- With the new Mary Poppins sequel upon us, we decided to test our motto and go looking for sins in the original. And we found some. A bunch, actually.
Next week: Something super and something seasonal.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Dominick Perez good one, well played
I heard Dick literally paid Disney to get a role in this movie, he wanted to do it so badly. That makes me appreciate his character and him as an actor soooo much
And apparently it worked out for him, as he ended up playing two characters (the other being Mr. Dawes Sr., the crotchety old geezer at the bank).
Yes! He paid to portray Mr. Dawes. And he did an excellent job!
Untrue. Disney wanted DVD to appeal to American audiences. DVD wanted to play Dawes senior, and did that for free.
Yeah I read about it in his biography
He paid to play the old man
If he paid them, did they pay him back or did he do it for free?

In retrospect, this movie is super odd but man, Julie Andrews is so damn charming.
-500,000 sins for Julie Andrews, and -600,000 sins for Dick Van Dyke!
Julie Andrews is perfection. A national treasure.

@Desolark The Feathered Apparently, she can.
Yeah she won a well deserved Oscar for the role (in a unique bit of poetic justice)
Nononononono. He got his job back because shaking hands with a chimney sweep makes you lucky. At the end of Step in Time ALL chimney sweeps shake his hand, making him the luckiest man.
I am incredibly confused by this fact.
You sir, win the internet.
A sweep is as lucky as lucky can be
Good luck will rub off when I shakes hands with you
Henrique Zen I have seen this film maybe a few dozen times (though not in 15 years) and I don't think that realization ever dawned on me. So thanks to you; shame on me.
Until he dies of black lung, NOW who's lucky?
5:02 In the older days of television, it was relatively common practice for the subtitles to condense dialogue so it could be read at a slower pace. Transcribers didn't care too much about point-for-point accuracy, since the only reason you'd have to read those captions is if you couldn't hear what the film was saying to begin with. Honestly, as long as the "meaning" of the dialogue isn't changed, I wouldn't care too much about it.
Once I was watching _Futurama_ and Amy asks Fry, "What business is it of yours?" And the captioning said, "It's none of your business." I mean, fair enough, the latter sounds more natural anyway.

Fun Fact: The penguins later appeared, once again as waiters, in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Then they went bad and helped THE PENGUIN in his assault on Gotham city.

I strongly suspect that CinemaSins have never actually had a spoonful of sugar, or if they had, they tried to snort it or something rather than let it just melt in the mouth offsetting the taste of the medicine. They also likely do not realize how many modern childrens' medicines have the proverbial 'spoonful of sugar' built in to the formulation.
ABSOLUTELY 👍
The movie isn't great despite that I love it but Julie Andrews remains biggest reason to watch it.
What if her and David Bowie had a kid? Oh no, what if you get Zoolander?
I find this incorrect because Marry Poppins is “Practically Perfect in Every Way”

You're not fooling anyone. Under 100 sins means you loved it! 🤣
Haha! That's what I tell my husband when he watches an episode with me (or just hears the DINGS since those tend to be heard anywhere in the house). Anything under 100 is good to go!

It's actually said in the bonus features of the anniversary Mary Poppins release that the song "Feed the Birds" was one of Walt Disney's favorite songs by the Sherman brothers. Richard Sherman actually recalls that Walt would come into his office and have him play this while Walt gazed out the window. If you also saw the movie Saving Mr.Banks you would know that Marry Poppins was there to save Mr.Banks and not the children.
I didn't know that. Super cool!

