- This short film, in which a hunter is pursued, bound up and carried to a cave, tells the legend of a river, and of how fog came to the land. The story is enacted by Inuit using katadjak or throatsinging. The audience is locked in an alien world of sights and sounds where human activity seems propulsed by primeval forces.
Directed by Co Hoedeman - 1975 | 7 min

I’m guessing, this is just a guess mind you, one has to know this type or style of story telling to begin with. The creators have captured one of the far norths people old legends. Remember the break down at the beginning of the film. I had to watch it three times for it to make sense to me. I find it fascinating. 😶🌫️
So this what after school specials are like for Innuit kids.
actually, yes. the teacher brought in the big TV and a VHS of this video lmao (i never knew it was only 7 minutes long)
we also watched like Mulan and other older disney movies too though
I dont think we say eskimo anymore.....
A lot of people don't care about saying eskimo. Some people take pride in it. It is important to not get caught up in modern day politics and look at history as being problematic. The past, like this film, needs to be acknowledged for what it is and not censored or altered to appease an everchanging set of rules based on a culture of victimizing people.
@@newcenobium8872 Just saying go to nunavut & start calling people eskimos & tou might have a problem..Go somewhere else it's cool.
@@class2instructor32 It would depend on the manner in which you did so. If you ran around a city calling people an array of names, I bet people would disapprove no matter what you were calling them. I imagine people in Nunavut have more important things to focus on than getting angry at a decent person respectfully saying the word "eskimo". And even if it really was a problem that is still no reason to try to censor history, like this film, or revise it. Look at the video; do you think the producers, actors, crew, and so on were being ignorant when they titled the film? I doubt it. So, why make an issue of this historical piece?
@@newcenobium8872 Actually, "Eskimo" is considered by many people as a racial slur. When my little Brother worked in a inuit village in the north of Quebec, One of his colleague had the word "eskimo" on his equipment. The town people didn't appreciate it.
@@lazynasic4570 it can be offensive to certain people, but, like I said, that is not a reason to censor or revise history. There is no reason for the title of this video to be considered problematic. Especially considering the context in which this video was made.
That's how big there are? I thought bigger then tree but bigger
