Unrelated a bit but, since you mentioned first play through, did you finish that final level in sky easily your first time? The volcano, flying rocks/wind, where you have to agree to complete it before being able to venture elsewhere? I’m really curious what others experiences were haha. I made it there and agreed without really fully knowing what I was doing, and got killed, then had to respawn everytime there with essentially nothing, no wings even, so I couldn’t EVER beat it. Somehow a week or two later, a person I had friended LONG before finished the game, and I guess that gave me a win there too? Or the game lets you beat that level after X number of deaths/fails? I still am not sure. I logged in, found myself dead and respawned at my body (not beginning of the level) and then it just started loading, and I got to do the whole ending in space.
My personal theory is that it actually feels like a chore because you get rewarded more directly. Like... Journey doesn't make you collect and trade anything. It only tracks and mirrors your progress. All you constantly feel is the immediate feedback of becoming more senior and experienced. But Sky frames more of its tasks as something to do for a reward, which you can then spend on object that don't just display seniority or prestige, but also serve personal expression. So Journey puts a ladder in front of you and goes "we're gonna mark how high you got on the ladder, and you can always learn to get higher up!" While Sky says "unless you get this high on the ladder, you can't get this very individual thing yet". It feels very different.

Just in case people get the wrong idea, Sky was made by TGC after Journey. People wanted to play Journey with their friends, so TGC just made a whole new game: Sky. You can play with friends, make new friends, and customize your Sky kid a ton. They took a lot of stuff they learned from Journey and applied it to Sky
sky can be installed on android, the game came out on this platform almost a year ago. if you can’t find a game in the play market or download it, then your phone doesn’t support it.
Journey's movement and the wave of the cape, and the walking of the character, it looks so calm and oddly satisfying to me. As a sky player, i can't take my eyes from Journey and its just pull me to the calmness.

When TGC announced Sky, I expected references to their other games, but I didnt expect this many. I noticed a large amount of comparisons of Journey and Sky. Here we go!: Both characters can fly Both characters can call Both characters meditate at the end of every realm Both characters collect light power in some way Both characters have a cape or cloak of some sort Both games involve journeying to a large "thing" in the distance The entrance to Prairie, from Isle, is shaped extremely similarly to the mountain in Journey There are 7 realms in both games Vault is extremely similar to the second-to-last realm of Journey Both games have mantas, jellyfish, and whales Krill and Guardians have the exact same mechanics Both games involve rebirth and represent the story of life Both games have 6 elder-like beings Whoo!! That's a lot. My theory is, Journey is the past world of Sky, while Sky is the future. Either that or TGC just...likes making references to other games. Extra bonus reference: In the area by the 8 player door, there is a flower which blooms when you get close. This is a direct easter egg to TGC's other game, Flower. ADDITION I THOUGHT OF AFTERWARDS (SPOILER ALERT!!!): When you fly up to Orbit, the tunnel with the windows that you go through before ascending is most definitely a nudge to the hallway you encounter while skating in Journey. They both go in the same direction and have large windows along the side, and have a beautiful view.
About your theory, it actually couldn't match well: how did a world of deserts and sand turn into a world where you find clouds? How did the red cloth transform into light and fire? How did all of the sudden all the people who died came back to life or how was there so many sky kids created?
Hardly possible the devs will make it happen. Though, in the Season of Dreams, the Peeking Postman's capelooks like Journey : it's red and the stars aligned on the scarf instead of the cape.
It was actually in Light Awaits (sky early beta) for certain people?? Nobody except the devs actually knew how to get it. They removed it because Sony owns the rights to Journey.
Journey was one of my favorite games growing up. Ever since I was 7 years old, me, my siblings and my cousins would all watch my older brother play Journey every single year, from start to finish. Journey was such a beautiful game that was told mostly without words and it was so beautiful that a game could convert such a story without using words. When I found out about Sky last year, I was ecstatic. I cannot wait for Sky’s release on switch so I can share it with my family even more!

@@momo_mochii I perceive it differently. The sky kid is just a savior coming to return the souls to their original bodies (placing the winged light on statues) and even if he has no more energy, he is the one who forgives the Prince's acts in the name of the Elders. The Prince became a corrupt King which was the reason of the downfall of Sky. Despite that, the Sky child still help the Prince stand up and free from his guilt by hugging him. By doing so, he and the other Sky kids who died in Eden return to the stars. The Sky kid is actually stonger than the Traveler in my opinion. The Sky kid still got up on his feet when he is weak to help others while the Traveler is helped by the Elders to get up.

