Im not a welder, so very possibly im talking crap...but, i wander if making a former around the port with clay or something to stop the molten ally rolling off, might save a few rods and maybe some time buildingup to the required level. Would have to be careful not to contaminate the weld surface though i suppose.
Nice dimes guys! Do you think placing the head in an oven would be any good for preheating it? People temper knives after hardening them in a forge in an ordinary oven. It would give you an indication of temperature too. I know it is too late now, but.....
Got a link for that foot pedal or is it just a generic one. That’s the same Rohr tig I have and it defo needs a pedal when I’m doing aluminium. 👍 Another great vid.

It would, but likely the head would cool between my house and the unit 🤣
