I met Gypsy in 1964 when I was 12. I still have her autograph to me and I remember the brief meeting so well. She was bigger than life!

The Natalie Wood film is one of my favorite films of all time. And she sparked my interest in Gypsy Rose Lee's life. It just such an interesting story.

I inherited my mother’s copy of Mother Finds a Body by Gypsy Rose Lee. It’s a good read! I also love Gypsy’s cameo in the nun-comedy Trouble With Angels starring Hayley Mills and Rosalind Russell (aka Gypsy’s mom in the movie Gypsy).

I will get the book because the first one was excellent. But Rosalind Russell makes the movie. Her strip at the end and the unshed tears are a master class in acting!

I hope her real story gets a movie.

And they were clever and intelligently cheeky. Expensive, often custom, costumes. Very often on the road.

My grandma used to call me "Gypsy Rose-Lee" when I was a kid . I always thought it was just a made up nickname she'd given me until I saw this video and realized she was an actual person! Very interesting 💯❣️

I was born in 1966. According to my mom, by the age of 3, I would walk into any room and introduce myself with a “Hi, My name is Gypsy Rose Lee!”

The ugly duckling that became a beautiful swan. Love her. She persevered over so much. I have nothing but admiration for her. 🥰😍🙏🏻

Streisand wanted to Star and Direct a Remake of Gypsy, as a Bookend to Funny Girl! Sondheim told her she could do One or the Other, but not Both, so the Deal fell Through!

Streisand would have been amazing in the role decades ago. But now? Baby June is in her 60s?

@ Yes, she should have done it in the 90’s, instead of The Mirror Has Two Faces! Her Voice was still pretty Strong then!

Not explained here is the reason for multiple birth certificates - her mother would use the ones with the earlier years to get by child labor laws, the ones with the later years to get child fares on trains.
One bit of trivia the musical “Gypsy” gets right - Lee was a talented seamstress who made her own costumes in her early career.
I recall an interview with a newsman who was at one of her press conferences. She was very demurely dressed, but with elbow length gloves. As she began speaking, she very slowly started undoing the buttons on one glove. By the time she was done speaking, all she had done was unbutton and remove one glove, but the guy had been so mesmerized, his notebook was blank!
The song “Zip!” from “Pal Joey” is based on her stripping style.

Gypsy Rose Lee was a true American original, a complete self-creation and a unique personality. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

THIS is who we're supposed to think about when speaking about Gypsy Rose. Not the criminal one. Yuck.
