The first season was good, then the writers got sloppy. Once they found out Lucious wasn’t terminally ill they needed another hook, line, sinker... and “Juicy Mullet” pushed them over the edge. We seen Jamal’s sex life with multiple men throughout the majority of the show... he had more “girlfriends/ boyfriends” than the straight characters.
Whitney Castillo lol juicy mullet!! Lol yes you’re right he did have more than everyone else and it made it unbalanced and tilted more to gay relationships being shown more than anything and it was a big turn off for a lot of people. Great points sis✊🏽

Juicy Smolliet was not the cause of the downfall of the show. The show was going down in season 3.

Honestly people don’t realize it but Chris Rock is what REALLY began the side eye for viewers of this show! Empire’s First season success is lowkey UNMATCHED. The views for that season got higher each episode when most tv shows viewers fall slightly after the season Premier. Frank gathers character was built up in season one to be this ruthless gritty scary character and when we saw they had Chris rock playing this man people were like oh Hell Naw! Outside of that based on how big the show had gotten by season 2 all the celebrities wanted of piece of the show which is why it was so many unnecessary celebrity cameo’s which killed the authenticity
Part of the problem was all the storylines were extremely sensationalised. Everything was 100% over the top , then next episode , it was like nothing happened so i started to lose interest. When rhonda died , no one cared , so why should i care .. They didn't nurture the storylines or follow up on storylines like they should. Love cookie and luscious tho , they're characters are amazing !

She wasn't at a wedding. She was at home. All they needed to do was say that she fell down the stairs accidentally. It was at night and she heard a noise which brought her to the edge of the stairs.

Stacie Ellison When Anika pushed her down the stairs she lost her baby. Then later on in another season she and Anika were fighting on a roof, then she was pushed off and onto a car.
I think Jussie's situation really hurt the show but before that there was a few seasons ( episodes) where I was like "huh" or "what the freeze" cause it didn't make any sense it started to seem like Daniels was losing creative control because a lot of the story started to become repetitive
Lee Daniels killed off most of the CORE cast from season 1. They were some of the most solid characters now fast forward today you got support characters carrying the show and the remaining core characters (the lyons) are filling like fillers. I think the only one who has been solid since season 1 is Andre.
Stellar Beatz I love Andre, his struggles are real and I can feel his pain! He is the realest character to me in the whole series, in fact sometimes, I watch it just to see him.
What took me out of the show was the fact that it felt like they didn't know what they wanted the characters to be. Look at Hakeem, his character growth from season 1 to season 2 was great, then they undid it and made him the same irresponsible dude. Also the story went off rhe rails
Everything was good at first but it just became tasteless drama. Music quality dropped. You never saw progress or the story really leave it’s location. By the last season it was completely a mockery. Plus no real chemistry between the brothers. Cookie was annoying by the end.
I agree I think that if they didn’t bring all of the gay stuff in the show and this Jussie smollett thing would of never happened I think the show would of been renewed for more than 6 seasons but to be honest when Empire goes off for good imma miss it.

I’m agree with some and disagree with some. I feel the gay stuff aided in the show going down hill but I feel like it went down before all that was more prominent. Season 1 was a genius season but season 2 was rushed and the story wasn’t believable or interesting anymore. Like with Anika obsessed with Hakeem and even pregnant by him,Hakeem getting left at the alter, Freeda Gatts shooting Jamal at the red carpet. All of it just felt silly and seemed like lazy writing.
This show is trash.First season was watchable.2nd season was suspect.After that,this went down hill.It's just too much going on.

