honestly if I was still a kid, my parents definitely would have bought this for me, and I would have fond memories of it for the rest of my life.
I would tell my friends in school, then they would beg their parent to get one lol
Same here, now as an adult i think it is quite impractical and am better with regular mario kart, but if i had a kid i would be getting 2
Back in mah day sonny 👴
The Mario version is currently setting in my closet for my two boys. I cant tell you how often i have been tempted in opening it up just to play with it myself.
I know what you mean, dude. This is the sort of thing that 80s/90s kids like us would have gone nuts over.
This is literally THE ONLY ar software I’ve ever seen that doesn’t look like complete shit
Looks good
True. The few AR games on 3ds and Vita never really looked interesting. I suppose Pokemon Go used AR, but that was really simplistic. I just don't see the potential of the tech for gaming other than for something like this.
@@fattiger6957
I think the potential is amazing although more exciting everyday purposes than for games; the problem is that no one puts any effort into it and it’s janky as all hell. This is the first thing I’ve seen that actually blends well into the environment.
@@fattiger6957 I see a lot of potential with the future AR glasses. Think of any traditional tabletop game. How about card games? Hearthstone or MTG style games would be sweet with AR and some friends.
@@PhazonBlaxor I guess for things like that, it would be cool. Augmenting things that required imagination. For video games, I don't see much use.
This actually looks way more impressive than I thought it would. I could actually see myself playing and enjoying this if I had the space for it.
It would be great to hire out a sports hall, somewhere with a smooth floor!!
I think I probably have the space for it in my house and I really think this would be cool to get it just sucks that it’s $100 for a kart and you need an entire Switch system for each player (so I would need to spend at least $200 to play with someone who comes over and they would need to own a switch to play it with me also) and I wouldn’t want anyone I live with to think they can’t come downstairs or nothing cuz I’m racing a toy car around my kitchen and living room and they’ll be in the way lmao
@@SCJhoops lmfao
Me to same 😞
@@erry9895 In theory yes. In practise, the range you can drive from the Switch is very limited. Nintendo recomendes staying within 5m from the Switch with the car, but I can't get more then 3m away befor the video gets seriously choppy. So the sports hall idea probobly won't work sadly.
Finally! I was tired of crawling around on my hands and knees while my 5 year old nephew sat on my back and yelled, “its me mario! Go mario kart!”
i loved it i may be getting it
I could see people recreate famous racing tracks from everything like NASCAR, Nürbürgring, Lime Rock, etc.
You read my mind lol
@@FloridaManRacer But not too sure how it would handle slopes or inclines since Nascar has banked turns.
Or tracks from other games like CTR
Nordschleife in Mario Kart would be awesome but the lack of checkpoints probably is what limits you as of how big tracks can be.
Imagine a 24 Hours of Le Mario circuit lol
Nintendo is trying to bring back toys to life.
Nintendo is literaly trying to revive the toys
This is great for kids, would have loved it when i was 8 years old. People tend to forget the seniors at Nintendo still see themselves as a toy company
Because they are
They are a toy company through and through
Its not so much that, as i think adults, including my self sometimes forget that nintendo makes games for mainly for kids, it tickles me when people moan about the games being easy. Theyre aimed at children!!
Nobody forgets. I love Nintendo for keeping to their roots and doing their own things. Hell, they’ve made working out fun as hell again with Ring Fit
Who cares if its for 8 year olders. People today even in their adult life act like little 4 year olders pretending to be "men". Yall literally cry about anything today. I love the direction technology is heading and I'm enjoying this piece of equipment wish we had these back in the 80s.
Bought mine yesterday, hoping for more characters would really like a bowser. Was only able to find mario. Hoping to utilize this with my church's youth group and creating a huge course at our church
That would be amazing!
That’s a great idea! Good luck with that. I wish I could do that
Just let us know when the first 24 hours of the Holy Grand Prix is about to be casted :).
That would be awesome ☝ God bless you 🙏
@@krazycharlie me too ! i bring some "Holy Water" ;)
10:40 Game has up to 200cc.
Spawn is playing on 50cc.
It can get fast, really fast.
Your track space is most limiting factor here.
I wanna see it at 200cc
The one disappointing thing about the high speeds is it drains the karts battery faster
50cc. Hence, Disappointing Reality :).
@@eatachodeutube
True i made one large course around my living room that goes outside and was playing it om 200cc and i won the gold cup but after i was done the battery was at 2%. Can't complain to much i had alot of fun. But i do wish the battery lasted a little longer.
@@ohhhyeahhh1174 how long did it last?
Honestly this just makes me want a Mario Cart maker game instead.
Mario kart maker is coming. Nintendo will have a hard time topping Mario kart 8.
Mario kart maker would make all the sense in the world. Probably be the top selling game of all time
@@hmarc1979able the only way to top Mario Kart 8 is if Nintendo makes a Smash Bros Kart kinda game, race tracks based on worlds from other Nintendo franchises.