They watched my entire journey and were with me throughout. Sky just doesn't get that deep. I do love Sky though.
@@rachelgonzalez8051 I haven't played Journey (I don't have money let alone a bank account), but Sky is something rather touching to me and this is only my opinion. I watched people playing Journey and maybe it's because I didn't feel it, but I don't feel like being watched. I felt like everything looks normal, just like how I see in the last cutscene where we see all the elders gathered and watching our journey before embarking to Eden. My thoery is that in Journey, the mission of the Traveler is to reach the highest point of the mountain, return where they originally belong and then reforming this cycle from birth to death and death to birth. The ancestors are watching from above to see your efforts through the Journey and help you in the end. On the other hand, the sky child, to me, is like a savior who, by collecting the winged lights, is collecting the souls of the lost ones and return them to the stoned sky children who died there. The sky chiild id one to sacrifice for the greater good. In the end, the sky child helps the light child, although the sky child had no more power and even hugs him. Seeing the act of the sky child, the light child gives his light to the sky child who then restored its power. That is what had touched me more. On Sky, it is true that we are independant, but the warmth I feel also comes from the seasons in Sky and meeting new people with whom I chat with. I enjoyed my journey on Sky somuch that I was pratically addicted to it. You can have another opinion from me, but that's I think of from the two games.
@@meatballsyrup2747 Yes they are two different worlds of games. Tehy are made by the same company, but they are different. Is this confirmed? It makes sense, but I like to imagine their universes are spiritually connected somehow. There are similar themes, elders showing knowledge to the young, exploring ruined civilizations, evasion from malicious flying entities and above all else that magical feeling of vastness and beauty.
@@dihydrogenmonoxide7600 no it’s not confirmed. I played both and it’s quite obvious it’s the same universe, only sky’s lore is a bit more worked on. Even the cave paintings in both games are identical. They tell the same story.
"Sky" is a soulless clone of "Journey" that abuses the special thing about "Journey" - that strangers meet and experience a hero's journey together - to exploit children in the hope that they will put real money into the game for "magical moments", moments that were free in "Journey". The true - spiritual - successors to "Journey" are "Abzu" and "The Pathless" by former employees of the "Journey" team who wanted nothing to do with "Sky".
I think Journey was really heavy on ambiance with its design, and the feeling of solitude and quietness is very strong and oppressing . It's you, traveling the desolated ruins of what once was alive and grand, and I think the atmosphere is waaaay darker than in Sky. The character models also have a more mature feel to then that Sky completely opposed for its "Sky kid" thematic. Both are great, but with this comment what I mean to say is that I prefer Journey if we're talking about the more "cinematic" aspects, per say. But Sky completely blows away Journey in terms of controls, I love flying in Sky XD but in Journey it was stressing me out a bit :')
Part of what made Journey so special was that I and many others bought it thinking it was a single-player experience, and then being blown away when we realized those NPCs weren't actually NPCs. And it being just you and one other max made it really personal and beautiful. Sky has it's own charm, and Eden and Orbit blew Journey away IMO. But Journey will always hold a special place in my heart because of how pure it is. Sky, although totally fair to F2P, does use some predatory tactics that taint the purity of the experience (hiding cost of items, intentionally making it hard to plan what you want to spend your hearts and candles on, FOMO, etc). This is nothing compared to some gatchas, mind you. But it is there. But I mean seriously, as a business move, Sky is pretty damn genius overall, and it still does feel like the spiritual successor to Journey despite the small amount of predatory tactics that just come with the territory of making the game free.
Oh my god. Although I never played Journey before. But the game looks very good and similiar like the Sky. Of course cause they're both from TGC. Journey will forever be the original and better MVP. Yeah the ending of Sky was beautiful but it didn't hit the way Journey did. Both games are just as beautiful, i just love Journey more because the lack of communication is what made the game interesting. Sky DOES succeed at the customization but that's it. yknow, when I first played the first sky release, i really felt my soul in peace. As a moth back then, when i saw everything, it looked so relaxing, especially the guides makes me feel nostalgic... As a veteran in sky now, i miss every single memory back when i was a moth, and now.. i think sky is rather a funny game and friendly game, but in my memory, it just won't come off. the graphics probably was the reason why it was so relaxing and nostalgic for the first time playing sky💀💀
