Karl looks fantastic. Well done. I am always so impressed by your ability to take on a new project and conquer all of the mechanical puzzles. Yes, very inspiring.
Hey Nike ! SOOO proud of what you have accomplished since the beginning ! Karl looks fantastic and I especially admire how you have pushed through all of the setbacks and bounced back with a more confidant and positive attitude ! You and Karl really seem to have become a team and I think your greatest adventures are still ahead ! Fair Winds Nike and thanks for letting me tag along !
Nike, my first comment after watching your vid's for a year. When you first got started I looked at Karl and thought "Oh Boy", I don't know about that boat. Gotta say you did an outstanding job. He looks young again. And what an inspiration you are to all the young girls out there that women really can do what men can. If my daughter was young I would have her watch all of these. Best of luck.
Nice work. You certainly chose a well-made boat to begin with, too often I see people put your level of work into a project that really should have been re-purposed into an artificial reef - even when they are finished with a full refit. Because you chose well, got the right help, and put in the labor - the pay off is a boat that a tribute to its owner.
Nike, you really need to go back and look at Karl when you first purchased him 2 years ago in the "Jungle of Mold" I really can't believe how far you have come with him! simply amazing!
Nike, Karl is looking really good. You are a true inspiration to others. I still remember how Karl looked when you arrived in Panama. My thought then was; if this girl can bring this boat back to life, you should get some kind of award. They should make a movie of all you have accomplished. You have my utmost respect and admiration. Truly, truly great work! Congrats!
Thx, +rob sacrey. I am a bit proud of his transformation, I have to admit ;). And Karl has rewarded my with a beautiful sailing season, which is awesome since all the hard work has paid off! My editor, Patrice, I actually thinking about a movie...but he just has not found the time yet. But we did already film some foottage for it...maybe one day :). Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Nike, just want to add my two cents worth of praise for the way Karl looks and for your changed attitude. There are so many of us following you and when you're not happy we all feel it with you. So, great job all the way around. Dave
What a beautiful job you've done on Karl, he looks like a brand new boat, I'm sure he appreciates all that you have done on him. I give you a world of credit for all the work you have personally done, most would not even attempt those things. Also when you were all the way up top of the Mass working, I got a little dizzy just watching, you are gutsy and courageous. I am proud of you, and look forward to all of your videos, one day I'll watch a movie about you and your many adventures, you are one of a kind. Stay safe.
You sure have stayed true to your goals! I have also followed you along this journey. The optimismen, the despair and now the rebirth of Karl! You have taken such good care of him, I'm sure Karl will do his best to take care of you! :)
I hope anyone in that part of the world who needs running rigging or sail or canvas work visit your friend Tom's shop ! Maybe post his GPS coordinates !!
Ultimate RESPECT to you Nike! These last few episodes are inspirational. You are amazing, willing to tackle any job without any complaints or trepidation. With a mentor such as Tom to work alongside you are truly blessed. I am sooooo jealous and can't wait to get out on the water myself soon. Wade.
Karl looks GREAT almost like new! Wow, I would go a long way to work with Tom what a great spot seems like you learned a TON while there. Love the White Spot Logo work on the side curtains and bow too, well done happy sailing!
I had to stop the video at 1:59 to say It is so nice to see your smiling, excited face. I remember how hard you had it in the beginning and how hard you have worked to get where you are today. You've had many setbacks, but while they cannot be called victories, you certainly have turned them into triumphs. Not many people would have continued as you have done. Karl does look great, but more importantly is you look happy. All the best to you and Karl. Now I can watch the rest.
You look SO happy, and I am happy for you. Way to go Nike! You have turned what could have been a boat ready for the scrap heap into a beauty. Great job!
