Croatia Airlines Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 morning departure from ZAG (July 3, 2017)

Welcome to my first flight on a turboprop! After concluding my month-long tour of central Europe and the Balkans, it was time for me to begin the process of returning home to Toronto... with a relatively short pit stop first. This flight was the first of two on the day that would eventually have me arriving in Tel Aviv for a single day, so I could catch my return flight home, thus finishing off 5 1/2 weeks of travel. As mentioned above, this was my first-ever flight on a turboprop, as well as being my first Bombardier plane ride and first flight with Croatia Airlines. Flying Bombardier on this trip was special to me, because I had never flown on a Canadian-made airliner before, and I had just celebrated Canada Day in Croatia two days earlier (this year being the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation). I had previously celebrated the national holiday while abroad just once prior; in 2009, during a visit to Israel.
This first flight of the day was a short one; an hour-long hop to Vienna, followed by a connection to Tel Aviv (with a 4-hour layover in between). The flight itself was pretty good, though I was still surprised by how small the sides of the cabin were (despite my average height). The flight itself pushed back from the gate a couple minutes late, but transitioned seamlessly to the runway afterwards. Shortly after takeoff, the captain announced to the cabin the flight level as well as the remaining balance of our flight to the Austrian capital. On approach, we were placed in a hold prior to landing, but it didn't impact my schedule very much.
