Alder Stream Canvas Pack Review and Loadout

- First time out with the pack, just testing for weight and comfort of carry. I'm impressed! Notes that I didn't mention about the pack & loadout:
I used Otter wax (the large bar) to wax the pack.
The water filter is a DIY gravity filter.
I did have a fleece blanket in the bedroll (it's Spring in Alabama)
Any questions or comments are certainly welcome.
Blessings,
Dave
Great video thanks. Nice pack. I also purchased a pack from Alder Stream and will wax it sometime in the future but no rush as I purchase the waterproof inner canvas bag insert she sells as a ad on. Both the pack and the added pack liner bag with a few extra added tie down spots were very good price for the great quality. It is very comfortable and durable and I am very happy with mine.
Great review of the backpack and your kit David, liked how you kept it all minimal too. Love the look of canvas backpacks in general ~Peace~
That is one beautiful pack. Very well made and designed. And I love my Gerber saw, too. Much lighter and easier to use for any task needing to cut something with minimal effort. The saw will cut easily if you don't force it by bearing down on it too hard. Wish I had the money have her build me one. That really is a good pack big enough for overnighters. Thanks David.
Thanks for those figures Dave. I went to Alder Streams web sight and found your pack. I'm now convinced there packs are much better made than Duluth's and Frost River. Thanks for you reply. I hope you can get away again soon. I like your videos.
Very nice pack. You have some really good gear also. Thanks for showing!
Outstanding video I have subscribed!
i sure like the alder stream line...nice pack David!...woods
Thats a beautiful pack.
Nice looking pack.
Real nice review and very helpful, David. Looks like the lashing straps add to the carrying capacity. Does the extra load lashed on the outside bottom bump against the butt when you are walking?
I didn't notice it. Actually I used it in a different configuration on a couple of section hikes over the years, the sleeping system was lashed under the lid. On a long trek, I had raw spots on my back, but it rained for two days and we were pretty much soaked from start to finish. I haven't used the pack lately, but I may get it out some more this fall/winter.
What is an Emberlit, you mentioned there in your load out? Is that a stove? You did say it was stainless. I do think you've got one heck of a nice pack there. Hope to see it soon on some outings. Its fun to see other folk's woods.
You are correct. It is a stove: www.emberlit.com/en/stainless-steelbackpackingsurvival-stovecollapsable-stove-wood-burning. Works great, although I prefer open-fire cooking, but it's not always possible / allowed. I'm itching to get out. I've taken a few trips with it. Maybe I can round up some vid for them.
Nice pack, don't the shoulder straps hurt when fully loaded? Cheers Marc
Felt fine, but this is only the first time out with it loaded. I'll have to do a longer trip, maybe an overnighter before I can be sure.
Not really. On a long trek, I had raw spots on my back, around the kidney area, but it rained for two days and we were pretty much soaked from start to finish, so I guess it would depend on how it's used. I also have a Kelty Coyote that I normally use for longer section hikes, but it can rub some hot spots too.
Is that the Expedition Pack or the Minnesota Special ?
Hi @denofearthundertheeverlast5138. It is the Expedition.
@@treenester Thank you very much sir. I just now watched it again and heard you say what bag it was, I shoulda paid more attention
Hi David did the loops that the purchased backpack straps go through on the bottom of the pack come built into the pack or did you add those Loops also thanks Simon
I had the loops added for a little extra can't remember how much.
What fry pan is that? It’s difficult to tell from the video. Thanks
It's been a while since I purchased that. It came in a set of 2. They are lightweight iron, not cast. I'll try to find out where I got them.
Edit: It looks like they are these:

It also looks like they are hard to find.
Here it is cooking the best steak I ever had on the Pinhoti trail after a long hike in the rain up a mountain:

Do you find this pack comfortable? Still like it?
I haven't used the pack in a while, but the times that I used it I was pleased with it.
What made you stop using it? Thanks!
Where did you get the bedroll straps?
Straps are civil war style I got off e-bay from seller s_comfort_mercantile - rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11400.m1842.l1181/7?euid=a48246cbf7914122a4bf3d72ab10de19&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fmyworld.ebay.com%2Fs_comfort_mercantile%3FssPageName%3DADME%3AL%3AOC%3AUS%3A1181
