There are so many stories in the news of men unaliving their families and themselves because they're having financial problems, or the wife wants to leave them. This man was failing in life and driving his family away. Instead of getting the help he needed, his answer was to inflict violence on her, and the children would have been next. I'm glad she defended herself.

A former landlord of mine did this. He was so controlling and just weird, I never liked him. Years after I left that place, his wife left him and the day their divorce finalized he had their daughters with him so he unalived both of them and himself to punish her.
It's telling that this is a trend among men. When things get hard, they really don't have the resilience to persevere, to make a new plan and execute it and instead of learning these skills, they have what amounts an extremely violent temper tantrum because they don't want anyone else to thrive if they aren't. It's just so selfish and petty. It's horrific, too, but it's the small, petty meanness of it that gets me.

And yeah, I remember in my libfem naivete thinking that misogyny was some government or policy issue, but it shows up in the smallest, most intimate places and so many men just fundamentally do not care about anyone but themselves. It's terrifying.

A lot of men have been unaliving their families. You might think "that won't happen to me" but it's better be safe than sorry. Ms. Talcot did the best thing she could.
I want black women specifically to take heed to this story. We think "love" is enough to heal people. The bible says love covers a multitude of sins....TUH
When she put together the paper trail about unpaid bills, she started being very realistic about who she was REALLY dealing with not the fabricated image of who she "loved".
She didn't pray for his healing or force herself to "stay together so her kids could have a dad" .
Her family didn't pressure her to stay or give unrealistic advice, they told her to carry pepper spray.
SHE CARRIED IT ON HER AND MADE A PLAN.
Men of all races unalive their families but I believe our community has an added layer of religious indoctrination, mistrust of police and law enforcement, and inherited pressure and shame to allow black men to be fathers. I believe this sets us up even worse to see and acknowledge red flags and act accordingly despite if that's your husband or baby daddy or not.
I'll also say it's even MORE important for "us" to start a paper trail with law enforcement when they start acting erratic because they'll be less inclined to just believe your black story if you ever have to kill someone.(Spouse, child's father.) But yea this story was chilling, her quick thinking saved her and her kids, and this one takes FAFO to a whole nother level.

@@BurbNBougiefirst of all, Hi...big fan, new subscriber!!! My guess about motive would just be that she didn't want to go down with the sinking ship he had them on. My daughter watches A LOT of true crime, so I'm always trying to see what another scenario could be. I just find it odd to go back into a room where you've stabbed someone (in fear for your life) to honor his dying wish for fruit.

Totally weird for her to go back or care. I won't speculate on that. I would just not imagine a wife doing this without something more from the investigation. That's not to say that there are no women who commit heinous crimes.