Exactly. Hard pass from me. This looks boring and I'd rather play Mario Kart 8 on Switch instead. Even free kart levels in Mario Maker 2 on Switch are more fun than this. I just seem to be in the minority that sees the fun wearing off fast in this gimmick of a game. Once the feeling of "Wow, I'm controlling a toy with a video game" leaves you, you're like "I paid $100+ to drive an RC toy in circles in my living room, yay".
@@Deadsea_1993 I worried that people would get bored at home pretty quickly, too. But then I saw comments that suggested doing tournaments at larger event spaces such as churches or rental halls. For someone with a Switch already, this is a lot cheaper than RC car racing. I'd actually like to see Nintendo go even bigger in the future. I'm thinking back to when I saw a Lego city set up at a model railroad conference in an exhibition hall. Crazy intricate model railroad setups brought in and built on site. Teams could build portable tracks. Having 4 cars at once on custom tracks would be fun for spectators.
@@phantomcosmonaut9127 or they can make a Mario Kart Ultimate having all the characters and tracks from all mario karts to one game as well as new ones , just like what ultimate did with smash.

If they had done it the consumer friendly way, they would have made basic carts with nfc chips in them so you can drop in different characters into the cart so you can buy your favorite character instead of spending $100 each and pick between Mario and Luigi.
You are only playing on 50cc! Say its slow on the higher levels! This looks like a friggin BLAST if you had a larger play area and multiple cars/switches!
It's super fast maybe too fast but you're gonna have more fun if it's a larger course
Watching these daily Spawn Wave videos makes my job a little less stressful.
Keep it up!
I have a theory of why Nintendo created this.
At the new Mario land at the universal parks, there's going to be a Mario kart ride where two people will race against each other and well-known characters while using iconic items. How will this be accomplished?
Augmented reality.
It's been rumored that universal would use this technology to create a more immersive experience for people riding the Mario kart ride, and what better way to test the new technology than have people use it in their own homes! (in a much smaller scall mind you) It's just the best way to see if people would enjoy the augmented reality and to see how it would work in real-world environments.
But hey it's just a theory, A (insert well know UA-camr quote here)!
When I was a kid I loved RC cars, and one thing I always wanted was to be able to see from the cars point of view. I always wanted to see how fast I was going what it looked like from the driver's seat. Mario Kart Live is just fulfilling young me's dream.
Yep! This is too good to be true. It's a childhood dream come true!
I was a kid with no imagination cause I never imagined this lmao. Of course I was a weird kid. I'd get a lego set and build it and then put it on display in my room without playing with it
I love that Nintendo keeps trying innovative things like this!
@@yzois its a Mario kart game of course it's good (not counting the mobile game)
@@yzois yup I am... You got a problem about that?
@@yzois Do McDonall's IC cars come with a camera, with integration with a AR game?
@@yzois probably missing the point of the whole concept. I think it's a brilliant idea. I know ppl will made big wacky tracks with multiple kart. Imagine how cool that would be. Its mario kart in real life like scalextric. Imagine different edition karts with different speeds. The only limitations really is just the space and the frequency between the switch and your kart depending on how big the track will be. I have a son I can imagine me and him having tons of fun with this. Also who says you cant have this outside???? Perhaps in your garage.
Don't forget to give some credit to Velan Studios. They pitched and made the whole concept, with Nintendo assisting with development and hardware.
insta like because your the first i've seen with the Luigi set, everybody else has mario.
You mean Red Luigi?
Luigi is the superior brother.
@@mylunawalker I prefer tall triangle purple luigi
Your all wrong; Mario is the best Mario brother, Luigi' just a lanky piece of s**t
My brother wanted the Luigi set, but it was sold out, he got the Mario Set and I'm not kidding, no Luigis and 4 Marios on the store
Finally someone with the luigi set.
Its seems they made less Luigi
@@SlushRushSweep Nintendo throwing shade to luigi since the beginning of time lol
I got the luigi this christmas! (I already had mario)
I am still excited with the thoughts of a drone and playing pilot wings. Or STAR FOX in augmented reality!!!
Starfox needs this!
Star Fox would be sick. "Do a barrel roll" lmao. That'd be Insane to do that with an RC fighter plane
Next stop dedicated augmented reality based system consoles perhaps even a whole room system where you the player are surrounded by the game itself?
into the vrains ?
i just ordered mine☺️ and I have a dji mini 2 so hopefully i will be doing some vids from the drones perspective and the kart's. stay tuned for more!
Finally someone that has the luigi's set.
I can see the custom RC world eating this up. Eventually karts that hop and drift will be a thing.
aye iam waiting for this :D
It's really fun. But drifting is done in the game, I would imagine that customising the cart would be game breaking
lol Nintendo and closed source go hand in hand. they are not gonna let people hack and customize their tech... they'll shut that down any loopholes with a firmware update right quick.
Then a remake without the nintendo stamp would be implemented. It's a copycat world.
"I picked up the Luigi set..." Time hit that like button.
This concept has tons of potential in the future.
Walmart is selling this for $90 if you buy in-store. It’s still expensive but better than $100.
