      Shrimp trawling is definitely not as easy as some would think. The guys that stick with it have to truly love being on the water or need money really bad. I've spent more money trying to catch shrimp than money I've made selling them. 😆 I guess I'm one of the few who love shrimping.

    Good to see you all learning to become more efficient and not utilizing more time than necessary which would equate to possibly ANOTHER DRAG by saving time and working smarter. Having trawled commercially (28 years, 90% of trips by my self, 4-6 days per week seasonally: 27’ Lafitte Skiff, pulling 40’-45’ trawl w/7’ boards…being time-efficient meant more financially! Keep on learning…still more to learn! GOOD LUCK

    Like your new boat how may gallons an hour do you think you're burning?Commercial fished for 35 yrs and enjoyed it.Sold my last boat 2013 due to poor seasons seasons and the BP oilspill Mississippi sound has never been the same.

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  Рік тому

      I'm sorry to hear that, brother. It was sad to hear about that oil spill. I hear it put a hurting on a lot of guys in that area and the wildlife. Sad. I really haven't figured up how much fuel this boat is using per hour. We're using it to pull a 40' trawl net with 2.5' x 5' doors, and its 5.7 mercruiser will pull this gear at 1200 rpms. It's not doing bad at all while trawling. Sadly, the boat only gets around 1.5 to 2 mpg on plain. I'm hoping I can take it easy and get a few years out of the motor. We'll see how it goes. Take care and stay safe.

      We're pulling a 40' net. I've heard others say there used to be plenty of small boats trawling. There's not many doing it now. We do it mostly for fun. We're commercial and licensed to sell our catch but spent more money than we've made.

    Good to see you learning brother you still need a salt barrel and I seen a video where you had that rope around that pole when you where pulling in your Ted man I was craping my pants thought the pole would break but anyway you need some elephant ears on that trawl so when you winch it in it’ll be just the bag that comes on board and it would help you to put you some tie up bits near your winch over head so you can tie up better

It's fishing, not catching. LOL. I'm hoping it gets a little easier, and we start catching more of the big shrimp that we're after. We'll see how it goes. Shrimpin ain't easy.
