my tattoo artist posted a picture of my first tattoo ever, lately ive been having a little tattoo regret(even though everyone tells me its an awesome tattoo)i went on his instagram and saw my tattoo that he posted and fell in love with it all over again. to know that he is proud of his work makes me feel so much better at this little insecurity ive been feeling towards it.
my tattoo artist not posting a photo of mine felt…conspicuous. she always showed a lot enthusiasm for the design (she specifically took the project on because the design was something she felt a strong personal connection to…or so she told me.) throughout the session, she kept gushing about much she loved this design and how excited she was that she got to work on it. after the session, she took a load of photos and said she couldn’t wait to post photos on her instagram becaude it was her favorite piece she’d done all year. anyways, i followed her in hopes of seeing the photo. it’s been nearly 4 months now and she never posted it. she’s been consistently posting photos of other clients’ tattoos. so i’m not going to lie, my feelings are kind of hurt. like, why show so much enthusiasm for the design and tell me you’re going to post the tattoo but then never do it?
I had similar thing happen to me and he gave me a straight up answer: "it is not the style he wants to work on in the future". I totally respect that and I really don't mind, I am glad that I got a style that I absolutely love even if it's not his favourite. I just wish he might change his mind and start doing it more because he is really good at it. But I don't blame him if the thing he is good at is not making him happy. All in all without posting a picture, I am happy with my tattoo :)
Mandilinaz xx Eczema can be a bit of a challenge but it's defienitly nothing of major risk. Your biggest challenge is itching! The flare up can effect the healing slightly but the largest issue comes down to itching the flare up especially while sleeping. Since the skin is much more irrited with eczema you really need to be careful the first week. All my tattoos have healed beautiful but they were very challenging. I'd have to tie my hands together before going to bed to stop myself from damaging the skin.
wander lust I have full body psoriasis and recently got my whole inner forearm tattooed 3 -4 weeks ago. My skin has reacted really well and so far no spots have come up on the tattoo. I made sure to let my tattoo artist know well in advance about my psoriasis and make sure it was ok.
kvandersonn wow im glad its healing well for you. Did you get it while you had a flare? The tattoo artist I spoke too had no problem I just would like to talk to more people who have psoriasis and tattoos to hear their experiences. When I get a burn on my skin psoriasis would show up, but it wouldnt if I just got a cut. So its abit risky
Thank you for making this video! I have had clients get offended and ask me why I didn't post their work, it makes me feel uncomfortable and guilty. Reading some of the comments made me a little sad and frustrated. I feel sad knowing how personal clients take not posting/deleting their pics. But also a little frustrated at how personal people take it. To me it seems like there is a lack of understanding between client and artist especially pertaining to the "behind the scenes" of tattooing. I feel like some of your videos help bridge that gap. Some other reasons I don't post: Not the style I want to be doing Not the style I want to be doing Picture looks bad from blood/swelling/warping/wrapping etc I have so many to post that I just pick out my favs to avoid spamming Instagram. At that point I'm already doing new tattoos and, to me, it's no longer worth posting something I did a month ago Its album artwork or an approved friend's design (not my original work) Or I delete work if I feel it's as risk for getting copied or it no longer fits my current style Not the style I want to be doing Basically I keep my portfolio as a representation of my current concentration with a few examples of my breadth work to show versatility. I'm posting with regards to my body of work in addition to showing off the individual piece.
This has happened to me and i still feel Kind of sad about it. thought about all the reasons you mentioned, even that she might not want to do the same animal over and over again but then she´s posting other Tattoos that are similar to mine :/ i even sent her some high Quality really nice pics of my healed Tattoo once (she tends to share those as well) and she said thanks but that´s it. it´s okay for m vut sometimes i wonder if she didn´t like it
When that happened to me, I just interpreted as my tattoos not being the style of the tattoo artist in general that she wanted to sell to her followers. I did not take it personal.
I got a half sleeve done and my artist said he had fun with it and it was one of the more. Interesting pieces he's done in a while yet he never posted the picture. I'm guessing it was probably because of human error like you said.
I once had an artist delete a photo she posted of my tattoo. It was on instagram and she got 100's of likes on it, i'd say more than her average. It kinda bummed me out! Always wondered why she deleted it :( still love my tattoo tho!
