To see a woman of this stature, singing what I believe is such an underappreciated song, and having fun ..... My lord did this put a smile on my face. Thank you!
When I saw Mavis Staples touring with Bonnie Raitt, it was a must to witness this icon, and National Treasure. Mavis took the whole arena at The Mohegan Sun to church...and it was such a joyous trip.
You saw Mavis Staples touring with Bonnie Raitt I didn’t know that believe me
Mavis Staples covering one of my favorite talking heads songs. What's better than that? Salute!
I was about to comment but there was your comment right at the top just word for word what I was going to say.
amen! the Staples Singers covered it in the early 80s, even went on Soul Train with it.
She brings a new understanding to the song as well.
thats what i thort too
The Staples did it long before the Talking heads.
Saw Mavis sing this last Saturday night. She sounded great 👍. Amazing.
My daughter and I saw her two nights ago, same thing. Loved it!!
Shout out to the guitarist for adding flare and sweet strumming
Rick Holstrom is the business!
he is a machine
He's amazing!
Flair. Not Flare.
A living legend. Going to see Ms. Mavis at the Apollo in May. David Byrne will be there and will perform this with her. Will be INSANE.
Are you serious? Please let me know how that goes, that sounds amazing.
how did it go man! tell us all about it
*WOW !!!* if this doesn't stir ya deep down in your soul... ya ain't breathing and six feet under !!!
Recommended to me by my boss, Mavis ROCKS!!!!! first time I've heard the version, will not be the last
God ain't done with you yet, Mavis! Great stuff!!
Sonny Young She’ll outlive us all
I saw her on this tour. I had the biggest smile on my face when she started signing this. Feel great every time I hear it. Keep rockin' Mavis.
I never realized that I needed this in my life
Mavis Staples has a way of moving a soul that has been in a coma...she breathes life into it...and makes it want to praise the Lord!
Gosh she is So Good at her game. One of the best. She has got a good band, actually a excellent band. She is just up there with the greats
Fantastic cover of the David Byrne song. Holy Mo. Transcendent. Stay with us, Mavis! David too.

Oh, how i wish i could have been there live! Even through the video i feel the energy..being in the audience must have been a phenomenal experience!
It was! Catch her if you get the chance.
You said it! But how come no-one's dancing?!? I'd be shaking my tail-feather like mad if I was there!!!
Yes I was thinking the same. I don't know if she is touring still, but I'd love to see her live. A song like that makes you want to get up and move.
NUFF RESEPKT ! AWESOME COVER OF THE TALKING HEADS CLASSIC. POPS WOULD BE DANCIN' IN HEAVEN !
This sweet lady can make any song sound better. Yes, indeed !
Way to go , Mavis & Co.! It was really refreshing to have this on the radio. It brought attenttion to the lyrics & one of my old Fav. Bands.

Legit cover
I thought the version the Staple Singers did 30 years ago was great ..this is even better
This should have at least 862,000 likes. At least.
cool now
She done took this song & run away with it...wheel inside a wheel....
I've never heard of Mavis Staples before but you have my permission to use her picture on a sign that says "you must be at least this awesome to cover a Talking Heads song" because heck yeah
Check out the Pops Staples and the Staples Singers. You won't be disappointed.
you heard her and her dad before you just didnt know who they were,She a American Icon
...run down a video copy of "The Last Waltz" to check out Mavis and Pops singing with The Band, then dig a little deeper to find what you can on one of her mentors, the iconic Miss Clara Ward...
Nathan Hawks Pops was in David Byrne’s Talking Heads infused movie “True Stories”
She is a National Treasure. I'm reading her biography right now... How many people had recording contracts at age 12, and are still touring and performing at this level at age 80?
Just 1. Mavis.
Stevie Wonder may get there too, but he's just 69 this year.
💖💖💖💖💖👌

💣
Tak skal du have 🎉 💕 ✨️
Damn, she sings low second octave notes better than George Michael!
Way back when the Staple Singers first started performing, she was assigned the low part until her brother his puberty. Then she was shifted to the lead part. True story. At age 12 she was singing bass. There is no one like Mavis.
😂 Take it home Mavis!!!
2:48
Stop Making Sense is still the best rendition, ever. Thank you Talking Heads.
Funky
I didn't think anyone could ever do justice to a Talking Heads song but I was wrong.
David Byrne played guitar on their version of this song and he's performed with Mavis Staples once or twice I believe
was this at the limelight in london??

@@gregnormal55. Honestly, I'm sick of the blues..I used to work with a company that did outdoor/large venues and a lot of what we did was blues festivals.
I like weird stuff, but i must say i do like the twist on the arrangement Ms Mavis used for this song.
I was just hunting for different takes on some songs and fell across this. I thought i recognized venue as The Limelight London, as I was there on Winter Solstice Eve in 2001.
Am I correct?
@@sherrydixon4852 Hey! That's very good to know, I just can't stop myself from listening to this song anytime am alone, if I may ask which of all her songs is your favorite? Have a great day... Stay Safe
@@gregnormal55. I don't know this woman from Eve.. must be famous but no one pays attention..
I found this video because of the song she was doing... Now... Please... does anyone know if this concert hre was taped at the Limelight in London....
?
@@sherrydixon4852 Hey! I'm truly move by your love and passion for lovely songs and I would love to know more about you because you seem nice and worth talking to but it's public here, can we chat off here if you don't mind? Take care
I wonder why didn't you accompany this performance as a bonus DVD of the live in London album!
If this doesn't make you move, check ya pulse, you might be dead.
I'd like to see Jack white do this song
This ain't no disco.
To wonder who doesn't like this, perhaps is anti-fa. I'm alright with that. Quote me if you like.
Assuming it's the Q folks
Probably meant Q folks/and those opposed to protesters.

@@gregnormal55. Absolutely!! She's a living legend. I have been fortunate to see her perform live many times. I am blessed.
WHITE folk always in our music

Mavis would loathe your nasty comment.