i don’t think you all realize empire is basically based off of the show dynasty. the writers didn’t get “sloppy” they took pieces from dynasty and put in empire even certain scenes, lucious being arrested, jamal being gay, the baby being kidnapped, cookie vs anika, cookie and lucious first season love triangle, even lucious having a love child, all from the show dynasty. you wouldve had to watched dynasty in order for empire to stay on so the audience could understand but i think since the target audience that kept on watching the show wasn’t from that era so they had no clue and thought “hmm this is sloppy writing and it doesn’t make sense” however it does and did you just gotta watch dynasty.
They need to bring Empire back... if I can i wish I can write to Lee Daniels and ask him to please be it back..
I disagree on some points. Im currently rewatching all of empire. As a straight black male. I def don’t think there was an overt depiction of Gay homo sexuality. Especially during a time there was a huge influx of LGBT depictions in shows , commercials and etc. They showed plenty of sexual if not more hetero sexual things than the gay stuff. Look at all the hook up’s amongst Cookie, Lucious, Anika, Hakeem, and Andre. They had more shit than damn Jamal’s character. The shows first season was the best one period. Some other seasons came close but Season 1 is goat. Looking back from when I first watched it. The show lost majority of its supporters in the 2nd season. Because it was dry assssss hellll the story was Wack this shit didn’t make sense. And it contradicted its self allllllooootttt. The show tanked seriously. That’s where it wrong the writers did not flesh anything out in season. It was boring as hell. The songs were mostly wack too. They almost lost me too but I like to stick with something once I start it. If you made it past season 2 u are in for some good shit. That’s problem number 1. Problem number 2 was they did not properly span the timeline of the plot and characters to get the best stories possible. Lucious dying was crucial to the plot. It was like Shakespeare’s King Leer. That should have lasted 1.5-2 seasons before we find out he’s not gonna die. Think of how epic that could have been. All the mischief u could have seen with that. We see characters in season 2 who are signed empire artist disappear completely for no reason. The Dubois story should have lasted half a season at most. It was over something petty won’t that good. Eddie barker stuff should have been a whole season. I don’t think it was time to kill off exhibits character just yet. I don’t think Anika should have died without another redemption/betrayal arch. And what would empire look with her in charge before she’s killed off ? Then that whole Damien Cross vs Lucious shit was interesting but fell flat. Treasure. We didn’t get to explore as an artist Devaughn. And so on. What was Anika’s whole deal anyway. What exactly did she hope to gain? We are never explained that. Hakeem acting like a 5 year old the whole show. Kingsley doesn’t try to adapt to his new life before commuting suicide. Like it didn’t do a good job of expanding concepts or when to hop the hell off of them and move on. Some people got too much screen time. Some people didn’t get enough and some like the Latina girl group and freida gats, shine and nessa, Kingsley, Anika, Falisha Reshods character. U expect me to believe somebody like falisha reshod. To be stuck in prison. No ma’am. And where was Cuba goodiings he’s character. Then we get no redemption at all for Lucious he never tries to be good at times before falling to old habits. Then white Tracy should have had some kinda of mode to try and do right then keeps getting caught being sneaky. The show lacked thorough depth.
Season 3 picked the show back up and by 4/5 it was back to that season 1 magic but still not as good as season 1.
The Jussie smollett situation did hurt the shoooooow. But regardless of the outcome even though he did lie and fabricate the shit. If it were me I still would have kept him on the show. And possibly used the incident in the show. And used that as a tool to show when black men make mistakes it up to us to teach the. How to own up to it and learn from them. And show that we don’t give up on them and so that our whole lives don’t have to be ruined by one mistake. Cause I’m the real world a black person makes a mistake he is punished for the rest of his life but if a white person does it he gets a slap on the wrist.
Another issue was the music. Jussie Smollett is on majority of the songs when his voice isn’t the best because it automatically goes into hyper active vabrato. That sounds like auto tune. And then Hakeem’s raps sometimes sounds elementary and his flow is good on certain songs.
But let me tell you Empire got some major hits I always blast. Starr does too. It’s got some bops. But it also has some flops. And yes Blake. Was far better than Hakeem who was suppose to be the Lyon. And they made Hakeem’s character act like bitch through out the show except the last few seasons

I’ve spent the last almost three weeks binge watching Empire and I truly regret watching that CRAP. Way too much of the Homosexuality and then in season 6 with the Demonic Possession of Andre by his brother Kingsley!!???????? Empire was a show that showed the public exactly how The music industry works and it’s Demonic and Oh so shady. Some of the music was good. The Tiana character was sooooo annoying. And then in season 6 the trans storyline was Wack and that thing clearly still looked like a MAN

I agree with everything you said. BTW Black women aren’t too keen on gay sex either. I think if you’re trying to promote a particular lifestyle, maybe the emphasis should have been more on romance than sex. By the time Jamal got married, most folks had already been turned off. Also, certain themes were touched on but not fully explored. Namely, committing one’s life to Christ as Andre did at one point. All the “Christian” characters were depicted as hypocrites and Christianity wasn’t dealt with in a serious or respectful way. That turned off some folks too. Another theme touched on but not given proper exploration: Mental health. This is a big issue in our community that deserved a more realistic representation. Instead it was somewhat demonized in the person of Leslie Uggams’ character. Lots of potential & missed opportunities. By the time Jussie’s real-life drama came along, it became the “nail-in-the-coffin” needed to cancel the show. Allowing for another season was a merciful decision and Lee Daniels should be grateful they gave him a chance for a proper send-off for his characters.
4 me...an added point that they went wrong with is they shouldn't have written it where the Lyons' lost Empire. I felt that the show lost point on that.

The Lion in Winter with Katherine Hepburn is what this show was based on. That was a VERY good movie. The first season was the only season I really could tolerate. As dumb as this sounds; I can tolerate gay characters but I don’t want to see two dudes getting busy!!!!! I’m a straight, white woman and after “Juicy” decided to pull the dumbest fake stunt; I was done!!!!

I wa a hige fan of the show until they brought back Lucious Lyon's dead mom. I was like... nah, I don't buy it, and then they introduced Cooki's sister or sisters or whatever, that's when they lost me completely as a viewer. The entire show should've been 3 to 4 seasons long. 5 and 6 made it excessive. I was really rooting for this show, I even had music from the show downloaded on my phone. What a downfall.. what a shame.

I agree with the reasons the show ratings dropped, yes a lot of people did like the gay scenes it got to open, but thats pasted Jessie is gone. Your telling me the other actors can't measure up to do great things, you can't fine another director to take the show to more great seasons. Because of past experiences the show has to be cancelled, that saying there is no vision for other actors or actress or directors of color.

He can continue being a good father and family man, but he do need to put his foot down with cookie. Bottom line, we like that killer, Boss lucius!!! Just like we like his ruthless son andre by his side. That's what keeps the show interesting--them 2 lyons being ruthless and fearless! 🦁👹 Hehehehe
