@@redvelvetraine this is actually a myth. Many of the ingredients in pomades and powders were natural insect repellants, and the pomade and powder helped keep the hair clean and easy to work with. If you clean the lard and tallow properly then it won’t go rancid
Many women did their hair every day, especially lower and middle classes. Upper class ladies would have their hair redone less frequently because they could afford to sit around and not budge their hair, but even if a lady were to only get her hairdo redone every few days or week (not every few months as the hair had to have pomade and powder reapplied to keep it clean), you would still redo parts of the hairdo as they fell out and became unruly. Beyond that, there were certain hairstyles that were fashionable for day wear and evening wear, fashions for hairstyles changed constantly, and even beyond that I’m sure many women wanted a new hairstyle more often than that. And when this is the style you do all the time it’s not as difficult.
@@Callmeapollo1 Yes! i actually went down an internet rabbithole and did some of these styles on my own hair with pomade and powder for a historical costume i made.
When I was in high school many of my blonde friends would use baby powder to make their hair look more blonde. Devins hair looked good after the powder and I love how romantic Kristen’s hair turned out!
So funny! We love it! well done! It is indeed difficult to do on yourself and if your hair is not the right length. Considering the challenges you guys did a great job! Thank you 💓💓💓
I love that Freddie is in a sports bra at some point - that alone says so much about the struggle of doing ones hair sometimes, that it can require a sports bra!
Kristin’s hair is so pretty straight you should try different hairstyles for a week because you always curl it I want to see you with like a half up or ponytail
I just wanna put out in the universe that there is nothing else on UA-cam that makes me feel so happy like LadyLike does. I can’t watch these amazing women messing around and having fun without smiling and I appreciate every video
...as a (historical costuming) theatre student, I had to dress a lady's hair every night into a pompadour style like this... I ended up using a crimping iron, lots of spray and backcombing to get body into the hair, and then separating and finger rolling each barrel curl. one night I hid a small toy dinosaur inside her hair. It worked the best with two days' worth of spray (she just sort of brushed it out and didn't wash it between shows.) This. Is. Epic.
Loepsie did a vid where she tried following an 18th century hair tutorial and I love how the progression is p much the same from like "ok I'm nervous" to "uhhhhhh I think I'm gonna cheat for this part"
I am LIVING for Freddie's reactions in this video! When she looks at the pictures in the book and then at the camera: that huge, beautiful, knowing smile is just so much!! 😂😍❤️
LMFAOO the fact that Devin pulled out one of thoe reusable hospital cups is literally SOO ME AND MY MOM LMFAOOO. My mom has Sickle Cell disease and I have the trait so shes in the hospital a lot so we ALWAYS some how have one of them around 😂😂
I like to imagine that, between the edit of Freddie taking off her jacket, that doing Kristins hair was such an event she had to change in to comfortable sportswear and had to put her hair up. Like if she turned up in a completely different outfit beforehand x
Devin should have her hair slicked more often.. she looks amazing!
Looks like Scajo With short hair
Reminded me of Jamie Lee Curtis in the movie "True Lies"
So true. She looks adorable that way!
She definitely has the face for it! It looked so good!
She looked like loki
Freddie's laugh at 10:05 just made my whole week
She's got such a lovely infectious laugh
It's ringing in my ears, I love itttt
I laughed with her , at the same time ....
Same dude!
Not in a bad way, but her laugh reminds me of Cruella De'Vil.
Kristin looks like an Italian Grandma who hates Olive Garden 🤣
no one's gonna talk about freddies abs? Jesus Christ
I KNOW RIGHT?!
@@philcerda645 yeah, i almost spat my drink when i saw that
literally about to write this, but you beat me to it!!
when she laughs, holy crap
vinxens manta where can I see her abs??
Exactly!
No hate no shade, kristen looks like the fairy godmother from..... Any movie
Mrs Claus? Martha Washington?
Shrek
This actually made me laugh out loud
Yumine Dream yeah she kinda do a really really sweet one
Yas she does.
Devin would look nice with platinum blonde hair.
Wonho FlowerBoy Brad Mondo should do the ladies hair!
Agreed
Wait......... isn’t that what she has?
@@yuliacherednikov9903 I think platinum blonde is lighter, like almost whiteish blonde. and her hair is also darker at the top.

"You don't look OLD, but you don't look...correct."
"You look asbestosy."
That was really sweet of Freddie to help. They definitely needed the extra pair of hands!!
the real question is: how much shampoo did it take to get all of that out of y'alls hair?!
There are specific ways you get pomade and powder out of hair, they go over them in the book
literally obsessed with Freddie. Would love more vids about HER hair. It's so much longer than it was when I first started watching
Kristin:WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?
Devin:FoR fUnSiEs!
Kristin: "We're going to be here for HOURS!"
THIS is why they only did their hair once every few MONTHS.