+Nat Green what Carly said ⬆️ I did an elephant tattoo once and since then I get at least one email a week asking for the same thing. And now I always say no because there's only so many ways you can draw a mhendi elephant and I don't want to give a bunch of people *almost* the same tattoo
Very normal! I go through my Instagram regularly and delete older work because I my style has evolved further or to help with the overall balance of my page. A lot of people browse artist's page as a portfolio in addition to following them for all of their new work so if I have older tattoos that are in a style that is no longer my concentration then I will probably still get requests for it. It's never personal or because I don't like the tattoo.
This happened to me too. In the comments people started inquiring about booking, prices and about a similar tattoo (which isn't her "signature style") so I figured thats why she deleted it.
Amazing timing. I was just thinking about it today - I got my second tattoo last month and my tattoo artist never shared it on her Instagram. Hearing your perspective really reassured me, so thank you :)
my tattoo artist didn't upload my tattoo either, i am fine with that because maybe it's not the style she wants to show. i am happy with it and thats important :)
This might sound weird but this is my first time watching a video of you and honestly your energy field is so vibrant. I have never seen one such as yours!
Wow thanks so much I this video. My artist never posted mine and ai honestly thought it was because I have brown skin :( most of her clients have white skin and it seemed like she might not have too much experience with darker skin since we had to make a few colour adjustments. She seemed stoked about my tattoo when she did it so I did kinda take it personally when she didn’t post it.
I just got another tattoo yesterday from the same tattoo artist that did my lion tattoo. She took pictures of my tattoo with my phone but she didn't take pictures with her phone. Once she finished taking the photos she wrapped my tattoo. She liked how my tattoo turned out and I loved how it turned out but she didn't take pictures of my tattoo with her phone. Makes me feel like my tattoo wasn't good enough to be posted. Makes me feel a little insecure. I showed my friends my tattoo and they said it looks good and they really like it.
I always wondered about this too. I had an amazing anime tattoo done by a guy and it never got posted. He seemed genuinely excited to do it and it was within his realm of style (which is why I chose him). I never quite understood why he wouldn't post it up as I think it was in his top 10 tattoos for sure. It was my second tattoo I've gotten, but I didn't know about the tipping culture at the time. Do tattoo artists not post their work because their client didn't tip extra?
+Namron9797 I wouldn't have thought so! Maybe he didn't get a good photo - you could always send him a healed photo, i know I love getting healed photos :)
Yeah lame or to small. If they post a lot of small work more and more infinity symbol, feather wiggle frolicking into dove tattoos they are gonna have to do
I was wondering the same thing. My tattoo artist said she liked the tattoo and was proud of how it turned out and the photo seemed to look pretty good as well. I love it anyway, so I just posted my own picture of it when I added a review.
Not only should artist post ALL of thier work(not just thier favorite or best)they should also tag the canvas.(if wanted) 1.i want to see your WHOLE portfolio..i want to see your best and your worst. 2 i should be able to find your other clients to see healed photos and ask about there experience. 3.it costs nothing to give your client some exposure/credit. 4.tattoo cost a ton...shut up and help your client and make the experience fun.people love to see people compliment and comment on thier tattoo...believe it or not it means something.
But what if it's the other way around..? If a client doesn't want a picture of their tattoo put online. I'm going for a sleeve soon, and I don't really want to show my tattoos (old and new ones) online anymore, because I see so many copying, and I absolutely don't want my sleeve to be stolen, since I haven't seen my ideas and designs anywhere I would like it to stay something just for me.. How do you discuss something like that, because it is the artist his work and advertisement.
It's YOUR tattoo. I'm sure they do hundreds. One will not be a big deal. Just tell them you'd prefer to keep it off line. Edit: plus YOU are paying for it. Unless you get it for free, it won't be a problem.
I got a tattoo from an artist I adored and she posted my piece then later took it off her Instagram (granted it might have vanished because of Instagram algorithm). She also does cosmetic tattoos and I went to her again and got my brows done. This time she didn’t even bother to take a photo (meanwhile she took consistent photos of other women’s brow tattoos). It just made me feel ugly and like I wasn’t pretty enough for her to include on her cosmetic tattoo page. :/ just left me with a really crummy feeling.
I was tattooed a week ago and my artist posted the photo right after. I went back on his account today to check out his latest work and he deleted my tattoo photo. :( I'm feeling bummed but I know I shouldn't take it personally.
