Original MK3 receiver was a stamped and folded receiver, thus the seam along the top of receiver. I have bought Sten Mk3 kits in the past and have assembled them as Mk2 kits when I worked at a Class3 SOT7 manufacturer. We were able to find the front hand guard/barrel retainer from a dealer who had some grade C parts. A few we straightened and a few we had to remanufacture the shroud and re-weld it to the shroud nut. With some tubing to fit over the receiver we reworked the mag well to work as a Mk2. Barrels were reused if in good condition, we only had to manufacture the sleeve for the barrel to fit into the Mk2 receiver. The front trunions at the time was available from CatCo so it was worth the fee of $25 for the trunion. It was well worth the conversion for the company.
Прелесть СТЭН в его простоте. Любое усовершенствование усложняет и удорожает производство. Улучшать можно до бесконечности - ты даже не заметишь когда в твоих руках вместо СТЭН окажется М-16 или Калашников.
I know it's technically harder to do, but have you considered hammer-fired conversions rather than the typical I.O. setup? I know it's been done with an AR-15 fcg and a milled out hammer pocket, but I think the issue with that is you have to put the FCG pretty far forward with a decent-length transfer bar; but the nice thing is that you could reuse the sten recoil spring.
I picked up 5 demilled Sten sets in 2005 @ 5 for $100.00 and recently purchased Indianapolis Ordnance bolt & tube parts and started a horizontal Mk-3 and a vertical Mk-2 using the original mag well with fixed ejector. I tried drilling the original Sten deadbolts to install a firing pin but was not confident in getting the firing pin protrusion right, holes ended up over-sized and too sloppy. The Mk-2 Indie semi bolt feeds the round in the chamber well after widening the barrel mouth but won't eject at all so I'm trying the welded in Mk-2 ejector and a Mk-2 mag housing with the plunger assy on my Mk-2 vertical.
The original bolts that people try and convert fail to realize that the bolts are hardened. The bolt must be annealed before reworking. One also needs a decent vertical mill and a lathe to do the job correctly.
I still don’t understand the stigma about fixed firing pin open bolt semi autos. Functionally what is the difference between releasing a firing pin and a bolt with a firing pin
The headspacing is easy. Just follow the directions supplied by IO. The main problem I had was an Out-Of-Battery detonation resulting in a pretty nasty head wound. You'll have to mess with the springs correctly.
@@proteusarmaments5720 dope, didn’t know the instructions had headspacing on it, just ordered my bolt kit yesterday, still no barrels available for quite a while.
You had a piece of brass in your forehead for two years!!?? Not worried about infection?. Do you think if it had been a side ejection port rather than top it might have missed you??
Yes I did. Just below the skin enough to feel the edges of it. I never had it professionally removed since it never got infected. I'm not sure if that would've caused any difference but it might have.
Buddy i was buyin sten kits wen there were literally 24 bucks a kit ..an at places like federal arms corp ..back in the day they were so plentiful if you bought an hk g3 or fal kit theyd tbrow in a sten kit
The tension rating on springs is the most important factor . Well done for explaining to others. People can get seriously injured. Have a awesome day
I love your work with the focus of the camera and the consistency.
I like that sten gun even used on WW2, because it's so simple, small gun, lightweight, portable and durable.
😅

Thank you for your information, I'm working on a yugo m49/57.

I would be interested to know how well the mag feeds from the bottom.
I used to have a Sten mk3 and it looked nothing like that. STILL cool though. Thanks for the video.

I like setups where the firing pin is the ejector.

nice rifle 👍👍👍
Awesome vid man, currently doing a mk3 right now, any tips for setting the headspace, or any other pitfalls you ran into?

Goood very goooood
Is sten mk3 and sten mark ll is same or both are different
What is internal diameter of sten mark ll by vernier caliper
Was there not a sten where the whole mag holder could be turned.
From the Mk 2
it could be turned but it was only for ease of storage, it couldn't be fired in that position.
Эта штука сделана из обычной водопроводной трубы? 😁
