Dylan’s band early on. God bless

Levon Helm on drums and vocals. He's one of those folks that seems eternally present, even though he's gone.

When I was younger man, we didnt listen to music. We FELT it. These guys were originally the backup band for Bob Dylan when he traveled in early 60's. The man you speak of is Mr. Levon Helm. A legend

Robbie Robertson is the lead guitarist with the double fret guitar. Robbie, a well-respected composer, freely admitted that he was inspired to write a number of songs based on stories his band mates told him about their lives. You see, Robbie is a Canadian-born man and he learned from his band mates what it was like to be raised in different parts of America. After The Band split up, Robbie continued with a solo career, writing all the songs on his subsequent albums. To my knowledge, the rest of The Band members did not create any new music in their own wright. Robbie’s work after The Band often centered on the plight of the Native American people. When he was young, the record executives told him to keep his mouth shut about his Indian blood. But as a middle-aged man, he was tired of being quiet. The best way he knew to tell his own story was through his subsequent songwriting. ❤️

No one ever discusses just how good the audio quality is on “The Waltz” to be filmed in the 70’s. So clean and clear....