I had got a tattoo at a drop in once, the artist posted my tattoo to instagram and then deleted it some hours later. I never asked why, just assumed he changed his mind about spamming tattoos on a long day of drop ins. He also said he'd never done something like the tattoo before and I've never seen him do something similar again. So it just isn't something that represents his work or that he feels comfortable doing more of.
My artist told me as she did my last one (the one of the two she's taken a picture of) that she's awful at posting pictures of her work because she'd rather spend her time designing the art or tattooing than picking the right hashtags. :D
I went searching and searching for a tattoo artist I loved so I could always just go back to her for my tattoos. The fact that she didn't post it made me feel worried and now I'm just like... maybe that's a sign I shouldn't go back to her.
same thing happened to me. i might send her a pic when it's healed to confirm if she really didn't want to post it. is it wrong to be bummed about this?
Hey Holly! could you do a video about your experience as a female tattoo artist? Not sure if you've spoken about it before but I'm just curious what its like in such a male dominated field. thanks for your videos; they have been so helpful!
robo tiger I could see why she would be curious. Maybe there's some people that are "surprised" that a female artist tattoos just as well as a male artist. Not because of sexism or anything, but it is more common to see male artists rather than women.
Ok I can answer that for you. If you were a chick getting into tattooing before 1992 you were treated like shit. Any year after that no one cares anymore
chill y'all. all I was asking is to see what her personal experience is, not to speak for all female tattoo artists ever. I've known a lot of female artists who have or do struggle and I just wondered if she had had similar experiences.
I understand why people want to know that their artist loved doing their tattoo and think it's the greatest thing they've ever done but in reality, that isn't a reasonable expectation most of the time. If you really love your tattoo and you're totally happy with the work they did for you, it really shouldn't matter whether or not the artist posts it or even likes it.
You can tune pictures in Lightroom afterwards you know. It doesnt necessarily mean youre making it fake or giving unrealistic idea of what the tattoo actually is, but rather tuning the contrast and colors to do the exact opposite - making it look how it actually looked after you did it
Janis Kõrkjas I just started tattooing and honestly I hardly have time to post let alone spend time editing my pics so we don't always have time to edit pics when we have to getting ready for the next tattoo or getting designs drawn up for the next day 😉
My artist deleted the photo she posted of my tattoo recently, only one day after she posted it. I have no idea why. Not gonna lie, it hurts my feelings a bit, considering it was my first large piece and the photo turned out beautiful. I'm sure she has her reasons, but considering I found her on IG in the first place, it was kind of a dream of mine to see my tattoo on her page :(
I've had this question as well. I'm a little sad that my tattoo artist didn't post my tattoo. I'm not sure why. I was there for 2 hours and he took pictures and seemed like he was excited about it. But I checked his IG and he hadn't posted it. But there was another tattoo he recently that was of the same character but it was bigger and he had more free reign on what he could do with the tattoo. And he posted it to his IG as a WIP. And then posted another post today of him showing how it's going to look in color. The person was also doing color.. mine is not. So idk I was just a little sad especially after he took pictures of it.
I was the very first official appointment for my current artist - and she did something special for me at her old shop. When she posted my tatt on social media - she said that she will not do something similiar because her style evolves more in another direction although we both love it. :) And I think thats cool.
Hi, appreciate you sharing. I had 2 big pieces n a small tatt done at my local tattoo artist. I’m black mixed race. I noticed that the artist didn’t have any pics of black customers. But I just thought they didn’t have that many black customers to tattoo. But then I realised, they were having black customers, they were just not posting their tatts. So I left. My thigh piece was really beautifully done n cost me well over £200 but guess what. That was never posted. A week later I saw another thigh piece by the same artiste, this time on a white woman..guess what, it was posted. It was nowhere as nice as mine, as mine was larger n more detailed but I think I proved my point n took my business eldewhere😒
tattooist here. I'm sorry to hear how you feel, but maybe this will make you feel a bit better. As Holly is saying in the video, there are many factors to consider and its easy to jump to the conclusion that suits your hurt over not having the tattoo posted. I have tattooed very tanned white people and not posted the tattoos because the tan of the skin washes out the contrast/intensity of the tattoo, whereas in real life it looks fine. No matter how many angles/different lighting I took the photo with, I just couldn't get a good image. Maybe your artist had a similar struggle. It is unfortunate as we wish to post every good piece we do. Maybe instead of accusing your artist of being racist, straight up ask them? You can be more accusatory if they see your inquiry but ignore it, or give you a reason that makes no reasonable sense but please don't label someone a racist without evidence
I had a tattoo artist not post a picture of my tattoo. I honestly think it's because when it was barely finished it was really saturated with black ink and I was really bruised and it probably didn't make for a very good photo. It was also probably because he was an American traditional tattoo artist and the tattoo he gave me was more of a black and grey, Japanese style tattoo. Which didn't really align with his work. At first I took it real personal but now it's no big deal. I've had other tattoos by other artists posted on Instagram.
