Scytale Cipher Encryption
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ancient Egyptians and Greeks, particularly the Spartans used the Scytale cipher to encrypt messages. It was a simple transposition cipher that could be cracked fairly easily but in the heat of battle would have been useful. The key was the diameter of the "stick" had to be identical for the code to work. For this demo I'm using a glass and a can of paint, but you get the idea.
You'll note that I am seriously bad at transposing right from left when I try to put the glass in front of the camera. LOL. I hope the video gets the point across anyway and that it's not too boring watching me haplessly wrap the tape around the glass.
Thanks alot for this demonstration, it explains it well. I got here after watching assasins creed odessy scytale mission
I am reading a book about cryptography and this way of codding was mentioned in the book but I hadnt gotten it. Thank you for the clear demonstration. Sorry for the grammer mistakes english language is not my mothertongue.
In actual implementation, I don’t think this would ever be carried out in this manner. It is missing a step in the process, which is to fill the gaps between the letters either with random letters, or fit words between them. The later is a bit more challenging but achievable.
Perfectly explained, thanks!
Useful demo. You are a great man.
illuminated this cryptography technique very well 👍
I really liked the demonstration, nice work
Muito bom. Amei!
Good example!
That's so cool....would you please consider making a video comparing web development job vs security in IT?Why did you choose to transition?
Thank you
Hi Marina. Still working on that transition so not 100% confident I'm ready to discuss. I will definitely post something when I'm "there."