Google it you ignorant fool.
Here is my beef about this film. The film suggests that George Bank is a workaholic with no time for his children. So at the end of the film while flying a kite with his kids He is given a promotion? Wouldn't that job require even more time and commitment?
His promotion was from Junior Officer (probably approving loans) to Junior Partner, a managerial oversight position. He'd have far greater control over his schedule.
Maybe not, have you ever seen a store director doing work? I haven't, and that position is considered a promotion.
The best part for me is simply that he is so happy after losing his job. This feels too much like my own life xD *trashes away*
But do we really know whether he took the job? It's not revealed to my knowledge.
George working a lot though doesn’t correlate to him not spending time with his children though. Even when he’s not working in the morning and evening, he’s cold to them. His arc is not about realising he should stop working because it’s taking a toll on family time but he comes to appreciate and love his children more
Funny you should mention her saying it backwards wrong. The musical is one of my favorites and in the Broadway musical she actually says it backwards like a recording played in reverse.

Banks' song about his orderly life was meant to demonstrate A) how oblivious he was to his home (because he was working himself into an early grave providing for that wretched family) and B) how when he was there to run things up until the coming of Mary Poppins, things seemed to go smoothly because _he made them go smoothly_ when he was there. It was essentially enlightening the parents with a heavy focus on the father (because tradition / relatability) the dangers of distancing yourself from your offspring and what happens when you do.

Gotta love how many times an old Disney movie makes Jeremy say WTF?

1:33 is my favorite sin. But how does the line end!!?
I really expected Fiona making the bird explode in the outtakes when Mary sings with the bird.
Pre-watch thoughts: "How dare you sin Mary Poppins."
Post-watch thoughts: "How dare you sin Mary Poppins."
That is all.
Exactly!
Most of the "sins" were dumb. This channel is really past its prime. It used to be a lot funnier.
@saltycrunch that's not fair. I still like this channel I'm just too big a fan of Mary Poppins.
Even when I was a kid I thought this movie was lame, dull, and saccharine. So yes, sin it!
2:35 "nostalgia diaper crowd"
Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way 🐧 💖

That Monty Python reference made laugh a lot harder than I should have
Next up: Everything wrong with Hamilton in revolutionary minutes
Alexander Hamilton
My name is Alexander Hamilton and there's a million things I haven't done. But just you wait.
When he was ten, his father split,
You got a boyfriend ,but I bet he doesn't kiss ya muah
That bit when he started singing Hamilton had me laughing
Alexander Anderson
My name is Alexander Anderson
And I like killing things because it's fun
So just you pray
Just you pray
Lol the best thing about the Hamilton reference is that Lin Manuel Miranda will be in the new Mary Poppins movie
Lin Manuel Miranda sucks.
@@mr.bluependant1871 no u
I love Hamilton
Monsieur Bleu Pen okay, that needs an explanation. You can’t just say he sucks without saying why he sucks. Why do you think he sucks?
Monsieur Bleu Pen ExCUSE me? Lin is a GIFT to humanity. Win two Tonys for best musical and write two beautiful scores and also be a triple threat and then say he sucks.
I'm honestly suprised that CinemaWins has done a video for this gorgeous masterpiece of a classic film.
okay so you doing supercalifragilisticexpalidocious backwards was incredible XD
Why haven't the Ministry of Magic come and sent Mary Poppins to Azkabhan for this display? Why hasn't Voldemort killed her for interacting with Muggles?
because Poppins is god
Exactly
Mary Poppins was clearly constantly on the move so no one could track her position and Voldemort wasn't born until 1926. She probably wasn't much of a threat by the time he gained power.
so did Missy do Mary Poppins in @@KonosubaMegumeme
It would have been Grindelwald. Voldemort won't be born for another 16 years.
No sins for American Robins being in England?
You'd be excellent at cinemasins
I have a friend who has mentioned that every single time we've seen the movie.
14:47, THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR SIR
I have a folding cane that snaps into shape by a bungee cord in its core. When I pull it out of my tote bag, it assembles by itself. Just for fun when I was at Disney World, in a resort cafeteria I'd find a family and plop my bag on their table and say, "Now here's a little trick I learned from Mary Poppins..." (not quite with the accent). The looks on their faces when I pulled a four-foot straight cane from it were priceless.
