Kirk Hammett is a super interesting guy. He owns a bunch of memorabilia from old cowboy and horror movies. I believe he has a book of pictures and stories about some of the stuff he owns…. Anyway, I’ve seen a few interviews where he talks about getting some musical inspiration from movie scores.

There's a vid on UA-cam of Les and Robert Trujillo playing together. Think it's an ad for pickups or something, either way it's weird and brilliant as expected.
Whoa, the horses really took off on a fast gallop @ 6:50. Sounds like this could be the soundtrack to a modern day western movie or a spaghetti western.
Guy has been playing over 40 years including writing metallica’s classic riffs and solos and people are surprised that he can compose a solo album that has a feeling and ambiance to it.. still underrated? And no hate meant. Just surprised.

Only thing I'm surprised here is how he didn't find a drummer to this, or even someone to properly program drums for him.
Geebz, there's just too much great music to share with someone awesome like you in one lifetime. I think we're going to have to step up the channel to five videos a day. What do you think? Lol.
@@KeyOfGeebz I'm jamming to Fear Factory and Unless the Archers this morning and every track is just over the top in it's own unique way. Just so much great music!
That’s what I felt about the album. He is. Ore showing composition. It’s very cool, especially for a guy like him. I thought it be shredded or what not. It’s more feel the music. I dug it, but I know ppl have that image of more solos or crazy stuff, but a lot also sounded like soundtracks to a movie.
yeah maybe, but the intro (& aals the main theme I see !) is 100 % a little slowed down intro to "To Tame a Land" from iron Maiden, how can he ignore that ? I'm a bit shocked I have to say...No copyright strike for him either ? Other than that I'm not super convinced, sorry
Please check this out. Not saying a 'reaction' or 'decomposing', just a general listen in one's own time at their leisure. *Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge is the first solo album by Finnish songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, best known for his work in the symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was based on cartoonist Don Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, a graphic novel which featured the Carl Barks Disney comics character of the same name. Rosa contributed the cover artwork. The first single, "A Lifetime of Adventure" was released on February 5, 2014 along with a music video directed by Ville Lipiäinen.[1][2] It features several vocalists including Johanna Kurkela, Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica and narration by Alan Reid, with lyrics in English and Scottish Gaelic. It also features the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the choir group Metro Voices, and several guest musicians including fellow Nightwish member Troy Donockley. *From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Id love you to look at Kiko Loureiro's (Lead guitarist of Megadeth) solo project Open Source, some amazing playing from my favorite guitar player in that whole album
Kirk is obviously hugely inspired by Ennio Morricone. However, as a sound engineer I can't really say I agree with the sound of the marching snare. He should have chosen a different drum, taken some bottom out of it, and put it way further back in the mix. But I guess with him being from Metallica, drums are always problematic.😉 Apart from that, it's a decent track.
It’s cool hearing something he wrote, because the writing for Metallica was almost exclusively just James and Lars (after Dave Mustane was fire), and Kirk was just brought in to play the solos during the recording. I know that on their more recent albums James finally loosened up a bit and let more people contribute and Kirk played some rhythm parts when they doubled up the guitars, rather than James just doing it all himself. Also, you can really tell that they’ve finally worked through some of their control issues because this sort of solo project was absolutely taboo for the majority of Metallica’s career. Occasionally they’d do an uncredited guest appearance here and there, but their rule in the band was “No side projects” and I think that policy is one of the reasons Jason Newstead left the band. That guy was in a ton of bands before and since Metallica, and I don’t think he liked being shackled creatively like that, and the way Lars picked on him early on was kinda shitty. In one of the final mix sessions, Lars kept telling the guy to turn down the bass until it was nearly inaudible, which he thought was a joke, but the guy did it and printed that as the final mix before it went off to mastering, which is why it doesn’t even sound like there’s bass on “…and Justice for All”. I’ve heard some fan mixes where they’ve used some plugins to pump up the bass, and it sounds kinda rough and flabby, like they went way too far in the other direction, but there’s one I saw where the guy basically had to re-record the bass parts and mix them back in, and that sounded better-but it kind of defeats the purpose of honoring the guy’s work by replacing him. I don’t know if they have the master tapes to those sessions anywhere or at least some proper stems where they could remix the album properly, but if they exist it needs to be done because there’s no balls to that record without the low end. Anyway, back to Kirk’s music. I liked what I heard, it definitely had some references to Metallica thrown in there, but it felt like he was scoring a film. Considering that he’s a big movie buff, particularly horror films, it doesn’t surprise me that he would’ve gone in that direction.
@@GrizzlyAt0ms did you not hear the blatant rip off of the 3 chords and then the picking of the beginning of stairway to heaven? You could even see geebz realize that as well I’m not going to search in the video but it’s more towards the beginning you’ll hear it.
@@javonmaley4359 I'm not sure if you are serious, but are you talking about the section after 1:55. That's standard Dsus4, D, Dsus2 (or actually Db with probably guitar tuned down a half step) and is kind of a rock cliche and in Stairway to Heaven this is in section before the the solo and also chords are played reverse order which doesn't matter anyway. Can’t wait for more

Take away his wah pedal and he can't play a note. Worst solos in metal.

Great to see Kirk found a drummer who could keep time. Must have been a pleasant change for him after all these years 😂
Although he better hurry home before Papa Jim realizes he snuck out in the middle of the night and pulls out the belt for a spanking...

Nick Johnston was a superb surprise some time ago with "Ignore alien orders" and "Remarkably Human"

Speaking of new instrumental single, Polyphia released a new single called Playing God.