How is Freddie so beautiful? Like, she’s perfect. Her smile, her face shape, her hair, everything about her is so gorgeous

“Why do you hate me?!”
“Why do *I* hate me?!”

Freddie’s skin and hair routine PLEASE😫
Workout routine too... I know you saw those abs
Lizzie Morrison your picture matches with your comment
Devin with platinum hair is A LOOK, also Freddie's laugh made my day, loving this video
Total respect for the ladies who lived in the 18th century!
For real!! 💖
Lonely Butterfly back then women had hairstylists that would go to their house about once a month and do this for them
freddie really topped this video off thank you freddie
Freddie had to work so hard she had to take her jacket off 😂
Also this is hilarious!
Dose anyone think Devin looks exactly like a older version of Sabrina the teenage witch on Netflix 🤷♀️..... nope just me... ok 😂
So funny! We love it! well done! It is indeed difficult to do on yourself and if your hair is not the right length. Considering the challenges you guys did a great job! Thank you 💓💓💓
100 th like!
Marie Antoinette i swear you hide snack and sweets inside that hair Jesus
Knowing Kristen's hair journey to wash the pomade and cornstarch out really adds a whole other level of appreciation for this.
kristen looks exactly like robin williams as mrs doubtfire hahahahahahahah
Now we just need her to stick her face into some whipped cream and shout "Well hello!!" at everyone. I think I'd die from laughter like a sim. 😝
I love that Freddie is in a sports bra at some point - that alone says so much about the struggle of doing ones hair sometimes, that it can require a sports bra!
Video: *18th-century hairstyles*
Background music: *from literally every century but the 18th century*
"I was wet previously...." LMAO!
Automatically clicked the notification whilst I was watching your ‘We fostered dogs for a week’ video!!! Love your videos
FREDRICKA!!! You better be showing off that midriff more!
OMG DEVIN SHOULD TOTALLY GO PLATINUM!!!!
Makes me appreciate modern conveniences. Thanks for taking it on, K & D!
Dev: I think I'm done
Freddie: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sidenote: Shout out to those laughing ABs Freddie!
"I was wet previously..." - Kristin 2019
Get it girl.
Kristin: "Are we supposed to flat iron them too?"
Devin: *devin.exe has stopped working*
10:03
Devin: I think I’m done.
Kristin and Freddie: **good four second pause** **cackling**
*smile * You are assuming I do my hair.
devin would look so good with really really short hair like jen but i already love what her hair looks like
This is exactly why these styles were typically reserved for the aristocracy. You needed a team of hair dressers to get you from point A to point Z.
Now I really want to see them do 18th century makeup
Yay a new video to numb the sad pain of reality ✌️😅
What's the sad reality ? Did something happen ?

I feel like this was the content I signed up for when I first subscribed. Love
This was so much fun to watch...BUT I would never attempt to try it :)
They were already delirious by the time they even started doing the paper step
Chantel needs to do this! Her hair is amazing.
I love this so much! The look of despair when they realized they had to flat iron is my feeling everytime I try anything with my hair.

next video: devin and kristin spend 12 hours in the shower
Kristen looks like the fairy godmother from Shrek
The slicked back hair makes Devin look like a young Leonardo DiCaprio 🤤
Next video?: “we’re taking 24 hour showers!”
Kristin shouting « Put your hands on me Jack » killed me hahahahah
Honestly, how the heck does Devin look amazing with any hairstyle? Im super jelly right now.
The clothes would have made it more fun (and real) but glad to see it.
Um. The shot of Devin in the mirror at 9:13 ?? Be still my heart. She is SO gorgeous!
Please make this a series! I would love to see more old and some 'futuristic' hairstyles too!
😮😮😮😮 So excited by this convergence of Ladylike and my historical fashion obsession! Lauren and Abby are amazing!
I’m just hoping that there is hidden immortals out there watching this and laughing your bums off 😂

Their bright red lipstick goes so well with the style !
Can we just take a moment to enjoy Freddie’s ABS!!!

Kristen’s glasses really pulled the look together. My gosh that fantastic...
Devin and Christian did this once but women back in the day did this EVERY SINGLE DAY!
I would love for Devin to have a story time about her time with Harry Potter Musical.

Freddie's belly laugh when Devon said she was done
I love them. with all these complaints if they were African American they would never survive on wash day.
I love how they got Freddie to come in and help!