My first time in Sky was similar, I made it all the way to that sunken ship/dark beach area with those evil crab things before even realizing that you COULD take damage haha. When I replayed previous zones (after realizing I had to in order to free more of those souls), I then discovered that in the forest area (second zone I think?) the cold rain damaged you too, and you had to get to a candle to refill. Somehow I just sort of flew and frolicked my initial play through without taking enough damage to ever notice it happening hahah. Once I realized that, it wasn’t less fun but definitely stopped me from just flying around and being visually stunned as now I knew there were stakes hehe
Unlike sky, Journey never changes or has seasons. You can play it multiple times but it will always be the same. The only cosmetic change you can make is your outfit, which can turn white.
Journeys story and gameplay remains the same whatsoever but there's some achievements you can grind for and then also you can change your scarf and stuff too, the more times you finish the game the more patterns your scarf has :) but apart from that, it's nothing more complicated but it for sure is fun no matter how much you play it
Unlike Journey, Sky is ever-expanding with Seasonal passes That last every 70 Days with a 3-week gap between seasons. In each season, you have a new area in a realm to explore, new quest to complete, new emotes, and of course, new cosmetics.
I havent watched nor played Journey, but I find it much more breathtaking while for Sky it was similar to Journey but in a way, you get to experience more into the world of Sky. Journey is the type of game that sends a message to the players about Life while Sky is similar except you get the chance to interact with other players and even chat with them, as well as it being more updated with new seasons and events ✨ Either way, both games are well done even tho for all the bugs and server pains I have to endure in Sky
But you still have a chance to bring the Sky kingdom back in its original state. In Sky you also have emotes gained by looking through spirits' memories which talk about Sky. Sky and Journey are similar but also very different if you compare lores. Sky's lore is like watching an action movie.
I don't like how Journey kinda looks so much better than sky and fits the art style more.. ik they made by the same company but sky just kinda feels like a knockoff...
THAT! that was the game I heard of first. I didn't remember the name after sky became so popular. They seemed like the same game to me from the start. I didn't realize it was the same creators
I love going back to this video and just look at all the lore theorys people have about sky and journey. Only these games make me really invested into lore
I used to challenge myself to save the little papers from the guardians on Journey and I tried to save the manta when I was a moff in Sky because I thought it would be the same :'D and it didn't finish well
A fantastic theory would be that Journey was before Sky Children, where in Journey we see an ancestor since Sky´s story talks about us being a new generation, I thimk it would be epic!!
(MIGHT BE SPOILER) in sky, there is a secret unused constellation menu out of bounds called "Star field memorial", and as far as i know there is an area in journey called Star field too, so it might mean that a crossover is coming.
When you play both games, Journey first, you can really appreciate sky more playing for the first time. I believe Journey takes place in a post apocalyptic future. I also believe that the traveler in Journey is a monk, or Spiritual type person. It looks like religious garments for them, as their culture is very spiritual... It's sad to see how their world ends up in the future. Very sad. At some point in this universe, there was a civil war that destroyed everything.
I remember hearing someone say that sky is the culmination of everything thatgamecompany has done in the past. The inspirations from journey are obvious. One of their other games, flower features green, rolling hills, and an emphasis on natural beauty. Even their first game, flow, has a similar kind of collection system, where the longer you play and survive, the bigger you become, not unlike the winged light in sky. Seriously, this game easily makes it into my top 5, it's nothing short of therapeutic.
Sky and journey is just the same but in a different realm and belief, look at it like greek methos and norse methos. I think they are in the same universe but how they interconnect is blurry for me maybe there will be a "SEASON OF JOURNEY" in SKY. But that wont make sense because the spirit in journey isnt lost. Maybe help the journey spirit to... uhmm... go to journey? Bruh why am i even trying. Nice comparison tho i rate this spirit/10.

