    Eversince UA-cam recommended one of your videos, I've been hooked! I like your style and I particularly like the 52 weeks of illustration concept. I hope you're okay? I wish you'd come back and paint some more!

    I had a quiet similar experience. I loved art and it made me feel good - I could let go, etc. So I decided (one or two weeks before deadline) to apply. :D I was 18 and I just started to really get into art. The 'artworks' I created - in such a short amount of time, looked terrible :D But like you, I still hoped that I would get accepted.
    Of course that wasn't the case - I was kinda upset but after I thought about it in depth, I was glad. I would have failed so hard if I was in an art school :D
    This video cheered me up! I'm glad that I'm not the only one who was "naive" xD
    [And sorry for grammatical errors - I haven't spoken English in a very long time :D]

    For the longest time I didn’t think I could be an artist if I wasn’t hanging in a gallery or if I didn’t go to art school. Once I finally dropped the mentality, took the pressure off myself and created what I wanted to, I started making things I actually thought looked good (or at least better). Everyone has their own path. I love your voiceovers as if telling an actual story with tangents and small rambles. Love!

    We had the almost exact same art school experience! 🤣 It's a brutal reality check, but also a good way to see what you really wanted! It seemed to work out for the best for you anyway! 😄 Thanks for sharing!

    I also applied to art school once with a photography portfolio that was very much on the documentary side of things and therefore thoroughly unsuitable for art school. Yeah, I just applied to a fine arts course, because I had these romantic fantasies of doing figure drawing and painting courses on the side. I hadn't yet figured out what exactly they expected, it was one of these things I just wanted to try, knowing that I wouldn't get in of course. I got a scathing rejection letter that still makes me laugh. Apparently my work is "derivative" 😂 What's so funny about it is that I actually had a couple of those pictures in my first solo show a few years later, because they are actually good. They just have nothing to do with "conceptual art". In our case it was the other way round by the way, portfolio first, exam second and I knew I would have failed that exam spectacularly. I think I'd have a better chance of passing it now knowing my way around a pencil and paintbrush a tad better, but it would still be entirely wrong for me. What really pissed me off back then was the way the rejection letter was worded. I was already 26 at the time, so I knew better than to take it to heart, but I wonder what an 18 yr old would have thought and felt about that. As if making art wasn't hard enough without receiving 'You suck" letters on top of it. Luckily I'm stubborn and just carried on doing what I loved!

    My art teacher said i wasnt good enough and was wasting his time, I was 10 at the time... I decided not to give up although I was so critical of my work I lost my love of painting.yearl later I applied for art school and got in, but three months on I was rejected because of who my uncle was, I didnt know at the time this was the reason or I could have fought it, Im glad i didnt though as It wasnt at all what i thought it would be, I saw the first exhibition of first year students and i loved the themes and individuality. I visited on their final exhibition years later and omg were these the same students, it looked like it was one students work, all individuality gone and had an almost evil look, melancholy. when i saw this i was glad i hadnt been allowed to stay on, I think workshops are great to do, and fit in with work schedules etc, Keep your individual style, Oh and when I looked back at my age 10 art teacher I realised he was painting the same theme over and over... and was limited in his portfolio,,, also a pedophile unfortunately, so there are lots of great art teachers out there but dont let their negativity get tto you all....

    Great story and very funny. Somehow you muddled through and came out the other end brilliant. Love your work! You didn't say what the picture was about with the little blue sheep or if you did I didn't catch it. It doesn't matter because I just enjoyed the process.

    Yay! Storytime!
    Like I mentioned in my art journey video, I also had no idea what to do with my life, and no idea what kind of “art” I wanted to learn....but I DID go to art school after quite a lot of nonsense. I think that art school helped to start my creative journey, but I feel like my REALY creative education started after graduation. Personal study of different types of creative expression has allowed me to learn more, faster, and potentially better than in a classroom environment. I don’t regret going to school, but sometimes I wonder if I would have still ended up the way I am now if I hadn’t gone. I think that you’re right, and going through that course may have felt like....it was trying to make you be something you weren’t.
    I think, in the end, we all become who we were always meant to be.

    My best friend in High School was 2 years older than me and when she went to our local college she convinced me, at 16 and with only causal experience in music, to try out for the college’s choir. It was half current music majors and half alumnus of the program. They actually made an exception for me to audition. I didn’t even read music beyond knowing stuff like repeats and notes going up or down. Lol. So at the audition the director was doing things like playing a chord and asking me to sing the middle note. Like testing my ear... yeah it was terrible.

    I had very similar experience during my exam in Torun (preservation of artworks). During the practical exam while I was drawing or painting, concentrating of course on details ;-) one of the teacher approached me and asked if I finished arts secondary school before because my style of working indicated i had finished one. I finished ordinary secondary school but I felt being complimented and in seventh heaven ;-) I thought I would pass the exam. To my surprise I didn't pass and I realized that it wasn't a compliment :-/ Maybe high arts schools don't like people educated in secondary arts schools.

    Wow! This is a lot like what happened to me! I'm the same, I don't have a passion that I'm dedicated to, I'm easy-going as well and every naive about the real world. I'm creative too, I love drawing, painting, inking but I most stick to pencil crayons since I don't really have to money to get the fancy stuff. For my artist path I choose writing, I want to write novels for a living! It's defiantly different from the general artist but I kind of fell in love with it, in my last year of high school I tried a writing course. So, I want to move across country to go to a fancy writing school called Humber, but like I said earlier I have no money, and no job, still don't.... so I found a local college that was less expensive, 2 years and under 3,000 dollars. First year, I get out and jump into the entrance exam without research or studying. I failed of course, so I jumped into a general arts and Science, no art in it, but now I've gotten into the course I wanted, but now I kind of want to go to the university next door to study English. Tried getting in last year... failed. I had never been more disappointed in my life but I'll try again once I finish the writing course at my college.

    1/5 students getting into Fine Arts in your country is a good average compared to 1/100 in Greece! In other words, almost nobody gets in except for those that paint in one particular way (mostly abstractly).

    W mieście rodzinnym chodziłam na kółko plastyczne, tato mnie zapisał jak miałam 7 lat, przestałam chodzić gdzieś w wieku 10 lat ze względu na bardzo wredne dzieciaki, które nagle się tam pojawiły. Wcześniej chodziłam regularnie, bo nie było tylu osób, i sobie potrafiłam całe dnie tam siedzieć i malować. niewiele pamiętam z tamtego okresu. mam jedno najmilsze wspomnienie, jak był grudzień i już było ciemno, a ja wróciłam do domu. mama mi powiedziała wtedy, żebym się położyła na kanapie w dużym pokoju i posłuchała kolęd. światełka choinkowe były jedynym, co świeciło się w pokoju. mama zakryła mnie kocem, i tak sobie słuchałam i czekałam na nią, bo miała przynieść kakao ;___________________;
