Now I am going to break down my MREs and redo them. You always have great new ideas.
I absolutely love your homemade MRE ideas. I Put the earliest expiration from what I am packing in these on the outside of the bag. As that date nears, I move them to a frequently used cupboard for a quick 'grab & go' packed lunch. I try to make a note of which combo's are prefered the best and replenish accordingly. Thank you so much for these types of videos.
Our Search and Rescue team ( SAR) members are each required to have 6 days worth of food rations packed into a 5 gallon rectangular plastic bucket. Because Emergency SAR work is high stress the rations must be high in calories ( 3-4K per day). This can be done with each meal individually sealed in its own plastic pouch. Balance the nutrition between carbohydrates, fats, proteins, sugars...look for the densest nutrition foods. In an Emergency Situation, because of stress and exertion, you will need tons of calories to function properly. These meals should be edible without adding water, and not require cooking. Prepare for the worst case imaginable. Prepare accordingly. YOU CAN DO THIS.

this has some helpful tips. I had a young man come to my door, homeless, hadnt eaten in days, no winter boots his feet were soaking wet. I was not willing to let him in my apt, as i am a senior lady alone, and he could have been on drugs, I just didnt feel safe inviting him in...but I did give him what I could to eat. Now I have the idea to keep on hand packages that I can hand out to these homeless youth who are in my neighbourhood. food they can eat without having to cook it. anyone else have any ideas I am looking.
Precooked noodles, single servings, or rice.
Send them to a shelter... he needs food, a roof and clothes.
It may sound cold. They can help him much better than you. Start a network if the homeless problem is bad. They will be glad to help!

Hi I’m 12 years old and I can’t convince my mom to prep anything. She says there are other things she can spend money on or whatever. But she should consider that beers and cigs are not things that you should spend money on! But when I’m older and have my own money and place, I will be an awesome prepper and survival guy and will make costome mres and have supply caches buried around the country.
Most of these items are already on my grocery list regularly. Adding condiments, beverage mixes, and flatware I really all that I need to think about getting and I can begin packing and rotating these MREs. Thank you. Even though I regularly buy most of these items, backing them up so that I have an idea of how many days emergency food I have on hand will make me better organized.
Love the idea of adding those water packs to the homemade MRE. I'm going to have to get some of those. I keep some home made MREs in a go bag for when I'm hospitalized because let's face it... hospital food sucks. lol

If you keep the bags at full length and seal them at the end, you can re-use the bags after rotating out the old, saves a bit of money

Slider bags are great for older people whom have motion or grip problems with their hands. And can be found at dollar general for about $2 in 2024.
Also I recommend freezer bags as they are heavier and less prone to puncture. Been using them for years.

Wonderful ideas. I don't have typical breakfast things for breakfast. I have meals. I figure I have a full day and will need the food energy and then I have the breakfast things for my evening meal since I am just going to rest and go to bed so I don't need the calories. I like this idea and will have to make up some "MRE"S" for myself!

Meals in a jar you can put in vacuum seal bags so they are easy for transport just dehydrate the meals you want and put them in the bags instead of jars

Those are good options and combos. I included instant grits in my "MRE's" as an option to oatmeal. and included some add-ins (bacon bits, honey, and cinnamon. didn't have dehydrated butter or cheese) to gussy it up.

My problem with mre's, homemade or bought, is im always tempted to eat them, it'll be like a few days before we go to the grocery store again and im just eyeing an mre sitting in a cabinet
I've found FRHes at Army surplus stores for sale individually for $1. Just a thought for options. Also, throw some Werther's or something in the bag to keep the ol' pie hole from getting too dry.
Mashed potato and Ramen is delicious! Especially when you’ve been hiking in the woods all day..
You will need the high salt if your sweating ( if I’m wrong, someone correct me.) Great ideas.

Nice, I'm just about to do this same thing. Definitely gave me some ideas. I had someone comment on my channel the other day that you can't eat the tuna creations straight out of the bag. LOL Clearly they had never eaten a tuna creation. lol But I definitely think I'll be putting the chicken creations in my upcoming ones.

Question for you. 1st great video. 2nd i see you have microwave food like Completes meal and baked beans also. How do you reconstitute them to eat??
What I do is toss them in a pan, and heat them over a low flame, works perfectly if you are camping or for emergency purposes.

I live in the UK and we have a different range of packaged "ready to eat" products, many different to what's available in the USA..
We also have items available that date back from centuries ago, many still utilized by our military... one that comes to mind is Kendal Mint Cake.. Google it.

You're fortunate to have Kroger as an alternative, San Antonio used to have Kroger and Albertson stores but they left town decades ago because they couldn't compete well enough with HEB. So now it's just HEB, Walmart, some specialty stores, and a few and far between Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. I don't like that situation.
What about northwest fork freeze dried foods. I've tried there stuff it's really good and doesn't take much water or hot water. Warm water works too.

@@Iridium242 I haven't tried them all just the southwest chipotle stew. It comes in large Mylar bags. It tasted pretty good. Though one thing I noticed is that it reminded me of oatmeal lol but tasty. I may not have made it right though. Can find on Amazon. not many ppl have seen them. Same for tasty bites I think it's called. The Indian food that's already cooked just warm up. Those taste good and one pack of rice and one pack of entree makes easily 2 meals. Filling.

Going to have another bucket with all that in it, should be a total of 4 buckets, 3 with food (Need a breakfast one as well as another lunch and dinner one) and one with nothing but cooking supplies, paper plates, and other stuff needed, will do a video on the whole thing once that part is done

Some people still put oxygen absorbers it the jars for some added help/protection because something you might get a jar that dont seal right or its pop open a little while later so the oxygen absorbers help keep that problem from happening
@A I what I was meaning is I seen people with seal them like normal but still put an absorber in just for a little added help/protection it makes people feel better 2 have that extra help from the absorber it is ok to do that even if its not necessary
