    you can get a metal pipe and put threads in it. i don't think it would be to difficult or expensive to do.

      Absolutely. That was one of my ideas. However, its not as easy to get pipe with the right requirements for external threading. Tubing does exist as you can get 3/8" OD, which is what you want. However finding heavy enough wall to accept threads is tough. I did find 3/8" .065" wall tubing on amazon. But that would still be a little sketchy. Not to mention you would have to have a die to cut it, and actually cut it. In the end, the 1/8" NPT lamp nipples are WAY less headache than that. For me, the custom stand offs were just an evolution of my idea. And I only had them made because my machinist just said "why dont I just make them for you out of stainless?" haha. How could I say no?

    Nice job. Fortunately the stems on my 85 nighthawk are metal. The entire assemblies are plentiful on eBay.
