Toronto Streetcar Derailment & DUNDAS SQUARE Debacle Walk (June 2024)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 жов 2024
- A walk along King Street where the streetcars weren't operating all day due to a derailment at King & Church. I then head up to Dundas Square which the city recently doubled down on its plans to waste nearly a million dollars renaming in a move nobody asked for or wants and does nothing to make anyone's lives better.
0:01 - East on King Street West (from Blue Jays Way/Peter Street)
16:50 - Yonge & King
20:25 - Church & King (derailed streetcar)
24:15 - North on Church Street
29:00 - West on Queen Street East
32:22 - North on Yonge Street
36:20 - Dundas Square (rant alert)
Recorded in 4K at 60 FPS on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

Absolutely another day and another spectacular beautiful shooting filming footage compilation and you rock it all again my friend, gorgeous filming camera work looks super awesome super sharp and clear and thanks again from Montreal QC ..
Streetcars should have their own dedicated lane everywhere. Sharing it with cars makes no sense. Imagine what the city could be if they weren't obsessed with cars
I agree 100%. Trams work well in Europe for this very reason.
Thanks for braving the heat Johnny. It surely makes many of us long of days much cooler but it will soon be by us and we can get on with focusing on other things in life.
Thank you so much Johnny!☺️
You're welcome!
My opinion - Streetcars are one of the main reasons why the subway system is so lacking in TO. Sure you can move more people than a bus, but in reality, they are just slightly bigger busses on tracks. The Ontario line will help with this but honestly that line should have been in existence decades ago ... along with Eglinton, and probably many more lines
Still loving your vlogs ... your passionate defense of your city and its diverse population is inspirational. Our Canadian icons (Downie, Lightfoot, Fox) would be wonderful names to use, IMO.
I think any word in the dictionary would be more appropriate tbh.
is this area between dundas and queen?
Love streetcars but I’m sorry this derailment happened. Happy Summer Solstice! Stay cool if you can! Hydrate! Cheers! Thanks for the great video!
Well said ,thank you.
Nothing more to say than what you said. What a huge waste of money.
100%
I was on my way home from a hospital appointment around 2.30 pm on 19th June 2024 - the same day this video was recorded. We were driving south down Church street and we were unable to continue going south, so I had to turn east into Adelaide to continue my way home. But looking down Church street as we turned the corner, there were at least 3 streetcars all sitting there along Church street between Adelaide and King. I knew something had happened. My first thought was that maybe the power line was cut. But I did not know how wide spread the stoppage was. Thanks.
Why wasn't Dundas Square renamed as Gordon Lightfoot Square.
Why isn't Calgary airport renamed to Ian Tyson Airport?
Why isn't King's Highway 2 renamed Terry Fox Highway?
Lots of good Canadians out there, or at least there used to be, to name things after them.
This country is going to the dogs; no offence to our best friends!
good morning everyone
why is bus service affected as well
Your thoughts about today's Canada are not negative just the reality, sad to see what is happening to Toronto and Canada in general.
Good morning
Toronto is a beautiful city. I know someone who lives there. Orderly modern city.
I really appreciate 🙏 this type of video Johnny because it shows the truth in actuality of what 1 derailment of these massive 100,000 hunks of shit can literally 😂 paralyze the entire downtown core. 3 Major Streetcar routes had to be put on diversion & traffic snarled. CP24 protects TTC union with very little coverage. Thanks 😊 for calling 📞 this mess out.
Just showing things the way they are :)
I'm pretty sure the 501 was running but they would have to walk up to Queen Street to get it because that's the Queen car. They probably killed the power to the lines while they work on getting the derailment figured out so nothing could run on King St. I guess all those people surrounding the streetcar with the safety vests are students taking the Derailment 101 class. Those wheels must have been completely embedded in the pavement. I love your comments about the renaming of Dundas Square, they're perfect.
I think the 501 has been detouring on Church so this would have affected it.
Tbh money that will be spent on renaming would be peanuts compared to what Toronto needs to fix transportation, housing, etc.
I still don't understand why NA cities barely have greenery. If Toronto had abundant big trees, it would greatly reduce heat.
I don't think I ever seen street car off track - Then again they are longer & now a days - Back in the day the electric wires would go off track but driver would fix it quick!
The new streetcars now use a pantograph. The reason why all of these streetcars are sitting here is because the power to this section of overhead lines was shut down for safety. The electrification system that powers the overhead wires for the streetcars is divided into several sections, so if there is an incident, power can just be turned off to the affected area. These sections are separated by section insulators.
@@raymondlee3327 thanks for the info
Oh and the image of the mythical Sankofa is that of a flying bird looking directly backward clutching an egg in its beak. Good way to fly into a wall and break your precious egg.
Hey everyone!
Toronto sure loves to waste money on pointless things!💸
I’m not stuck on Sankofa but I agree with renaming it from Dundas.
🇨🇦
They can't find an indigenous word for whatever sankofa means?
That's Canada for you, they can't even do a woke thing right.
Druxy's haha I thought they were all gone.
Sankofa square is so ridiculous
It's beyond absurd.
Johnny.... My Email was hacked.... I have not been able to get in contact with you... I hope this comment will do that... I have a new email... Sincerely, Clayton Crawford
Personally I don't like streetcars for this very reason. If something happens, they can't move and they back up traffic. I know they carry more people then a bus
They back up traffic? Funny.
Can't really blame the streetcar itself for poorly maintained rail. That's like blaming cars for being slow because the Gardiner is always busy.
Streetcars should have their own lane, transit priority and if anything, you bring up a point on having more streetcar tracks on parallel roads so that streetcars could get around a blockage without getting stuck behind one congestion point.
The streetcars along with their horrendous costs should be part of history now. We keep them because of tourism? The tourists don't care.
@@andrewwoodhouse6041 Rambling nonsense.
I would’ve liked Gordon Lightfoot Square instead of this abomination of a name.
We could of renamed the intersection after two great Gord's and for two great Canadians: 1. Gordon Lightfoot (Orillia); and 2. Gord Downie (Kingston/Amherstview). And through their work we can learn about our past and future; not some shame based virtue signalling boondoggle (what a clown show civic politics is in the "modern era" especially in Toronto).
Here for the nice footage of Toronto, not your political views. Less of those please. Especially the tired, populist reductive ones.
Sure, I'll change the way I've run this channel so you can enjoy it more or I'll you know... just keep doing things the way I always have. I'm not going to stop banging this drum just as 90%+ of the population in this city should rollover and accept the performative virtue signaling (and immense waste of funds) of an arrogant councilor.
There's plenty of channels where people aimlessly wander around Toronto on here, perhaps one of those is more your cup of tea.
@@JohnnyStrides found an easy solution…. The mute button.
@@Imarocketlamp That works too... you're going to miss the part where I mention someone is actually trying to defend this nonsense in the comments though ;)
I don't know what the "hateful and intolerant past and present" he is referring to, so I could be WAY off base here, but I do think it waste a bit of a waste of money. I do not care one way or another if it got renamed, but I do care about public consultation and allocation of funds. This city has a housing crisis, no cooling/warming stations and they spent money on this? for what? I definitely do no think JS and I align politically but I do agree with SOME of his points.
@@V1sual3y3z The "hateful past and present" was a reference to the Asante Kingdom's role in the slave trade as well as the modern day treatment LGBTQ identifying individuals in Ghana.
I certainly don't expect viewers to align with my viewpoints, thanks for being open minded :)
