A very interesting movie, with the music of those years of the 19th century, the Spanish and Mexican dances, and the new daring Waltz, that for many seemed inmoral, and after, when it was played at full speed , a frenzy. The old times in California, after de Independence of Mexico and the new Zorro types. Very good music arrangements, excellent dances, with a great dancing end.
From what I have seen of the film it looked nice , 👍 i will have to watch it all over again sometime. It has the wizard guy from wizard of oz 😊 it's like a Sunday afternoon type of film. 😃 Lots of dancing 🎶
It says Technicolor, but it looks kind of Black and White to me. Charles Collins played a fictionalized version of himself as the star of this same film 50 years later on a TV show called "The Master", which was later seen on Mystery Science Theater 3000 under the title "Master Ninja 1".

I wonder if "Married with Children" season 7 episode 18, "Peggy and the Pirates" was patterned after this movie? The title of this movie alone tells me it's a possibility. LOL, btw that episode was absolutely hilarious. (edit) But then again, maybe not, lol!
I didn't realize they had dance instructors back then. I figured they didn't have time for any dance lessons. I mean simply surviving might have been more important than dance lessons, don't you think?
Dancing teaching starts, as far as documents show, in the sixteenth century, evidence of which is the method for dancing students, Orchésographie, by Thoinot Arbeau, in Dijon, France.

Fun Fact: That episode in itself is a reference to the Milton Caniff comic strip Terry and the Pirates.

Why is it in black and white?
Because Technicolor film has lost.
Rita Hayworth has an uncredited role, can anyone spot her?
One of the girls in the first scene is Patricia Nixon.
That's not much of a war dance at 1:11:30.
