Best of luck Jase. I'm jealous! Will be very interested in your prep for this. Not sure Mt Eden has the altitude required, Scenic drive will get you 1/10th of the way there so just do it x10 and you'll be sweet 😂 I'm a fellow trainerroad user, similar age and weight aspirations so I'll certainly be keenly following your progress. Guess this means you'll be well fit to do the Whaka Miler (just reinstated). See you on the start line!
Thanks Matt. I am not sure about the Miler. I think it will take even longer to complete than Leadville! We are lacking a few hills in Akl for sure. Mount Eden for Intervals and Scenic for longer climbs. See you around no doubt. :-)
We're practically the same! Weighed in at 78 kg this morning, 228 TR AI FTP and a year younger than you. I, too, have same weight and ftp goals for this August. Will look forward to your next vid.
I wish I found this earlier....really good stuff. I just completed Leadville Stages this weekend....my first attempt. Using trainerroad for the last 90 days, I felt awesome on the bike. But climbing the goat trail at the top of Columbine, and the first steep section of Powerline where at my ability and pace dictated walking, was where I struggled the most. Should have got toe cleats, and practiced pushing a bike up 20+% grades. I literally needed to practice pushing my bike. Calf cramps and lower back fatigue post push affected me greater than any other portion of the course. 10hr and 2 min finish, and a wonderful experience. Good luck!
@@jaselikesbikes Maybe due to the Stage race having more people clumped together, despite a fraction of racers, makes it so you are almost forced to walk. At the same time, trying to ride in those two spots may jeopardize your ability to even finish the race. I have fast friends with big belt buckles and they state they have faster times when they walk a few of those key sections. I did not get in the lottery, so no 100. I'll do the stage again next year and attempt the lottery or draw a coin. Good luck!
Yep, I barely made it across the line at the Tahoe Trail 100 to qualify for the coin lottery. 7h 58m with cut off of 8h. They drew my number and I said out loud. "oh crap. Well I know what I'm doing for the next year."
Looking forward to following your progress Jase. I'm the same age but considerably heavier, also with old neck injury and trying to lose some mass for October, so it'll be great to see how it goes. Good luck
You should check out Fatty and Hottie’s Leadville podcast series, lots of good info. Fatty has done the race something like 20 times, they break down sections of the course and how to prepare for it.
Thanks and yes I agree. I started listening to them some years ago and I think it motivated me to got into the lottery. Very worthwhile and looking forward to this seasons podcast.
Good luck Jason, keen to see your progress / results on and post race😊
Cheers John. Hopefully there is progress!
I buckled so I was pretty happy!
This is my first time racing Leadville too! I’ll be following your vlog for sure!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, hopefully it will be useful to you :-)
Great attitude - (as a 63 yo new cyclist who's just lost a quarter of my body weight) I'm looking forward to following your progress
That is awesome, great job! I bet you feel so much better on the bike.
@@jaselikesbikes Absolutely! Good luck with the prep - I bet your back will enjoy the extra support too :)
Looking fwd to following your progress , Jase , all the best for a successful journey
Thanks Darryl. The support is much appreciated.

Good on you Jase. Look forward to following your journey.
Thanks Murray. Will catch up down in Rotovegas soon.
Mint! Look forward to following your journey Jase 🙌🏽
Cheers Si.
After 7 attempts, I finally got into LT100 in 2023 at 51 years old. It is a life changing experience, good luck to you!
Thanks, I realise how lucky I was getting in on the first try. I hope it went well.
I got my buckle (10:57) so I was pretty happy!
Awsome, I am looking for around that time.@@cammayfield1800

Hi there youngster. Are you off to LT100 too? Good luck on those FTP goals and thanks for watching. Fingers crossed we improve 🙂
@@jaselikesbikes Yelp, will be doing the LT100 mtb this August! I'm sure we can improve!
I guess I will be in the Brown Corral@@sloxcmtber
@@jaselikesbikes Just saw that they added a brown.... hoping to get blue like the previous years but still haven't buckled.
Good luck for this year@@sloxcmtber you seem fit enough to have buckled, what went wrong?
I'm interested in the logistics of it. How you find traveling there. Ease of securing accommodation etc. Good luck with the training.
Lots to go into but I will dive into that in one of the Vlogs. It is expensive that is for sure and I could have done at least one or 2 things better.

Thanks! Ouch yes the pushing sucks, I am hoping not too push too much but it will be inevitable in those 2 spots. Are you doing the race?

Watching this while doing a training ride for Leadville--first timer and new to racing here. See you there and enjoy the training!
