Stan Ridgeway Born in the High Desert town of Barstow California, then down to be raised in L.A. Stole street signs and spent the night in the "tank" at 12 years old...got his first banjo at 14...Went on to form Wall of Voodoo... Truly a New Wave Western Pioneer...Songs like this prove it....🌵🔔
Gripping and haunting composition. I discovered it when my mom died and it walked right through me... the first in line will soon be the last. I come back to this. Still grabs me like a vise.
this song is how i used to wake up. i used it as an alarm. a gentle tone + beautiful guitar and chill lyrics by an exquisite singer = a great way to start the day. try it
I worked in Dalian, China in the early 00's. Used to walk to work, had a Rio "Riot" .mp3 player (20 GB) that sounded so great - put this track on every morning as my feet hit the street outside my hotel on my way to the studio, perfect beat for a good walk. Those were fantastic days (worked as a wedding photographer). Thanks for the memories Stan 🎵 🎵 🎵
Bebe Rebozo Similar experience, sadly without the peyote high... Big Sur, driving south, drop top Jeep, the Pacific to the right, a steep peak to the left, sitting atop an old Spanish mission... can see it today
I've always thought this just had to be about Timothy McVeigh. I'm sure this will trigger many people, and I'll never hear the end of thoughts about what he did, or all that led into that and out of it. I really don't care. It's really not meant as a political song, of that I am sure. It's really just about the choices we make, and their consequences. In some wider sense, I suppose it's like Eastwood's character says in "Unforgiven"-"We've all got it comin', kid." What Stan definitely has said, more generally, is that life is all about what you do with what you've got-"Do we grow, or do we explode"? (A reference to "A Raisin in the Sun"-I'm much more sure of that.)
Does anyone know how to contact Stan Ridgeway? My Father is 96 years old, We have been listening to him for about 20 years, Dad was in WW2, flew the B-17's over Germany. 29 missions. Loves his songs, please...I want so much for my Father to meet him, . Please... contact me if anyone can help make this happen. I will pay all expenses. Please....

No only one of Stan's best songs, but one of the finest songs I've ever heard.
Is it just me, or does a song become more beautiful when it’s a well kept secret? Adore this.
Movie soundtrack material.
It's called "not ran into the ground" as radio will do a popular song.

"Long, so long, it's long" - what an incredible lyric construction! This song is absolutely magical and perfectly understated.
One of the greatest underheard songs of all time

My absolute favorite song from him!
Mission bell is ringin' for you
No one 'round and nothin' to do
Memory will fly and will fall
It's something you used to write on the wall
Wrong, so wrong, we're wrong
People pass and walk a road that's
Long, so long, it's long
See you when the sun is high
Wind is wild and blowin' too fast
The first in line will soon be the last
And when you go, somebody will cite
Ground control, better cancel this flight
Wrong, so wrong, we're wrong
People pass and walk a road that's
Long, so long, it's long
See you when the sun is high
Maybe someday you'll finally reveal
Something you stole, or something you'll steal
Now everyone is pulling their load
And do they grow, or do they explode
Wrong, so wrong, we're wrong
People pass and walk a road that's
Long, so long, it's long
See you when the sun is high
Wrong, so wrong, we're wrong
People pass and walk a road that's
Long, so long, it's long
See you when the sun is high

i thought, ya that's the way it is. Amazing how surreal this song is when on the road. Ridgeway has it going on.
I used to listen to this song driving around L.A.
Serf Ally I feel like i'm there sans peyote. You painted a cool picture.
