Thanks for the video! The real big surprise for me is just how good S-video is. I always though it was a decent improvement over composite but RGB and Component is where you have to go to get real quality but I honestly find it kind of hard to see that much of a difference between them.

It’s a high quality S-Video cable, that may have something to do with it (RetroGamingCables), I was surprised as well. For consoles like the GCN, Component is the clear winner, figuratively and literally, but here on the SNES, it interesting how close they are. I think component has the more natural colors, and thanks to the component cables having a bright/dark switch you can ensure you match the contrast best to each game. S-Video is really really good though, for the price, it’s an excellent upgrade! Even the high end S-Video cables are half the cost of the component cables for the SNES.

@@RetroBoost I imagine the improvement of component for consoles like the GameCube are more down to having access to 480p rather than the actual cables themselves. If that’s true than I guess ps2 would be the only (over 240p) console where the improvement isn’t that big of a deal as 480p is so rare on it.

@@havoc7069 yes you are 100% on both points. That is what I was getting at, but should’ve just stated outright. 480p out of the GCN is so good, way better than 480i over the same cable type. For the PS2, most of those games are 480i, so few are 480i. Out of like the 50 something PS2 games I own I think only like 5 or less can do it. For GameCube, I’ve got nearly 80 and I think less than 5 can’t do 480p.

Thanks for watching! Though I didn’t go into it, make sure your tv is in game mode to keep input lag to a minimum (for the tv itself, the 2X Pro doesn’t add any). Beyond that, go nuts with whatever settings you like most. For some TVs, you may have to manually change the aspect ratio to 4:3. I had to with my Samsung with the 2X Pro.

One thing I've come to learn and understand since making this video is that you can get an RGB Mod for the 1 Chip that further sharpens the image and reduces the brightness/over saturation of the color. You can read about that here for anyone who is interested: voultar.com.

S-video and rgb are very close on the SNES and the Sega Genesis with the 2Xpro. I can confirm after testing myself.

Glad I’m not crazy! My theory held true that difference is way more noticeable when either the resolution is being scaled higher and/or the base resolution is higher by default. The 5X Pro gameplay video I just did on the SNES shows that, the component and RGB clips are more visibly superior to the S-Video ones. Additionally for consoles like the GameCube, you need component for 480p output; S-Video is a step up from composite, but the 480p Barrier stands unless you go component for a console like that.

it could be cool to see retrotink 2X PRO with NES RGB Modded both with Composite, S-Video, and Component. since I considered buying the Retrotink 2X PRO if it looks okay with the signal and with a capture card

I’ve always been curious about RGB modding an NES. My NES just died two days ago. Right in the midst of a livestream where I was going to mess around with it with my 5X Pro no less. I need to replace it or try to get it fixed, either way this might be the perfect situation to try and get a modded one. With the 2X Pro and a regular NES, the picture is fine if you use the scanline filter, that hides some of the roughness that composite brings with it. S-Video out of consoles like the SNES is excellent, and good for N64 and GCN.

@@RetroBoost some said it could be fun to see with NES RGB Modded just like you have done with SNES in this video. keep up the good work 💪😁

1000 subscribers Mike well done 😊 f zero plays faster than most current gen games😂😂 I'm still baffled to how they managed to get star fox on a snes cartridge and it was ahead of its time ,great video

Thanks so much!! You are another one of the appreciated OGs of the channel! I started to get good at Death Wind II there lol, I think I recorded the composite footage last, that would be the “most skilled” footage haha. It’s pretty nuts what they did with Starfox, instead of expanding the system they expanded the cartridge, which worked. Crazy!

@@niallmclarney That’s a great idea, would be fun to make. My game collection has grown more than 10X since the channel started, I’ve re-acquired most if not all of the stuff I originally owned as kid for most consoles.
