Here in Brazil, women usually wear many jewelry at the same time - necklace, bracelets (sometimes more than one), rings (more than one) and earrings. Teenagers use several, but more delicate ones. Adults also use several, but heavier ones. The pieces are not always of the same material; silver is mixed with gold, with resin (of various colors), with straw, etc. I prefer to use two pieces: very small earrings with large necklace, or large earrings with large ring, or large earrings with medium strap. But my favorite piece is the big ring, which I find very fancy.

Hello, I am from Mozambique, South -East African Coast, here most of the women wear the african printed cloth around their waist like a long skirt, they usually match the fabric of the cloth with the head scarf )usually made from the exact same material)) we use the cloth to make earings, braclets and even cover shoes and hand bags, if one can not have earings or necklaces made in the same fabric as the clothes, then women tend to wear an earing that has the same dominant color as the printed fabric or stick to gold or silver colored jewellary, but in general..when we are not sure..we just match things.

All this boldness only compliments warm and dark skin colors. That's why Europeans developed a more discreet style, we'd look washed out in so much color. I love this style though and I try to get similar patterns in more neutral colors and use one bold, bright colored necklace. That's the most I can take with my pale yellowish skin.

Great video Justine.. I loved the silver chain necklace a lot...
I am from India.. Here, during festivals and occasions like weddings, women layer up the gold around their neck to show off everything they have at once.. especially in wedding ceremonies. Also, they tend to wear set of necklace, ear rings, bangles, rings, everything...... :)
The married women here (including me) mostly wear a necklace called " Mangalsutra" indicating they are married; just like the engagement ring people wear in other countries. so most of the time we wear a separate necklace along with Mangalsutra.
I loved your french wardrobe essentials video too. keep up good work :)

Shraddha, that is so interesting. I live in Canada, but my husband was born Christian in South India, and at our wedding his family gave me a gold necklace with a small cross pendant that they call a 'minna' (not sure about the spelling!). I wasn't sure if that was a custom throughout India or only with Christians in Kerala. It is one of the few pieces of yellow gold jewelry that I own. I treasure it for the symbolism. There are 7 dots on it, representing the bride, the groom, both sets sets of parents, and 'holy spirit'. It is a simple beautiful piece that looks fantastic with the saris that I sometimes get to wear on special occasions.

Justine, I loved every single necklace you shared from your collection! I am a good 20+ years older than you, and a bit self conscious about my neck not being as firm and taught as it once was. Would appreciate your advice on styling necklaces on women who are 50 years and older. Some modifications from your video, may involve common sense, but any advice you can share from a French perspective, as it relates to your knowledge of the over 50 French woman, would be most appreciated. If you are ever in a position to style the over 50 year old European woman, and to share your styling endeavors, on your you tube channel, and or other social media platforms, I would be so appreciative. Lastly, I hope you are seriously considering publishing a style book. Your well organized and flawlessly executed you tube videos, would be well complemented by printed materials. You are a gifted methodologist, and I appreciate your conceptual thoughtfulness, along with your pragmatic and succinct approach to explaining why you recommend what you do. Would love a printed reference from you, so if I am pressed for time, I can review your recommendations, without returning to the specific you tube video. Hopefully, the printed materials, would also allow you to monetize and copyright/trademark your work. Realize your videos are already time consuming, but your strengths from your earlier business career, come through in your videos, and make you stand out in your impressive styling endeavors. Best wishes, Justine. Thank you for your hard work and passion. Your videos are helping me so much, as I review my strengths and challenges in my current styling journey.

I'm about Justine's age, but I would still love a video on more "mature" styles. (But I'm sure she would say that any age can wear any style, which is true of course.)

    • @lindas.1751
      @lindas.1751 7 років тому +14

I'm a "mature" 50 plus, and always find Justine relevant and interesting. I love wearing jewelry, though to be honest, I am not as doctrinaire about the lines of necklaces and clothing necklines as Justine. Often I think most of my pendant short necklaces work with v neck, boat neck, crew neck, scoop neck -- with lots of different lines. Like Justine, I prefer silver, especially, now that my hair is more silver! I have found that being diligent about using coconut oil on my neck helps a lot with how it looks. The only style of necklace I'm still hesitant about are chokers. Some of those work, usually the ones that have some heft to them. Others really don't look right, to me, except on young women. I don't know of many (any?) similar UA-camrs, regularly posting content, for our age group on fashion, at the moment. I keep watching for some though!

I'm a "maturing" woman (45) with a sagging neck under my chin - I no longer have a jaw line and my cheeks also sag! I've found that a strong statement necklace and a bright lipstick takes all the attention off what I consider to be very unflattering signs of aging! : ) I'm looking forward to seeing what Justine recommends for us ladies -- the more tips the better!! Ciao from Italy!

  • @Shayri01
    @Shayri01 7 років тому +29

Personally when I wear Indian outfits I always wear bangles, earrings and a bindi. In family weddings I go all out and wear heavy necklace, long earrings (a must for me, can skip the necklace but not the earrings), armlet, bangles, rings, teeka and payal (anklets).
For casual wear, my usual style is statement earrings, a watch & a bracelet in right hand. With western party wear, I usually wear sleek earrings, bracelet and a statement ring. If I'm in a formal or somber setting than I go minimalistic with a dainty watch and stud earrings.

