Kurayami Matsuri Festival - Manto Festival (May - Tokyo in 12 months)

May, June and July are the seasons for portable shrine festivals in Tokyo, along with autumn. A portable shrine festival is held in some shrine every weekend.
The first one is the Kurayami Matsuri Festival in Okunitama Jinja Shrine, Fuchu.
It takes place from April 30th to May 6th. The festival reaches its climax with the portable shrine departure ceremony on May 5th, and is gaining momentum through May 3rd, 4th, and 5th during the consecutive holidays, leading up the climax.
The Manto Festival is held in the afternoon on May 4th. About 15 Mantos by the youth associations of neighborhood communities participate.compose of the frame of a hat called a Baren and flowers attached to it. They spin Manto for two minutes, competing for beauty and skill.