Yess, I wish both games had more content, because I remember finishing all Sky content in a few days (I'm not very interested in the social aspect, neither in buying things lol) and Journey took me like 2 hours. Really a shame
Honestly the ascent in journey looks so much faster than in sky like it takes so long to complete Eden just because of orbit
Like lord of the rings.... too many endings 😩😩😩
the more spirit you unlocked, the more friends you got, the longer the orbit is, so you can say you have no friend in journey, its a lonely journey.

Wow,thanks! I didn’t know that.

Whats the full name of the journey game ?
sky can be installed on android, the game came out on this platform almost a year ago. if you can’t find a game in the play market or download it, then your phone doesn’t support it.
Journey's movement and the wave of the cape, and the walking of the character, it looks so calm and oddly satisfying to me. As a sky player, i can't take my eyes from Journey and its just pull me to the calmness.
Sky more like kid movement and journey's movement more like adult

Journey is only on ios
When TGC announced Sky, I expected references to their other games, but I didnt expect this many. I noticed a large amount of comparisons of Journey and Sky.
Here we go!:
Both characters can fly
Both characters can call
Both characters meditate at the end of every realm
Both characters collect light power in some way
Both characters have a cape or cloak of some sort
Both games involve journeying to a large "thing" in the distance
The entrance to Prairie, from Isle, is shaped extremely similarly to the mountain in Journey
There are 7 realms in both games
Vault is extremely similar to the second-to-last realm of Journey
Both games have mantas, jellyfish, and whales
Krill and Guardians have the exact same mechanics
Both games involve rebirth and represent the story of life
Both games have 6 elder-like beings
Whoo!!
ADDITION I THOUGHT OF AFTERWARDS (SPOILER ALERT!!!):
When you fly up to Orbit, the tunnel with the windows that you go through before ascending is most definitely a nudge to the hallway you encounter while skating in Journey. They both go in the same direction and have large windows along the side, and have a beautiful view.
To correct you, there are 7 realms in both games
About your theory, it actually couldn't match well: how did a world of deserts and sand turn into a world where you find clouds? How did the red cloth transform into light and fire? How did all of the sudden all the people who died came back to life or how was there so many sky kids created?
@@yukishiro3287 Hmm...well, who knows!

Journey was one of my favorite games growing up. Ever since I was 7 years old, me, my siblings and my cousins would all watch my older brother play Journey every single year, from start to finish.

@@yukishiro3287 I actually like the way that is in Journey better. It felt more spiritual to me, like I was being protected and loved by higher beings. In Sky I kinda feel like I've been abandoned and the only comfort I get is when I find another abandoned kid sitting in the dark. In Journey I felt so much more spiritually guided and comforted.

I mean, sky is the prologe of journey so
Please, remember that Sky and Journey are completely *separate universes*
you sure?
Ok then
Is this confirmed? It makes sense, but I like to imagine their universes are spiritually connected somehow. There are similar themes, elders showing knowledge to the young, exploring ruined civilizations, evasion from malicious flying entities and above all else that magical feeling of vastness and beauty.
hmmm,both game are similarity tho-
@@dihydrogenmonoxide7600 no it’s not confirmed.
I love journey, but I honestly prefer sky
They’re both great games tho
And Im very love it when u put the "flight" song for the video. It makes the video even more beautiful and heartwarming. I sometimes almost crying cause the song. And because of you putting both game and showing the scene I can't hold back my tears.
Thank you for the video.

I just want to say something please, I’m a little bit disappointed about Sky, I thought it will be like journey, something will go deep in thinking but no, I can’t get the stress relive and the journey like the game journey, I still play journey, really I considerate like a therapy, so will all respect to Sky it didn’t reach that much, I wish they do another game like journey again!!
Two completely different games, If both are similar, if the other doesn't meet your expectations then it doesn't mean it's not good, if the expectations didn't exist then it would have been a great game for you
Sometimes it makes sense to me that the person on the journey is the mother/father of the sky children, it cant be just me ;-;

Journey will forever be the original and better MVP. Yeah the ending of Sky was beautiful but it didn't hit the way Journey did. Both games are just as beautiful, i just love Journey more because the lack of communication is what made the game interesting. Sky DOES succeed at the customization but that's it. The death hits different in Journey. It wasn't as emotional in Sky. And the ending to Journey just felt more powerful compared to Sky where you just fly into "heaven" and are reborn. Eh. I don't hate Sky. I love the game. If i had to choose, I'd pick Journey.
Sky was just alright imo. I dont know, Journey just hit different. It felt more spiritual and sentimental, especially the bond you feel with your fellow traveler/s- and finally crossing over into the light together 😭 it gave soulmate feels.
Dam journey’s eden looks like heaven and damn it even has the do doot sound when u touch your character damn they look like they were brothers like terraria and minecraft

A timeless masterpiece to be honest!
is Journey a “one-time” game? or is it like Sky that never ends (there will be always new seasons to experience).

Journey is the type of game that sends a message to the players about Life while Sky is similar except you get the chance to interact with other players and even chat with them, as well as it being more updated with new seasons and events ✨
Either way, both games are well done even tho for all the bugs and server pains I have to endure in Sky
But you still have a chance to bring the Sky kingdom back in its original state. In Sky you also have emotes gained by looking through spirits' memories which talk about Sky. Sky and Journey are similar but also very different if you compare lores. Sky's lore is like watching an action movie.

I think Thatgamecompany saw how people yearned to connect to their anonymous benefactors in Journey - and that's what they built Sky upon.
I like to think that sky and journey are connected and journey characters a spirit