My first was designed by me and looked nothing like his own style so I wasn’t offended at all that he didn’t post it ~ I’m getting another soon which I have chosen a particular artist to tattoo a photo that I took so maybe she’ll post my second 😊
I've had a tattoo artist later on remove my picture. But honestly I don't really mind because it was my own base design (which she changed to fit more in her style) and thus did not show of their design skills as it should on her page. (this is also funnily enough the tattoo i'm gonna be covering up somewhere soon)
I like the honest answer. I know on so many places you want people to even see an average photo amongst friends.. Hhmmm, Facebook. They (pardon the language) cockblock your photos as if you're spamming others. Facebook has decided that they choose whom sees you most & least & I may post something that even I don't see on my time line. But the photo will be sitting in my photo albums. So basically no one sees it! I really get it may not be your idealistic wotk, or you could see it as more flash than handmade. My artist loves to set down & work with you 1 on 1 to get what you want & how you want express your tatt. He loves to post original ideas, even if he didn't think them up. If he loves the idea, even if it's not completely his style, he loves to say he sat down with his canvas & give them what they want. But there are many things he hasn't posted. Some that he honestly thinks won't show his art. Not do much of mine, but I've heard or seen a couple of his clients finish up or coming in to drop off ideas. & I draw paint & so on, so he knows I really appreciate the art. But someone came in wanting a tatt that said "AMY AMY AMY" For a dead singer? Idk, not my music? He said he'd do it, but he wouldn't post it. 😂😂😂 My artist has been flat out asked to copy my tatts. He tells them he won't. But he does leave them & I'm sure someone may have taken it to another artist to get it. Even when I love & truly want a tatt I may see, I always get as many references & ways to make it mine & not someone else's art. You seem awesome! Totally a new following for me!
So when i got my first one (and only one atm but im planning to get more) i did it at the end of January and waited for it to heal. The tattoo artist wanted to take a photo of it complete but i then came back for a touch up on some areas. Sadly i had to wait like 2 months for a 5 minute touchup, and he was apparently swamped with work and the shop was getting rebuilt etc. So he and i just forgot about taking the picture. My tattoo isn't his usual style and he didn't design it, could be a reason why the picture never happned but then again i do understand that he's a busy person.
I still am pretty bummed my tattoo(first and only one so far) didn't get posted. It was a design that I liked for many years, and showed to the artist whose style I came across and loved.I wanted that design, taken through his style. And I think he did an amazing job doing just that, taking an already drawn out tattoo (yes, it was another tattoo) and filtering it through his style. Maybe that was the reason? Not an 100% original design? Still love it though, and I just got in contact with him for my next one!
My most recent tattoo the girl didn’t even take a picture after, and she post tattoos that aren’t as cool as the one I got but idk whatever I tipped her
I've had two tattoos and neither of my artists posted them. I just kinda understood that its not the kind of tattoos they do. Especially seeing as my biggest one was designed by my partner not the artist. But thats was what I thought was the main reason for some peoples being posted.
Leah Heart choose which is more important to you, if you can find someone that is still really talented but nice and you love their work go with them, but if you want to stay with your current then maybe try to just out headphones in and not really talk so he doesn't have the chance to be rude
My tattoo artist didn’t post my photo, but she’s not up to date on her social media anyway think it’s due to how busy she is. And also it was on my forearm and it was probably hard to get a good photo cause it did kinda wrap around my arm.
I hope I'm not egotistical, when I got my 1st tattoo it was from a artist i really looked up to and saw all his tattoos on instagram and when I got a tattoo from him I was a bit disappointed he didn't post it.. might be just me but yeah.
