Quite a nice looking little set-up. I'm a little baffled as to why they are still called teardrop campers when their shape bears no similarity to a teardrop. I'm also unsure about having so much of the bulk of the unit being taken up with just a bed but I'm sure it would suit many people. Thanks for the vid

Modern construction probably lends itself more towards the square shape and sharp corners, hence the "square drop". It is also better use of space for useful storage cabinets. Originally I was going to build a tear drop style camper, but as I look into it more the square drop is making more sense. There's no doubt this design owes it's existence to the tear drop designs from nearly eighty years ago, so many people use the term "tear drop" to include both types.
These little trailers are more about camping and living in the outdoors. As such, if you think about camping, the main problems around that are having somewhere dry and warm to sleep, and to also have a way to carry, store and organise what you need. Everything else is really no problem even if the weather conditions are not perfect.
Also look at the price difference. Under 750Kg you don't even need brakes and the requirements for the chassis and running gear are much lower, and most of these will be under 500 Kg. Something like this is about one tenth the price of a new family caravan. If you are willing to do the work yourself and build your own custom design it's even less that, and this also comes full circle back to the original reason for the "tear drop" camper to exist in the first place. Of course it means that you have to build up your own camp kitchen rather than having something built in (though that's an option for some designs) but most van owners prefer to run a camp kitchen outside rather than use the inside facilities anyway so...
For a single person or even a couple, these are a great low cost option, especially considering how much of a bad investment larger vans and RV's usually are. Probably not for everyone.

Hi Rob, is 15k a fair price for that over there for a mostly aus built trailer?

Hey mate. It is quite reasonable yes. The Trailers we used to sell started around $30k so not bad.
