    When I had locs, it was the first time I realized that using oil on the scalp was actually attracting dirt and causing my scalp to feel itchy. I never in my life had not used oils on my scalp until I had locs and I carried that practice over into my loose natural life afterwards. Oils aren't really necessary. But I'm glad you're figuring out along the way what works or doesn't work for you. It'll have the most impact when you make these discoveries on your own. 😊

    The reason why they're unraveling in the shower is because you're wearing (or wore) a tight style. Baby locs shouldn't be styled tight because not only can is cause thinning early on, it slows the loc'ing process. That is why it looked like straws once you took your style out. Palm rolling is the oldest form of loc'ing, however, interlocking gives you an instant loc. I personally want too go back to interlocking, but to find someone qualified is very difficult. Try more loose styling and I promise you your hair will start to loc faster. Glad you discovered that oil dries your scalp, I want our people free of thinking oils will grow the hair any faster than it already grows and that it isn't a moisturizer. Hope my advice helps, should you choose to take it.
    I almost forgot, a scalp detox is unnecessary, a clarifying shampoo followed by a hydrating shampoo is all you need. Less is more when it comes to locs ❤

      Hey! Thanks so much for your advice ❤ I actually started to notice the unraveling before I started getting the tighter styles. After my first retiwst, I got a regular style that wasn’t a barrel style (I forgot to show a picture of it) and that’s really when I noticed the unraveling in the shower. I think it was a combination of that and spraying it too often. While I do appreciate your thoughts, I think it really depends on your hair type! My hair texture is tight but it is also very soft, which is why my Loctician suggested doing tighter styles at the beginning of each retwist and letting them breathe at the two week mark, which has helped so much with the unraveling (she has noticed too)
      I also prefer the scalp detox over washing my own hair at home at the moment to help preserve my styles in-between my professional retwists for now. Once they are more loc’d, I’ll probably feel more comfortable washing and retwisting myself! Again my hair is sooo soft so I’ve noticed that washing it too early does more damage than good (I know this doesn’t apply to everyone)
      I’m going to continue to trust myself in every part of the journey by trying different things, seeing what works best for me and sharing what changes along the way!

      What do you recommend to keep it moisture btw I’m on month 2

    • @haidehollins
      @haidehollins 21 день тому +2

      @Iamdee10 it takes seven days for moisture to leave the hair and scalp. There isn't a product that needs to be applied everyday to retain moisture. Wash with a hydrating shampoo and retwist and you should be fine. Unless you have a liquid treatment because cream conditioner at this stage isn't advised. Hope this helps

    I’m going to try out that hair serum. I could never do oils due to it weighing my hair down! Love the update! I love that you are going about your journey through learning your hair and making changes when needed.

    Loved the update on your locs! I'm going to have to try out the Kreyol essence serum. It sounds like a good alternative for oiling the scalp!