When I got my first big tattoo my tattoo artist didn't even take a picture. i guess because I chose a design from her available ones but wanted it in black and grey, while she likes to work with color. I get it but I was still disappointed, because even if it was out of her expertise the tattoo is still bomb and I don't really get why she wouldn't even take a picture, let alone post it.
Chiara Morgan tattoo artists do tons and tons of different tattoos. My husband tattoos for a living and posts maybe ten percent of the work he does because he does so much on a daily basis. They're not going to post every single one they do. It's not wrong and shouldn't be offensive to anyone. They just deal with so many people on a regular basis that they're only going to post a small percentage of the tattoos they make.
All nice explanations, mostly focused on how pictures fail, but the truth is … 99% of time is due to artist errors. These arguments and excuses from artists are all over online but they always move fast from the most obvious one : human error. After taking a photo the artist have all the time to study what he did. And no artist will post a photo with a tattoo they have messed in a way or another. Keep in mind that those photos in portofolio are also seen by other artists online … and those are judging very harshly.
meh i have a mostly full sleeve going on, none of my artists have taken pictures of anything after my first one,, i didnt let my second artist take a pic as she was a horrible person and artist (learnt a lesson about going with someone your comfortable with), the next 2, the artist doesnt usually do what i had done and as you said only wants to promote the stuff she enjoys doing which is fair enough i guess, though i love my ink
I got a tattoo with this very social-network-active girl. She worked in a very well-known expensive place, and her tattoos looked cool. She didn't even took a picture of my tattoo, but what bothers me the most is that I don't really like the work she made on my body. I payed a lot of money anyway, but I felt kinda scamed? Bc like, idk, I trusted her and her beatiful perfect instagram feed, but she made a shitty AND expensive tattoo on me. Idk, I feel very sad about it
chicahumita that sucks feel bad for you if you ever decide to get another tattoo just know you have the rights to look at the drawing of the tattoo and how it is place on the skin to see if you like it or not before they start inking never hesitate to let them know you don't like it..it can always be reworked til it's right or changed to something else before it becomes permanent
My least satisfying tattoo experience was from an extremely popular, seasoned, and expensive artist. I've since learned to seek out lesser known/less social media savvy artists who have clean work and a style I like. I feel like they've listened to my ideas more closely and have been more open minded. Sorry to hear you're feeling bad about your tattoo.
@Jennifer M That time, we did all that. The drawing was fine, and the placement was also fine. What didn't worked was her job. The lines were like, too thick and it looks like a big black mass, you can't almost tell what it is. And as it was in my back, I couldn't see what she was doing until it was too late :/
Hey Holly I have a question, is there any way in which to not have your tattoo showcased through social media through the tattoo artists social media account? Because for me I get the fact in which it is a way to show that of the artists artistic style and to be given credit for that of there hard work but at the same time I feel for me if i were to be wanting to pay for a tattoo i would want it for myself without it being shown to the entire world, not because the work wouldn't be amazing but the fact of how i see it, is that a tattoo may have it's own meaning and story behind it and that maybe something personal to just that individual who has that tattoo, or in order to do that do you need to pay more money to the artist for not having your tattoos on social media because they could lose out on sales due to them not showing your tattoo online? By the by I'm new to your channel and I know that this is a relatively old video but while I can still ask I'll take my chances for you to hopefully see this and not be offended in any given way...sorry
My old artist (he relocated to another city...boo!) would only post tattoo's that he drew himself, if a tattoo was brought in by someone else to replicate, he wouldn't post it. Only original artwork made the web.
My first tattoo was of an Owlboar, head of a boar body of an owl and that was posted online. If yours isn't believe me it's probably a technical error it can't be much worse than mine :).
How about when tattoo artist don´t even take a photo at all? I admit it made me a bit..akward as she always took pictures of her other clients tattoos..it´s hard not to feel like she... well ..wasn´t satisfied with it? I was certainly satisfied with it so no issue there, maybe it was the style as you said in the video now that I think of it
I've been interested in getting into photography myself, and I was actually going to purchase the same body or the a5100. What lenses would you maybe recommend? And should I even bother getting the kit lens?
Hey Holly! So I'm an artist and I want to have one of my designs tattooed on me. Are tattoo artists ever against clients bringing in pre-drawn designs or anything like that? I just wanted to check before I go for it!
