Nice react Man... You mentioned the Brittney Smile !! at the end... Not too many say anything.. but to Me .. "Best shot of the video"... Because the rest of this album "Apex" .. then the next one "Abyss" is one whole story which is Amazing .. both lyric and music.. Hope you venture further.. you will not regret it !! Cheers !!
That style of bass playing is generally referred to as "hammer & claw". The downward motion of the thumb is the hammer, and the upward motion of the fingers is the claw.
I almost didn't want to click the like button because it was at 69 likes...but...I love this band too much not to. HAHAHA. Welcome to the UTA fandom my guy!!!
The bass technique has been around for a while, but it had more of a following in fast-jazz (and a small following there) No thumb-slap involved. The umb picks with the same attack/speed as the other fingers. The non-thumb fingers appear to be rolling like a banjo clawhammer, BUT the clawhammer typically has more of a swung-groove in it (at the finest time-increments, the strike-intervals are not equal in classic bluegrass clawhammer. Me=former bluegrass/trad-irish player whose engineering background makes me a timing-analysis nerd). Anyway, Matt Garrison was one of the earliest proponents, iirc, along with Di Palazzo. Nikko Whitworth (the bassist in this video) will often use his thumb/ring/middle finger in this song, tho he does throw all 4 into the fray at the time. The technique is a GREAT way to get a lot of notes in, fast, without wearing out a plectrum (or 2 fingers, in neo-classic bass fingerstyle picking). You might notice one of the first few shots, Nikko does a bit of a bass-face while looking at his fretting hand go crazy on some 4-fret fast stocatto runs... I think the reason he does the left hand that way is to simplify the right-hand's need to alternate strings... I could be wrong on that. Anyway, tons of fun to play. I need a refresher on that technique myself (just got a 4 string fretless ukulele bass as a practice instrument). Other's will suggest a lot of UTA songs to listen to, but I'm going to throw in Legacy, because no one else ever does.
This band is unbelievable...their last 2 albums are out of this world. you already reacted to Brittney Slayes. She is the one who sings in the song Fate of Men by Arjen Lucassen's Star One. Big advice: react to their whole last 2 albums! the bassist's fingerstyle technique is unusual for a bass player, cause it's a variation of a common Banjo playing technique
IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME! AWAKENING To look up into the night's sky, to see the stars they are changed To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am the same This mountain hollow that keeps me in a suffocating embrace A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way Lo, a new master calls me to awakening, I know this one brings the end Far out beyond the darkness I've been living in it's true, a whole new world awaits Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die My path begins with the new dawn; a voice is calling my name It always starts as whispering then manifests to a scream I'm drawn to the creature that wakes me, bound to them by the curse My soul exists only to serve, a covenant of birth Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die Come to me, awakening Follow my voice, come to me Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never Lighting my way in the night To roam; to never die
Brittany's vocals are like a female version of Tommy. Imagine the 2 of them doing a duo? I think that would break the internet and rip open the time space continuum
I'm glad you finally got around to this... As far as this excellent bass player goes who was unfortunately not part of this band at this time, he seems to be what people have considered to be playing the base like he would play a banjo. 3 finger plus thumb thmbu.mb..
I forgot to mention if you want to hear Britney's voice with less of a power thrust but more of melody, Then a good one I would suggest would be a song off the abyss album callEd LEGACY
The bass is slapping in beginning. But the minimal movement he needs and almost casual approach throws you off. No it's not common. The slapping with thumb is not heavy and Nikko uses first index finger but towards end all but the pinky of the fingers at different times while staying so relaxed. I'm no expert mind you, just going off what your fellow UA-camr David Heretic says - who is a bass player with over 30 years of experience. He said he hardly ever was as impressed and annoyed by a bass player's talent.
her look after the growl gets me every time!

Like banjo picking

unleash the archers cleanse the bloodlines
unleash the archers tonight we ride
Tonight We Ride was the first one he reacted to. Then this.

Agreed 😉👍🔥🔥🔥🤘
The bass technique is similar to "clawhammer" from banjo playing.
they are from where i live i used to see them at the jam spots all the time
IMMORTAL IS MORE THAN A NAME!
AWAKENING
To look up into the night's sky, to see the stars they are changed
To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am the same
This mountain hollow that keeps me in a suffocating embrace
A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way

Far out beyond the darkness I've been living in it's true, a whole new world awaits
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die
My path begins with the new dawn; a voice is calling my name
It always starts as whispering then manifests to a scream
I'm drawn to the creature that wakes me, bound to them by the curse
My soul exists only to serve, a covenant of birth
Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night
Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die
Come to me, awakening
Follow my voice, come to me
Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night

Lighting my way in the night

Or to put it another way, Britney Hayes Slayes appears to be spawn of Is Ronnie James Dio, along with Dino Jelosic
I'm glad you finally got around to this...

Yes, you have seen it! Marko Hietala from Nightwish hand picks this way, thumb first.
"Cleanse the bloodlines" next please, stay safe and greetz from Germany
You need to check out Steve Vai - Teeth of the Hydra 😉🤟🏻
To see amazing Bass playing please react to Scardust "Concrete Cages". Orr Didi is so much fun to watch and listen to 😊

Nikko Whitworth was the bass you saw during this and Tonight We Ride. Later albums another replaced him. Just as good technically, but not as relaxed.
This is the old style of play on bass gitars. .
Fixating too much on the bassist...
