- Today, we say goodbye to the anglers who made history with us over the past week, with 179 marlin released in just six days, obliterating our previous record of 131 Marlin. It wasn’t just a week of fishing-it was a week that legends are made of.
From the efforts of seasoned captains to the persistence and skill of anglers aboard our fleet, every aspect of this achievement was extraordinary. We witnessed 33 marlin released in a single day, multiple Grand Slams (including solo, boat, and even a Super Grand Slam), and unforgettable moments etched into the stories of those we were privileged to host this week.
Notable highlights include:
🎯 James Gagneaux III: 2 Grand Slams aboard South Africa with Capt. Lorenzo.
🎯 Todd & Scott Robichaux: A boat Grand Slam aboard Darien with Capt. Walter-Todd also achieved a solo Grand Slam!
🎯 John Wilson III: 2 Grand Slams aboard England with Capt. Luis.
🎯 Nathan, Dan & Rich Swanson: A boat Grand Slam aboard Texas with Capt. Ermel.
🎯 Gary Hager & Wayne Fleischhacker: Grand Slam aboard Pollyanna with Capt. Adolfo.
🎯 Erin & Kasey Koballa: Boat Grand Slam aboard Panama with Capt. Mario.
As our CEO Ursula Marais reflects: This is a record that will stand tall in our 62-year legacy. The efforts of our crew and anglers and the spirit of adventure we share made this achievement truly special. The real celebration is in the incredible display of abundance from our fishery, testament to the importance of keeping conservation a key focus in sportfishing. This week, the ocean gifted us something unforgettable, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
Tropic Star Lodge is more than a lodge-it’s a living history of angling greatness. For over six decades, we’ve been home to the stories of anglers chasing the catch of a lifetime. This record week stands as a testament to the power of the ocean, the thrill of the fight, and the importance of preserving these waters for future generations.