Amanda Wilkins hey hun I'm a tattoo apprentice. It will depend on the artist, a lot of them will do it for you all depending on the style, size and 'tattooable' quality to the drawing. They will most likely tweak it too to suit their style so try and find a tattooist who reflects your art style. Of course book in for a consult first and chat it all out :)
do you agree with tattooing people who have blood diseases such as HIV? yes or no, why? i'm curious. i've heard people be outraged about it, and some are fine. i'm curious about your opinion.
I have to constantly email tattoo artists asking them if they do tattoos on non-Whites because all of their IG photos show otherwise. Eventually I just gave up and I just go to those artists who post all skin tones and types. I shouldn't have to reach out except for designs and appointments. If they don't show photos of Blacks, then that must mean they don't want to do tattoos of Blacks and I won't give them my time or money. *shrug*
Hey. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for finding the style you would feel fit yourself. I'm planning on getting some tattoos and have no idea what style they should be.
I already have an idea of what I want to tattoo, but I'm not sure if I want it realistic, cartoonist, old school, new school etc. Also, I can't seem to find any that is a tiny bit similar. So, I don't really have a lot of inspiration...,
I was wondering your advice on finding a tattoo artist for a tattoo? I don't live in a state heavy in tattoo artists and even if I did how would I know they're the right person for the job?
i had a small tattoo done on my ankle, just linework, only abt $80. it was never posted online and i always assumed it was because of how small and simple it was. it also wrapped a lot around the ankle, hard to get one good picture.
I feel like if you get a tattoo and then you get mad that the artist didn't post it on their social media than you have a lot of ego problems. I could care less if my artist posts a picture of my tattoos on their social media. If you want a photo so bad then just take one yourself. Get the fuck over it people.
My first tattoo the tattoo artist was running late so I felt they rushed it slightly, they took photos of everyone else's tattoos on the day and posted them on Instagram, they didn't take a photo of mine which makes me think they weren't happy with it 😔
It’s so disappointing when they have you stick around and take photos in different spots and then they just don’t post it.
Exactly!
Mine didn’t even take any 😢
What does this mean?
@@Swollfish honey look at the title of the video and read my comment. Think for a second.

I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences with tattooing people who have eczema/skin conditions.
i agree !
Mandilinaz xx yes this would be brilliant. I have psoriasis and really want a tattoo but I'm worried my skin won't react well
Mandilinaz xx Eczema can be a bit of a challenge but it's defienitly nothing of major risk. Your biggest challenge is itching! The flare up can effect the healing slightly but the largest issue comes down to itching the flare up especially while sleeping. The tattoo artist I spoke too had no problem I just would like to talk to more people who have psoriasis and tattoos to hear their experiences. When I get a burn on my skin psoriasis would show up, but it wouldnt if I just got a cut. So its abit risky
My first tattoo became the tattoo artists profile picture on Instagram for months. Felt so honoured! ❤️😍
+Kiralee Hinterland
Kiralee Hinterland thats awesome dude wat was it u got done ?
Thank you for making this video! I have had clients get offended and ask me why I didn't post their work, it makes me feel uncomfortable and guilty. Reading some of the comments made me a little sad and frustrated.
I feel sad knowing how personal clients take not posting/deleting their pics. But also a little frustrated at how personal people take it. To me it seems like there is a lack of understanding between client and artist especially pertaining to the "behind the scenes" of tattooing. I feel like some of your videos help bridge that gap.
Some other reasons I don't post:
Not the style I want to be doing
Not the style I want to be doing
Picture looks bad from blood/swelling/warping/wrapping etc
I have so many to post that I just pick out my favs to avoid spamming Instagram. At that point I'm already doing new tattoos and, to me, it's no longer worth posting something I did a month ago
Its album artwork or an approved friend's design (not my original work)
Or I delete work if I feel it's as risk for getting copied or it no longer fits my current style
Not the style I want to be doing
Basically I keep my portfolio as a representation of my current concentration with a few examples of my breadth work to show versatility.
Nat Green maybe she had a lot of people asking for it or for something similar and she got tired of it?
+Nat Green what Carly said ⬆️ I did an elephant tattoo once and since then I get at least one email a week asking for the same thing. And now I always say no because there's only so many ways you can draw a mhendi elephant and I don't want to give a bunch of people *almost* the same tattoo
Nat Green this happened to me too!