I love vintage costume jewellery, which I wear as Coco Chanel intended, carefully chosen to accessorise my outfit like a scarf or a pair of statement shoes. I have a few solid gold rings and some antique gold filled bracelets and lockets. But I also wear 1930s Bakelite, 1950s moonglow Lucite, Trifari necklaces and windup pendant watches from the1960s. I love it when people comment on my jewellery because they haven't seen anything like it before. Especially here in Australia; I get most of it online from the US.

I grew up in NYC, lived in Paris as a teen and for the last 20 years, very rurally in Montana and Maine. My style reflects the Parisian coming of age, the edgey urban, the casual utilitarian rural, and my bohemian 1970's childhood. My favorite way to wear necklaces is what you mentioned - bold collar necklaces with crew necks. I like all metals equally, but I find that brass is my go-to style. It's rugged and glamorous at once. I do like to mix metals sometimes - very American. My favorite jewelry phase was when I had thrifted a series of brightly colored multi-strand resin and plastic necklaces and wore them with preppy plaid shirts. It was a charming way to get through the winter doldrums. But I love fine jewelry with casual menswear a lot - pearls or diamonds with a simple vneck sweater or oxford shirt are always great. I loved how the character in Julia and Me layered a pearl necklace with a gold chain with subway token charm every day. It was so wrong it was right, because she had short hair and a plain overall style: quirky but distinctive. My favorite things of all are rings with large green or blue stones, and gold necklaces with a coin or disc charm. I love to wear my grandmothers' which are real US gold coins, and a bit tacky but bold and VERY original. I like all types of jewelry equally,, and my style is to wear one piece for a week or more at a time and then switch, so I'm not accessorizing my outfits so much as I am playing on themes. When it comes to long necklaces, there are never good ones with blue or green stones. Long necklaces tend to be under- or overedesigned, and very cheap and "juniors" in style. It would be easy to own this underserved market niche. I totally agree that it's tacky to wear earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings at the same time. I hope this helps your research!!!

Justine, you said you are doing "market research" about what jewelry your viewers wear. I have worn only sterling silver jewelry for decades. I have thought for a long time that gold is too "flashy" on my very pale skin.
Your video on skin tone confirmed that my choice is correct. My skin has a cool undertone. I always wear simple sterling silver earrings and a silver ring on each hand. On one hand I wear a larger ring with silver & a turquoise stone. On the other hand I wear a simple Celtic-style band. This is what a wear every day. Less is more, especially for me, approaching my seventh decade on earth.
Thanks so much for your videos. I enjoy them a lot!

Hi Justine, I'm french, on my 40´s, my wardrobe is limited and simple (except on summer holidays, anout just the opposite;)), and I love to style it up wit my jewelry. Everyday I would wear a ring (usually quite wide, about 1cm wide), but to style my cloths nothing better than my necklaces. A bit like you I like them big, or thin and long, or a bit "cascade", in warmer colors than yours, as per my skin tone I guess. I love semi-precious stones with their magnificent and subtle colors. I started wearing earings, but not the easiest thing for me (even if beautiful I often "feel them" a bit too much). In summertime, on a tanned skin, with colourful and fantastic outfits, I love wearing a bracelet, I have a magnificent one with aigues marines that is pure beauty ;)

Not boring! Trousers are one of the hardest items! The fabric, the cut, even the pockets can draw attention to places you might not realize. Knowing where a specific style is supposed to break on the foot, or even if it's supposed to break on the foot, and which styles to avoid depending on body type... these are all important! Trousers are NOT boring!

Could you build on this video with explaining age appropriate jewlery? I hardly ever wear necklaces (with the exception of chokers) because I feel like they make me look older (I'm 16). I much more prefer earrings and, in rare occasions, a bracelet.

Maria 03 When you're that young, big jewellery pieces look off. I'd stick to dainty necklaces, such as the one she showed where she changed a few pendants. A variation would be that same, shorter length with a few little decorations, like little flowers (check Accessorize), or if you like long necklaces, you can even wear them with a simple white or black loose t-shirt, but again it should be made of a thin chain and not too bulky pendant. Always think minimal. Hope that helps :)

I'm from the UK as well and I only partially agree with you! I think it depends not just on what jewellery you're wearing, but also how your hair is as well. I have long hair and generally wear dangly earrings. If I have my hair up in, for example, a bun and some earrings in, I won't wear any other jewellery apart from my watch. But if I have my hair down and my earrings are hidden slightly, I'll probably wear a long necklace as well.

