The bass skill is one of the six different instrument skills in The Sims 3, along with guitar, drums, piano, laser rhythm-a-con, and violin. The bass skill is featured in The Sims 3: Late Night expansion pack. The four instrument skills, i.e. guitar, bass, drums, and piano, are also known as band skills. These instruments essentially have the same features, such as the ability to jam, perform for tips in the subway, learn compositions, and be used for a band.
Sims can learn the bass skill by purchasing a bass instrument or by taking a class at the theater. The Shibata String Bass is one of the bass instruments available for purchase in the game and it costs $7503. Sims with the Virtuoso trait will earn more tips when playing the bass.
There are also several skill challenges associated with the bass skill. For example, the Master Bassist challenge requires Sims to learn every song awarded to them and available for purchase at the store. After learning so many songs, they receive a special Master Track. Completing any opportunities that reward Sims money will count toward the tally for Bassist Star skill challenge regardless of repeatability. Completing the skill challenge will reward Sim a random unlearned master track composition.