+Julia Ts that's great! Glad it helped
my tattoo artist didn't upload my tattoo either, i am fine with that because maybe it's not the style she wants to show. i am happy with it and thats important :)
She's too kind 🤣😂 the artist either had bad lighting, too much shine..... or your tattoo is lame. Sorry guys 😥
Yeah lame or to small. If they post a lot of small work more and more infinity symbol, feather wiggle frolicking into dove tattoos they are gonna have to do
Makeup Art Annie literally me. I should take more for my portfolio but nah. I don't want a portfolio full of cliche or plain tattoos
I was wondering the same thing. My tattoo artist said she liked the tattoo and was proud of how it turned out and the photo seemed to look pretty good as well. I love it anyway, so I just posted my own picture of it when I added a review.
What if they sent you the photos and said they look awesome, but still don't post them?
Not only should artist post ALL of thier work(not just thier favorite or best)they should also tag the canvas.(if wanted)
1.i want to see your WHOLE portfolio..i want to see your best and your worst.
Melissa van Bergen most artist understand that so just be open and discuss it with them without getting mean or rude over it
+Melissa van Bergen can't hurt to ask!
Melissa van Bergen ask and find someone who respects your decision!
It's YOUR tattoo. I'm sure they do hundreds. One will not be a big deal. Just tell them you'd prefer to keep it off line.
Edit: plus YOU are paying for it. Unless you get it for free, it won't be a problem.
Now you've made me curious as to what you're getting
:( I'm feeling bummed but I know I shouldn't take it personally.
same happened to me literally why I googled this :'(
Doesn’t showing good work in styles that aren’t your specialty show how versatile you are as an artist though?
The fact that she didn't post it made me feel worried and now I'm just like... maybe that's a sign I shouldn't go back to her.
same thing happened to me. i might send her a pic when it's healed to confirm if she really didn't want to post it. is it wrong to be bummed about this?
happened to me, hopefully my new artist can post mine if she doesn't i'll find a new artist to see
My artist uploaded the photo then removed it 1 day later, why ? :(
Love the gem stone necklace
Hey Holly! could you do a video about your experience as a female tattoo artist? Not sure if you've spoken about it before but I'm just curious what its like in such a male dominated field. thanks for your videos; they have been so helpful!
robo tiger I could see why she would be curious. Maybe there's some people that are "surprised" that a female artist tattoos just as well as a male artist. Not because of sexism or anything, but it is more common to see male artists rather than women.
Ok I can answer that for you. If you were a chick getting into tattooing before 1992 you were treated like shit. Any year after that no one cares anymore
colin kuykendall are you a male? cuz if so you honestly don't have any idea what being a woman tattoo artist is like. because you aren't one.
Patron Saint of Fashion you wouldn't know what being a woman tattoo artist is like either, unless you're a tattoo artist. No need to attack him.
chill y'all. all I was asking is to see what her personal experience is, not to speak for all female tattoo artists ever.
I adore the rose tattoos on your neck
Deborah Chapman to be fair. I don't know if this is true and I I certianly dont condone it but it may just be the way the color looks in photos.
Yep as usual the whole world is racist
Wa wa
tattooist here.

@@EldeLDorELLEN : STOP BEING UPSET ABOUT THINGS YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE UPSET ABOUT
Tom Kenning I’m lost what you are trying to say?
I got told my skin was too dark lol
I had a tattoo artist not post a picture of my tattoo. I honestly think it's because when it was barely finished it was really saturated with black ink and I was really bruised and it probably didn't make for a very good photo. It was also probably because he was an American traditional tattoo artist and the tattoo he gave me was more of a black and grey, Japanese style tattoo. Which didn't really align with his work. At first I took it real personal but now it's no big deal. I've had other tattoos by other artists posted on Instagram.
What about taking a picture of it myself, posting it and tagging the artist?
But someone came in wanting a tatt that said
"AMY AMY AMY"
For a dead singer? Idk, not my music?
He said he'd do it, but he wouldn't post it. 😂😂😂
My artist has been flat out asked to copy my tatts.
Had this happened to me a few years ago, but watching this video answers a lot of questions. :)
Hey there, Holly! What do I do if my tattoo artist is super talented, but behaves rather rude?
