I love your video but honestly I'm honestly an emotional person but I can never express emotion when I sing but when I try to express emotion it always seems fake
It makes me feel a lot better knowing that so many other people struggle with this. I play a ton of shows with my band and it always seems that other singers have the total performance package, while I just lack intensity and emotion. I know it has everything to do with being self-conscious and critical, so I'm working on that and hoping everything else will fall into place. Great tips!
Well atleast you made it that far so it can't be that bad or you wouldn't be on stage to begin with you only get so many tries until you know something isnt good or right. Most struggle just to get that far including myself 😒
you're not alone there thats for sure execpt I don't have a band I much rather just have it be myself and my guitar but I think the only emotion I'm best at is the sad one for some reason don't know why but ya oh then as soon as I get onto record my singing on the computer I automatically go to the safe side wish I didn't but oh well anyway hopeyou have a great day sir :)
Very helpful. I never liked absolute perfection and monotone in singing. With emotion it's more fun, but I just tend to concentrate on the notes and looking graceful rather than on the meaning of the song itself. I'll have to work on that. I subscribed too.
I started practicing a bit of voice acting, here and there, using mostly my natural voice. Once in a while, I'll make it deep and raspy, or try to talk like a little kid, if it fits the role, but for the most part it's about natural voice mastery. It's really helped me figure out how I should sound for different emotions. When I started singing and trying to learn about emotions, I looked up a bunch of stuff. One thing I heard was that Sinatra was a master of singing the lyric. I didn't really understand that at the time. When I started voice acting, that's when I grasped it, because a skit is going to sound terrible without emotion, worse than a song, since you can sing in pitch with perfect timing with no emotion and have it sound decent. In the skit, I have to look at who I am talking to, what I am talking about, then try to match the intended mood or the skit. It's helped me a lot. I don't know if others have had similar experiences.
WOW! great video I have been writing songs for a while now and sometimes it seems like the vocals are just another background effect. I have noticed that songs that are most important to me sound a lot better and that would be because I'm singing them with the emotion powering the song. Can't wait to try some of your tips. ☺ 👍
omg this was best i can't believe there came a really really big change in my covers thank you so much i don't usually comment on any video but i had to now i'm sooooooo happppy thanks again
Excellent teaching. I get it and can make changes/enhancements in the right direction. I am finding that you must record to observer the emotion you are adding.
I came here from the search bar. I was looking more into the technical detail, like how low, and how high the tune of voice usually is, or how abrupt the change of tune becomes. The volume/loudness is not a problem for me.
Hi Freya, thanks for your valuable lesson❤️. I love singing but I have difficulty expressing my emotions and that end up making the song really boring and dull. And like you said in the end, I do feel really embarrassed to put in emotion into the song. I will definitely practice your tips. Hopefully I will improve soon. I’m so glad I found your channel ❤️
for me showing feeling while singing is not about the way you do it or facial expressions and it has NOTHING to do with the voices you do while you talk. Showing feeling when you sing is something that is just born with you. you have to really really love music, and singing, and it must mean everything to you if you wanna sing emotionally and get all your feelings out. It's all about letting go and feeling free while singing
Hey Freya, thanks for your videos and tips about singing! I'm very emotional, and that's the reason why I have problems at expressing feelings when I sing. I know it sounds strange, but since I'm emotional I try to stay grounded, and since I'm not very confident, even if I sing since some years, I always concentrate on what I do, expecially when I make mistakes and instead of just feeling the songs I blame myself and I'm always very, very too much afraid. I sing in a band, we play our own songs, I write the lyrics and I actually FEEL them, but it's so hard to express what I feel because I can't give up staying grounded and concentrate on the techinque. Do you have any suggestion for me? It's really important, because my favourite singers are actually not perfect with their technique, but they do express A LOT when they sing, and that's the reason why years ago I started singing: I want to express my emotions. Thank you so much :)
OMG! Apart from the whole band stuff, I AM LITERALLY YOU! Don't feel alone, I've been singing for years and my music teacher still tells me I have no emotion or feel in my voice.
When I 'actually' sing, without external critique, oftentimes I find myself too emotional. I'm 37, and just started recently singing. When I hit the right note or it starts to get good I start to think how others may agree, and feel some connection with me/it. It's hard to make myself vulernable (ptsd/Festinger's 1957 type stuff). It makes me tear up, and I have to stop.
Thank you It's like a painting a painting.I get it now. I am part of a new band. My voice is good they say, but its the emotion they want me to work on.
My problem is I put more emotion into songs I don't relate to that much? Like it's so weird, And then songs I really really relate to I can't put any emotion into. Anyone else have this problem?
For some songs, yeah It's like you feel kinda numb already with what you relate, but those songs that you don't relate with as much, kind of sometimes maybe access more memories because maybe it's not as concrete of a thing, so you think about the topic maybe?
