To the guy with the smt issues, your smt fluid is prolly breaking down. You should change it fairly often if you plan on making your smt last.

"Buy with confidence" from someone who doesn't know the difference between a steptronic and a sequential manual transmission. Steptronics are automatics that allow clutchless manual sequential shifting if desired. Sequential manual transmissions are clutchless manuals that are manually shifted. MR2 Spyders are SMTs.
I just got a 2005 MR2 yesterday I came from a Audi tt this clutch less deal is making me kinda nervous lol I feel like I’m doing something wrong don’t want to mess up my transmission..

I put a knee motor in mines and later the transmission light came on and it want shift out of first but the reverse and drive works ….help

I drive a Mk1 with a 5 spd man. Ive never seen this SMT in action and it looks really good, better than i thought it would. I assume as a semi/man it has no auto option ?

so does it downshift automatically when u brake, or will u have to put lever in (-)??? just curious bcuz i really want this car. i know the newer models, not the mr2, they downshift automatically when u brake.

DaBeast it doesn’t downshift at each gear, but I will shift down to first once you come to a complete stop.
alex ruiz sorry, but to claify. So when i brake as in slowing down, i dont need to downshift? And when it comes to a complete stop it will go to 1st without having to use the S (-) to get to 1st gear? I hope this makes sense. Sorry i just cant find any instructions on google. Someone should make a video on how to drive one. Thanks

i have a 03' black one with the smt, i would rather it be a 5 speed though since the smt's have alot of issues... but i still love them.
@nizzan91 Not necessarily. An automatic car can still be as fun as a manual, although some people may disagree. Take a look at the Nissan GT-R (R35) as an example. It's automatic, but it is still a real japanese car.

I have an MR2 that has an SMT and sometimes it will shift into gear but i feel like when it is warm it wont shift, wont go into reverse, wont anything. But if i shut it off for 5 minutes it will start back up and shift no problem. Does anyone know why this might be?

@@ledgend209 I think you'd have to rebuild the transmission if it breaks or fails or completely get a new tranny. If the engine fails then I think that's when you would do an engine swap. You can also join the sypder chat community and ask questions. It's really helpful
How can you shift it tough like when do we know is time to shift up and down
By listening to it?
If you're are doing spirited driving, shift just before the limiter. Downshift when you go under 3k. If you're not driving like a madman, just shift at 4k and downshift under 1k. Idk why you would drive sequential casually but you do you

mines 6 speed manual much better in my opinion 2 seconds quicker from 0-60
