  • Hello again everyone, more dreamcast stuff and it's Power Stone 2!
Honestly though I like power stone 2 just a little bit more because it's just loads of fun. I do agree that it doesn't feel like a fighting game much, it feels more like a party game or as I like to call it, capcom's smash bros.
The plot for the 2nd game is pretty random but the narrator and music make it really cool. A dark cloud suddenly shrouds the earth in darkness then a strange floating castle appears which traps our heroes.
The combat has been simplified for all the characters now, they all have 1 set combo and a grab. It sucks still that the grapples have been bogged down as well, you just lift up your opponents here in 2 now. However, if you're in a team then grabbing your partner from behind gives you a boost attack. 2nd gripe I have is how most of the specials have weaker damage. But to summarize it all, the combat is more on using the environment now instead of your usual 1-on-1 combat.
Each stage shows this as well since it throws you a number of items you can use at your own disposal. The environment also constantly changes depending on which stage you're in, one moment you're in an airship, then suddenly all four of heroes are fighting for umbrellas. The music is really lighthearted too, the 3rd area in the sky stage is my favorite.
The best mechanic I love about power stone 2 is being able to revive your companions. If you happen to knock someone out, you can rush to that player and revive them by offering half of your health. It can be done multiple times so long as you have enough health to offer to whoever it is you're reviving. It makes the team battles super fun, if you're in the arcade then both you and that player can work together to escape the castle!
With regards to the new content, there's now an item shop and adventure mode. Adventure mode lets you collect a variety of items and money that can be used in the item shop. The items you collect can be combined to make new weapons as well! Adventure mode is easy at first but crank it up to level 8 and it's 3 against one. It's almost impossible to do since it heavily relies on the player reaching the power stones as fast as possible. I tried it with Galuda but beating the final boss is a chore to due because again, nerfed specials.
Regardless, power stone 2 manages to stand out still. It's simple and very approachable for anyone who isn't great at fighting games. It's essentially smash in a 3d arena but more fun and fair. Highly recommend you play power stone with friends!