I love earrings, can't leave the house if I'm not wearing them, feel bare, incomplete.
I like pearls, classic studs and brilliants (mine are very tiny).
I wear only silver or white gold because I'm 100% a cool toned person. Re. necklaces I totally agree with you on every single point, the French ways seems also to be the Italian way :-)
I fancy necklaces as well but not as much as earrings, and with them I'm more daring: I can also sport ethnic stuff and more eye catching pieces.
Earrings give light and luminosity to my complexion, they do wonders, like a tiny amount of makeup, that's why I plan on investing on a decently sized pair of brilliants for my lobes.

simplymilla I'm the same. Wear simple smallish earrings every day, usually silver. Also wear my wedding ring every day which is platinum, gold and diamond, simple and classic. If I have on a very plain shirt or blouse I might wear a necklace, but if I do earrings are very simple. Here is the US we have a trend towards what my mother would have called "costume jewelry", which has plated rather than solid metals, plastic beads and colored pieces (example Bauble Bar), and I hope this trend dies quickly. If costs as much or more than Sterling silver and looks like cheap junk to me.

simplymilla I'm the same! I always carry a pair of earrings in a pillbox in my purse - sometimes if I'm in a hurry or late I forget to put on some earrings and I have my emergency pair (which is just a dainty gold bar - minimalist and geometric style)

Glea Foor honestly I think pearl necklaces don't go with anything casual like shorts, jeans, basic t shirts. I feel like they're more for nicer occasions. Maybe like a meeting at work, a nice dinner, wedding, funeral, etc. Or if you're just dressing up nice one day. And I think they go best on their own. A pearl necklace, some simple earrings, and maybe a simple ring or bracelet. But that's just how I would style them!

Love classic necklaces (pearls, delicate gold chains, crystal beads, Florentine millefleur strands ). Nothing too chunky. Occasionally wear one bracelet if it matches my necklace. Love Victorian vintage pieces. As for earrings like to wear
diamond studs, any kind of pearls . Crazy about fun, dangly costume earrings. As for rings just wear my wedding ring and anniversary band on one hand and my engagement ring on the other. Never any other rings.

hi Justine!!!love your very informative video. jewelry is such a complicated subject. it really communicates a lot about the person. for example, business conservative dress requires something "polished" looking. you notice the jewelry, but not too much. fun jewelry goes with casual outfits. it can be anything but conservative. then there is sentimental items. doesn't matter if it matches the clothes. jewelry can also represent a certain period of time in a person's life (wedding jewelry)etc.

Justine, I have recommended your videos to several of my friends. As always your information is great, straightforward and fun.
I have a statement necklace that is actually five different necklaces together with beads in clear glass, some resin, silver and a piece of turquoise. I wear it sometimes daily with just some "diamond" studs. It dresses up a simple tee shirt, a plain white long sleeve shirt, many of my dresses. It is THE piece with which I travel.
The other piece I have is a pearl necklace that I wear with pearl and diamond earrings.
With only those two pieces, I am prepared for anything.
    Every woman should have pearls.
    Keep up the good work.

My favourite pieces are ones I get traveling. I am Canadian and I have favourite bobble earrings from Spain, glass ones from Portugal, necklaces from Italy, a mixed media necklace from Murano, and a statement necklace with lace from Burano. I got some neat fork jewelry pieces in Mexico from a girl from Chile. I just got some studs from a Christmas market made from old watches and the gears are revealed, they are the favourites of the moment.
I like it best when I have sentimental attachment to a piece. I always keep my eyes peeled for jewelry when traveling, it’s a reminder of my trip and something I can interact with.

Hello ladies and Justine, I agree with everything you state in your videos. It is right on point. Being also in the older group category with the same issues of wanting to not show your neck so much like before, I love chokers personally as they still look sexy, feminine and you can literally have them in all colors and materials. I also find that in winter, I enjoy wearing turtleneck sweaters with big earrings or smaller earrings and a long chain necklace- all of this hides what we wish to hide perfectly. Wearing a nice scarf also does the trick as one can style/tie it in different original ways to make it fun, attractive, classy and elegant.

    Great video, as usual!
I have a few statement necklaces that I like to wear, especially in winter when I'm wearing the same sweaters over and over again.
I also wear very short hair, so I wear a lot of drop and chandelier earrings. They draw attention to my neck, which I like, and add a bit of softness and elegance to my look. (My haircut is a bit severe/edgy.)
Additionally, I wear about 15-25 bracelets every day. These are multicolored beaded, fabric, chain, woven, and plastic bracelets that I pick up whenever I go someplace new. They remind me of all the fun places I've been, and they are also a great conversation-starter. Because these bracelets are part of my signature look (or uniform), I do not choose necklaces relative to the bracelet stack. I only take them off for sporting events, formal events/special occasions, and sometimes in the winter when they get in the way of my layers. I live in Southern California and sometimes New York.

If metallic paper is used to make a necklace or earrings, they can truly look like 'real' jewelry, not to mention they are lightweight, durable, and comfortable to wear. Hi Justine! Thanks so much for your videos. They're interesting and educational! I live in USA, and in the Spring and Summer I opt for just a pair of earrings with my work outfit, or even to go out. In the Fall and Winter, my favorites are necklace and earrings which pair together. I prefer costume jewelry over precious metals and stones, because they make more of a statement for not as much money, and my favorites use polished stone beads. I can dress up a tee-shirt, or look really put together when I wear a dress, or suit. Thanks, again! Keep up the great work. :)
