Thanks so much for this. It's irksome that a $100 part was required to replace the failed grommet but your instructions were perfect. And honestly, despite the failed grommet, I'm impressed with how Whirlpool has made it easy to replace pats.

Great “how to” video! I ended up using a wider clamp during replacement, but other than that small adjustment, everything else was seamless. Thanks!

Excellent video however after reading some posts here that they installed the pump without removing the dishwasher from under the counter I thought I would give it a try. 15 minutes later I was done. For me it usually isn't the repair but the all the other things that go wrong during the process because the systems and its environment is old and brittle. The less things I need to move the better. Tried my first load and no leaks. Does sound a little louder though. Not like anything is breaking or anything. WIll monitor and provide updates but I think I'm in business until something else fails. Good luck!

Thank you for this. Thanks to your instructions I could take my dw apart properly. My dw filled, but then did not spray. I thought it was the sump, but ended up cleaning all turbidity sensor (it was loaded with build up) and put it all back together. Works great now! Thanks so much, fixed it before my husband got home. He was pretty psyched he didn't have to get into it.

Why can i just buy the grommet for the diverter motor? Makes no sense.

    • @ADubTheGrizzy
      @ADubTheGrizzy 3 роки тому

Your question makes no sense. Whirlpool stopped selling the grommet by itself to increase profit margins, aftermarket companies started selling the grommet by itself to fill this void in the market.

@@ADubTheGrizzy I tried just the grommet and mine still leaked, only buying the whole part did the trick.

This was by far the best and most complete video. I’ve watched several other videos and was frustrated with little things they forgot to mention which gave me trouble. Thanks for helping me fix my washer!

This is the complicated method. There is no need to disconnect the water and drain or remove the dishwasher as everything can be done with it in place. Normally we replace the sump assembly which includes the wash pump and diverter. So no need to take that off. Highly recommend not messing with the pump or diverter seals as those will leak if disterbed.

      1. How much is the Sump Assembly? 2. Do you have a video of how you do it?

I bought a new sump base b/c the grommet around the diverter spindle was leaking. Swapped everything out (great instructions) and it's still leaking. Much less than before, but still leaking. Do we need to treat the spindle with anything before reinstalling it? Otherwise, do I need to now replace the diverter motor unit as well?

Just changed out the sump thanks to you! Felt like you were there with me! This video gave me the confidence to do the job. Really well worded!
Just one thing though. My drain pump was 180 degrees off of yours. I took pictures before I took everything apart and when I put the pump back I thought it was funny the pump didn’t lock to anything and was worried it would work it’s way loose. I check my picture and my pump is 180 degrees off from yours. After I turned the pump 180 degrees there was a lock tab that kept the pump from backing out. This lock tab on mine is what you are using for a wiring harness holder.
Again, thanks for such a well made video!

Same with us. When we were sliding it back into the cabinet, the pump fell on to the floor. Thankfully we spotting the upside down installation (from a beginning picture) and corrected it.
Here’s to the entire process working and is not having a leaky dishwasher!

At 7:30 you remove a sump pump seal, but never discuss how to put it back in. In your video, When the motor is re-installed, the seal is missing. On my model it is VERY difficult to get the seal in it’s hole once the seal is attached to the motor. And equally difficult to attach to the motor when the seal is put on first.

One thing that worked better for me was to slip the sump gasket on the pump before sliding it into the sump.

This wonderful video helped me replace the sump in my Kitchenaid KUDE48FXss5. I did not have to detach all the wiring and I set the part in while the dishwasher was on its back. I did have to tap pretty hard on the part to get it set for the tabs to get back in place. Very easy to follow even though all my parts didn’t look exactly like those on the machine in the video. I recommend buying the hose clamp on the main motor at the same time you buy the sump because I had to cut the clamp off. I’m glad I read a recommendation in the comments for this part in their website. Also I’ve read a few comments stating they installed this part without pulling out the dishwasher ...that could not have worked for the model I repaired.

Five years later, and this video is still awesome! I hesitate taking on some of these projects, but this video made it so much easier! Just like having someone there with me. I’m always afraid of things leaking afterwards and everything was perfect and having this video, just gave me that much more confidence! Thanks so much!

Except when inserting back the white divertor motor shaft it is much harder to find the correct position. You might have to go inside the tub of the dishwasher to turn the round plastic diverter piece to match it up good with the motor actuator shaft.
    Just a FYI