Hello Nike! I'm pleased to see you so happy! I know there have been times when things didn't look so good, but you are a fighter and I'm utterly impressed by everything you have accomplished. I wish I had the same kind of stamina and attitude! Wish you all the best in your future adventures, looking forward to every new episode. Take care and happy sailing! S/V Tiger Lily, Vega #48, Norway
i always think when everything is done the boats starts smiling at me and the only thing i can do then is just smile back and enjoy! then your head is empty and organized and then there is room for the journey ahead , ich wünsche dir immer ein handbreit wasser unterm kiel and good health
Nike, you make me feel embarrassed when I see all the things you do on your boat. I love that you aren't afraid to try and tackle any project! More power to you! Wanna come and sail with me on ODIN for a season? I have lots of projects that need doing. Once again, I wait anxiously each week for you newest video! Continued good luck with Karl and your travels. Bill
Is this the same boat that two years ago was "In the Jungle of Mold"? Nike, what an amazing transformation! I'm sure you have grown more - exponentially. Bravo!!
nike what an amazing transformation, you go girl.your videos give the needed kick to get get my 21 footer back in the drink.i have my days, ive been on dialysis for 4 years now , I'm hoping to get the call soon.but I do live my life to the fullest, and try not to be slowed down,,,,fair winds an safe passages,,,paul
Very cool you found a man who knew about sail boats and was willing to help you with all the projects. You have learned a lot , almost time to have some fun! ha
That leak at the stuffing box is pretty bad, and it would make me nervous , but the rest of the boat looks great. Give yourself some credit because you took on not just one, but a whole new set of skill sets, and it looks like you've done very well at them. Looking forward to the next videos.
Hey +Comet Jockey Dave, yeah, the dripless was shurely not in a good stage. I did get a replacement and mounted it, no way u can move around with that amount of water coming into your boat... Ahoy, Nik & Karl
I'm super impressed you learned how to splice braid (Something I'm yet to learn!) Karl is looking fantastic Nike! Your blogs are the highlight of my day! I'm always feeling excited and inspired after watching them! Best of luck with the shaft seal, hope it doesn't turn out to be a major....
Well done to you, and Tom. Would love to wait to do all my projects with him. I did my winches, and now you've sparked me to service my windlass. Fab job Nike. And as well you manage to climb the mast, sew and get just the right shot.
WOW Nike! Karl looks fantastic!!! I got to give it to you Girl, you really work hard and it shows. Congratulations, now you have a proper Yacht to travel the world over! Keep it going!
This particular video reminded me of so many of these same projects we did over the years sailing our Pearson 43 here in the PNW. Karl is looking (even where one cannot see) quite shipshape. great progress. waves from Seattle
You have accomplished and learned so much. You are amazing. The videos are great too. Can you maybe do interview and tell us what you would like to do in the near term future, as far as travel, Karl and such and recount how you came to be where you are and where you would like to be in 6, 12 and 18 months?
When I watched season 1 #1 I thought.... wow what a ugly sail boat... But Nike you are making him into a swan from a ugly duckling. Way to go! And the skills you are learning are priceless. Thanks for sharing this.
Oh wow, you just got a rain catcher ? How could you do without, especially with all that rain there ! But, I guess you've not been too far away from cavitation so far.
Well, it's a bit tricky to go sailing during hurricane season :)...I already did try to move the boat around a bit so I could show not just refit but also some bits of lake sailing or exploring on land. But the refit is part of the boat life, too. And I am glad I get it done during hurricane season to then have less boat work lined up once I am out sailing. And I find that the sailing part soon gets a bit repetive as well...or are you talking just in general about moving the boat to different destinations? I am never sure what people mean by showing "more sailing". If it just means more footage of the boat out on the water, or more sailing related content in general as in going more into detail about the sailing? Let me know and I will see what I can do :) Ahoy, Nike & Karl
WhiteSpotPirates If the tides are low enough, rather than haul out. get all parts ready, back boat in close to beach at high tide , when tide goes out , quich like a bunny, put on new seal assy. have shaft disconnected and cleaned up while waiting for the tide to drop. Use a nut driver for clamps instead of screwdriver, easier, safer, faster.
It looks brilliant. A longer view and 360 of the boat would be great. Really well done. Why is there oil in the anchor Windlass? Is it some kind of viscous coupling?
Hi +Ian Miles, hm, not 100% sure exactly, but I would guess it just lubes the gears...since the engine is electrical. And no worries, you will sea beautiful Karl in the upcoming videos, luckily, he will stay like that for a bit ;). Ahoy, Nike & Karl

If the shaft seal and bellows are not damaged , you may just need to give it a bit more preload
Unfortunately I burnt the seal quite a bit...:(. Could not really fix it.

Good job, not just another pretty face on a boat. A skilled one
Karl is handsome now, great job
