- "Guitar Man"
Well, I quit my job down at the car wash,
Left my mama a goodbye note,
By sundown I'd left Kingston,
With my guitar under my coat,
I hitchhiked all the way down to Memphis,
Got a room at the YMCA,
For the next three weeks I went huntin' them nights,
Just lookin' for a place to play,
Well, I thought my pickin' would set 'em on fire,
But nobody wanted to hire a guitar man.
Well, I nearly 'bout starved to death down in Memphis,
I run outta money and luck,
So I bought me a ride down to Macon, Georgia,
On a overloaded poultry truck,
I thumbed on down to Panama City,
Started pickin' out some o' them all night bars,
Hopin' I could make myself a dollar,
Makin' music on my guitar,
I got the same old story at them all night piers,
There ain't no room around here for a guitar man
We don't need a guitar man, son
So I slept in the hobo jungles,
Roamed a thousand miles of track,
Till I found myself in Mobile Alabama,
At a club they call Big Jack's,
A little four-piece band was jammin',
So I took my guitar and I sat in,
I showed 'em what a band would sound like,
With a swingin' little guitar man.
Show 'em, son
If you ever take a trip down to the ocean,
Find yourself down around Mobile,
Make it on out to a club called Jack's,
If you got a little time to kill,
Just follow that crowd of people,
You'll wind up out on his dance floor,
Diggin' the finest little five-piece group,
Up and down the Gulf of Mexico,
Guess who's leadin' that five-piece band,
Well, wouldn't ya know, it's that swingin' little guitar man.
[The TV-special verse:]
Well, I came a long way from the carwash,
Got to where I said I'd get
Now that I'm here I know for sure
I really ain't got there yet
Think I'll start all over
Swing my guitar over my back
I'm gonna get myself back on the track
I'll never, never ever look back
I'll never be more than what I am
Wouldn't you know
I' m a swinging little Guitar man
In the original version, Jerry Reed played acoustic guitar. In remix, Jerry Reed used an electric guitar to give it a more modern sound.
Jerry was fantastic as was his friend Elvis!!!
1:10 "Show'em Son!" 😂
I love this version of the Guitar man
Elvis and Jerry rock in heaven. R.I.P.
R.I.P. to Felton Jarvis, who mixed this song for the 1981 version. It was his final mixing session, as he died of a sudden stroke at the age of 46 when the "Guitar Man" album was released.
Probably the best of the remixed Elvis songs. Still sounds excellent
If YT is great for anything, it's for allowing lost singles like this 1 new life.
Some hot gui-tar pickin' from Big Boss Man Jerry Reed, that swingin litlle guitar man hisself< ha ha!
I loved this when it came out, had the original 45rpm, and I LOVE THIS VERSION TOO! Thanks for doing this!!! love it love it love it!!! I was born in 1962 and my mother was listening to Elvis since she was a kid!!!!!

I love this version. I had the 45. With this would be released digitally
The beat versión 👏👏👏👏👏
a lot of talent on display in this under 3 minute song!
Most handsome man to ever live!
Elvis had the best beat in his version!
Heard this song on the radio last week elvis was singing it guitar man 😃🤍💚🧡😃
this song went to #28 on the pop charts in 1981!!!
Great, I didn`t knew that.I was 11 at that time.
Me too.
Where, in Britain? In the USA it was only released to country radio.
@@robsemail Not exclusively. I heard on it pop & rock radio. Also, I listened obsessively to Casey Kasem's American Top 40 so I knew it was on the charts as a result.
@@JoeVideoed I was a deejay at an FM rock station when this version was released, and the reason I knew of the song was that our sister AM country station played it. We may have played it a time or two late at night as an extra on the FM, but it never formally entered the rotation and I really don’t think we ever played it at all. Elvis was never on any playlist at that station.
However, now that I think of it, it makes sense it would be a Top 40 hit because it’s really a pop song, just this version adds a little country flavor. Because our radio stations were country and rock, not pop, I guess I just wasn’t aware it was a hit at Top 40.
Elvis Presleys last appearance on the Billboard Top 40.
This is the version I heard when I was in Memphis on the radio while at "Millington Naval Air Station" going through Helicopter school in 1981; this is by far the Best Version, did go by Elvis's home, but didn't stop, "WOW" what a line of Fans. 😎
Historico remix!! INSUPERABLE. Saludos desde Barcelona.
Thanks Antonio for sharing this song one of my favorite
Thank you, God bless you.
Espectacular
That bass!!
Did you know Jerry Reed is playing the guitar for both the 1968 & 1981 versions?
No, thanx nice to know. God bless.
Jerry Reed played on both. They called him asking how to play the guitar part like he did on his recordings, and he was fly fishing an hour outside Nashville. JR said "If you want to play it right, I'm gonna do it.
Jerry did the demo for it also
Listen to Jerry Reed's version with Tom Jones.
Sweet 😃
Larrie Londin on drums sounds great. Wish Elvis would've used him more... Ronnie Tutt was a great drummer too, Larrie just gives everything a different feel which works well with Elvis.
Thanks, shame this isn't on the streaming services. It'd make some money for the publishers.
PERFECT
Elvis Presley

Like this version better than all the others
Why isn't this version on spotify?
Maravilha
Any guitarists out there know what sound/setting/pedal Jerry Reed used to get the sound in his solo (1:11-1:34)?
I highly doubt it was anything but an MXR Dynacomp through a solid state Peavey amp. That was pretty much his go-to rig in those days. This is, however, an overdub of several guitars playing harmonized parts. There are at least three guitars and possibly more. I'm pretty sure that is the sound that you are talking about. Just layers and layers of Jerry playing a part, and another part a major third up, and another part a fifth up, etc.
If I'm correct they pitched this recording up.
This song is awesome is it from Clambake the movie?
They REALLY did just add Chorus to ALL guitar tracks in the 80's, LoL...
This is terrible compared to the original.
NO IT`S NOT