Leah Heart choose which is more important to you, if you can find someone that is still really talented but nice and you love their work go with them, but if you want to stay with your current then maybe try to just out headphones in and not really talk so he doesn't have the chance to be rude
+Leah Heart poke them in the eye and run away!!
Change tattoo artist
My tattoo artist didn’t post my photo, but she’s not up to date on her social media anyway think it’s due to how busy she is. And also it was on my forearm and it was probably hard to get a good photo cause it did kinda wrap around my arm.
How egoistical of people to even think another person is even required to post photos of their tattoo.
Savannah Lee You're probably right. Still it didn't feel great :/ but yeah I don't think she had anything against me in particular
Savannah Lee you'd think at least for the purposes of hiring you'd want as many photos as possible
To be honest I would rather the artist didn't post any of my tattoo online. that's how people steal designs.
Great video Holly, I enjoyed it and as usual it was very informative, thank you :)
I'm a brat I annoyed my artist and she posted my pic.......and the pic ended up looking horrible I sent her better pictures
If yours isn't believe me it's probably a technical error it can't be much worse than mine :).
i mean i can understand the artist and the client/canvas in a way
Given I started getting tattooed in the 90s, not seeing my tattoos posted on social media doesn't feel that weird to me.
How about when tattoo artist don´t even take a photo at all? I admit it made me a bit..akward as she always took pictures of her other clients tattoos..it´s hard not to feel like she... well ..wasn´t satisfied with it? I was certainly satisfied with it so no issue there, maybe it was the style as you said in the video now that I think of it
+Holly Astral I love your DREADS!
I've been interested in getting into photography myself, and I was actually going to purchase the same body or the a5100. What lenses would you maybe recommend? And should I even bother getting the kit lens?
+Kira Quintessence I use the lense that came with it for my work photography, and collect vintage lenses for my personal photography
What if they take down your tattoo picture even if it did get tons of likes?
Thats just insecure people wen you get a tat you should feel comfortable in and not get pedantic wether your artist post the pic.
do you agree with tattooing people who have blood diseases such as HIV? yes or no, why? i'm curious. i've heard people be outraged about it, and some are fine. i'm curious about your opinion.
*shrug*
This was very helpful!
You are such an amazing person
Yes I have but I didn't ask simply cause it's rude
your tattoo is so beautiful................ the two big roses.
Hey. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for finding the style you would feel fit yourself. I'm planning on getting some tattoos and have no idea what style they should be.
+Emma Nyhus full body suit of animal shaped pop tarts
I already have an idea of what I want to tattoo, but I'm not sure if I want it realistic, cartoonist, old school, new school etc. Also, I can't seem to find any that is a tiny bit similar. So, I don't really have a lot of inspiration...,
👍
I was wondering your advice on finding a tattoo artist for a tattoo? I don't live in a state heavy in tattoo artists and even if I did how would I know they're the right person for the job?
+ToriBlueWall ask to see their healed work!
Most artists post their pictures on instagram so that's a good place to start looking.
i had a small tattoo done on my ankle, just linework, only abt $80. it was never posted online and i always assumed it was because of how small and simple it was. it also wrapped a lot around the ankle, hard to get one good picture.
Those roses are sick
I feel like if you get a tattoo and then you get mad that the artist didn't post it on their social media than you have a lot of ego problems. I could care less if my artist posts a picture of my tattoos on their social media. If you want a photo so bad then just take one yourself. Get the fuck over it people.
My tattoo artist doesn't photograph my tattoos because I bleed a lot and who wants to see a picture of a bleeding tattoo!
You’re so beautiful!
Sorry to be pedantic but the Sony a6000 is a mirrorless camera, not a DSLR.
My first tattoo the tattoo artist was running late so I felt they rushed it slightly, they took photos of everyone else's tattoos on the day and posted them on Instagram, they didn't take a photo of mine which makes me think they weren't happy with it 😔
or BC is not their original.work
I love your bindi Holly!

This is such a petty non-issue
laura tea people are so butt hurt. I appreciate the perspective though.
Some people are more sensitive than others and that’s OK. ❤️
My tattoo artist didn’t post my half sleeve but idgaf lol stop crying over bs
1 min into watching this video: nvm I'm not interested anymore
Stephanie Sanchez Good for you?
Lmao was it really necessary to comment
Wish you would wash your hair.
Edit Name and i wish people like you knew what the hell you were talking about.
