I love it when kids totally get music. Even that "I'm Yours" meme kid from decades ago. It's awesome to see and be inspired by. I used to teach, and one of my kid students was way more technical than I. I split his course between "by the book" one day, and what he wanted to learn on the second day. He wasn't a shredder like this, but he could go in and out of a scale to suit a mood in such a way that it blew my mind as his teacher.

There's definitely some JP qualities to his playing here. If only a fraction of us would practice these, as you said, fairly basic techniques. As thoroughly as this young lad has. We'd almost certainly have an edge up, on our journey to master the instrument. I think sometimes we tend to overcomplicate things unnecessarily. But if he can already fly around like that, just by practicing relatively simple stuff. The possibilities are endless when some theory gets applied to it.

It gives me hope, every generation raises the standard, the problem has always been that so many guitarists start off wanting to be soloist, but then never advance from that, it becomes their instant gratification, but as impressive as good chops may be, composing is the end game, and a relatively small group will say to themselves, I have all these chops and nothing to play them, in my case , after 40 years of MIDI composing, solo guitar just isn’t that interesting to me anymore, or when I do a guitar part, it’s intended to be integral to the arrangement, melodic! But this young man has time to mature, and hopefully realize a few things!

I saw this kid and another very young Asian girl one night while browsing UA-cam. It made me want to pile up my collection of 200 + guitars in my yard and start a huge bonfire! When I learned guitar (self taught) back in the early 70s this style really didn't exist and I was pretty good for someone that never took lessons or could read music. In my mid to late teens people thought I was pretty good and later in my 20s I could rip on guitar and I was pretty good with the tapping after studying Van Halen but that was considered the thing. After many years of not playing and selling off my first guitar collection didn't help. I got back into when my son showed interest in the 90s. I started playing and I was bad and not playing for 12 years really made me regret not sticking with it! Of course I can hold my own for the classic rock stuff but the newer techniques sweeping etc I just can't seem to get the hang of it. These kids are so good at 5 or 6 years old imagine they will be the next guitar Gods when they can start playing in bands. I was so bad after giving it up for so long I sent my son for guitar lessons and sat in so I might learn something new. He's 36 and pretty good but he's still not there yet. I wish he would have taken it more seriously when he was 11 or 12.
This style very much DID exist in the 70s. Been around since like before the 1670s. It's called Baroque, and also Classical. It just wasn't as common or popular as it is now. 😊
Fuck it, I’m quitting the guitar! I started playing in high school back in 94’ and within about a year I was at the level of Mike McCready I would say but then everything just fucking stopped. It was so frustrating and I felt like I was just banging my head against the wall for years trying to escape my guitar purgatory. Anyone else gone through that?
I first saw 7 year old Suzuki Method violinists play with professional symphonies at least 20 years ago, but this is the first time I've seen a very young person achieve something similar on a guitar. I know what AI can do and I wondered if this was AI. But he's the real deal. Check out his channel. He has improv chops, and he has the soul of those rare young singers I've seen on The Voice. Or whatever. I really hope that his dad is in a position of power that will enable this young person to continue developing his talent. He is one in 100 million, and he deserves to spend his life doing what he was born to do.
Not to be mean, but it genuinely does sound kind of sped up. My guess as to what’s happening here: he’s doing some legitimately excellent sweeps, but he sped it up a bit because… I dunno. He’s a kid. Kids do silly things. So what? Give him 12 years, he’ll be Steve Vai 2.0 either way.
When I first saw this kid I thought “ this is AI generated, there’s no way a little kid can play like that”. After seeing more of his videos the reality is...he’s for real! Just mind blowing. Bravo young man!

A 5 year old child shredding on sweeppicking neo classical riffs on an 8 string $1000 guitar?
Seen it......
If I had a kid and he could do that, he would definitely have a guitar that was worth more than $1,000.
❤❤love Maitauo,,,I listen to him most days❤❤ Awesome Blessing to humanity ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Kid might be the fastest in the world at this point
Clean tone arpeggio sweep. First slowly. Now at speed.