I've always had that idea since I was young, to build a miniature labyrinth and have a tiny little remote controlled vehicule equipped with a camera and place it in the middle and try to find the exit without cheating and looking at the actual labyrinth to see where I am... 😊
Great idea. Now you can :)
LoL, Disney Quest had that. It was really cool. You would search for treasure in the labyrinth. And your friend could help you navigate because the maze was under a plexiglass roof that they could see
"nintendo is good at dressing up" dude they don't hide it, they explain it..the fact that the modern consumer doesn't know about AR is their own problem xD
AR is not really used often or good when it comes to stuff like that. I remember from the PS Vita those AR Cards and something from Lego but overall nothing really there.
@@mrn234 3DS had AR with fun mini games
I’m going to get it because even if I get tired of it I’ll have the kart as a decorative thing and a cool story
True, and when you tire of it you can pass it on to your kid niece or nephew or just some young kid in your life that you like. I think it makes a lot of sense.
I wouldn't mind it just for the RCCar alone. Be a nice little prop, but then I Could also just drive it around like an actual RC car...
I'm chasing my dogs and cats around the house with this thing.
hopefully you pets won't destroy your rc

Perfect time for the video to drop. Now I can download it and watch on my commute.
Just a hunch, but I bet this will be a massive hit. As in, can’t find them leading up to Christmas. Seems to have a potentially broader appeal and replay value than Labo.
In short, it looks awesome! If I had kids, I’d totally pick up a couple.
It's a cool idea, but you need a fair bit of space to really enjoy this. It's kind of weird that Nintendo released this. They usually make products that appeal to Japan and the west, but Japanese houses are tiny compared to western ones.
@@fattiger6957 that's what I thought, but even in big western cities most people live in apartments or small houses. Also, in Europe house sizes are stil pretty small (but bigger than in Japan). In Japan most people live in apartments, not in houses though.

@@connor9568 but its a mario kart on the switch and thats enough for nintendo
I pre-ordered both Mario and Luigi, took them over to a friend's place and we had hours of fun. Just building new tracks, creating obstacles, little jumps and stuff like that. His whole house has smooth wooden flooring. So, once you're bumped up to 100cc, they actually do a move a bit quicker. Carpet/rugs slow them right down. The one thing I wish the karts had, is headlights. We made a track go into a dark room, to make it more challenging, so little headlights would've made that so much more cooler. 100% recommend!
This could be amazing in a big house with a dope track. Make a bunch of obstacles, get some verticality. But the price point, everyone needing their own switch, and everyone needing their own car, then all coming to the same physical location makes it nigh unreachable to play.
All that for the game to be ruined by a drifting piece of shit joycon
Look at Troy (TWD98) video of it. With a big living room, this could be a blast. Just wish the kart's weren't so expensive.
This would be a lot more accessible if you could play it on your phone
I bought both and my nephew and I both had a go at it last night and it’s extremely fun to play.. I highly recommend playing it as multiplayer than single player option.
How long did you both play with it?
Did if become boring at some point?
Yeah but that's 200 dollars and 2 switches required.... they really should sell the karts itself with diffrent characters separately
@@Nikolaos-Koemtzis for a few hours surprisingly and they weren’t near flat neither.
@@steveminecraft5887 there still wouldn’t be much difference in the prices though since you only get the kart, cable to charge and the cardboard checkpoints.
@@MikkiMae1994 thank you for taking time to read and answer to my comment. Could I ask one last thing please. Would you consider playing again or it would feel like a chore?
Thank you.
Talk about a stick in the mud on this one. I'm a "millennial" that plays games casually and picked this up today after watching yours + other videos, and I gotta say, I have an absolute blast plowing this around my house and my cat chasing it for 2+ hours. Glad I watched other videos besides yours otherwise I would've had a much more pessimistic outlook I think. $100 for an RC car with camera and an actual full game is MORE THAN worth it, in my opinion.
The Luigi version, yes. I'm gonna get that one to. Always loved Luigi since my brother's used to only let me play as Luigi when younger playing in the 80's.
This is so amazing. I hope we all can see this through he eyes of a kid and understand how great of an idea this is. If I had kids, this would be an amazing gift.
XBOX SERIES X, PS5, AND PC MASTER RACER meanwhile Nintendo is bring cool ideas to the market, kudos to Nintendo.
Your comment made no sense. You'd have to be a Nintendo fanboy to think that game makers with PC gaming companies, Sony, or Microsoft don't come up with innovative ideas. I game on Switch and Xbox and my Switch collects dust most of the time, despite me having over 70 games for Switch. The console is good for exclusives, but innovative ? Lmao, No. Most of their games have been the same game in different packages. Breath Of The Wild has been their only real innovative title in a long time. Third party games look and play worse compared to Playstation and Microsoft consoles. Joycons are awful for non exclusive games and so I had to pay another $70 for a pro controller
What sold me was the camera quality actually. You don't notice it being too grainy or off putting, it's an appropriate price I believe along with the other stuff you receive in the box. Niche yeah, but fun hell yeah it looks about!
This is actually RGT_85's set he just wanted spawnwave to put it together for him lol
Actually, I was going to say that this is ReviewRichUSA's set :).
this is one of the coolest toys I've ever seen. I'm sure they'll sell out of whatever stock they make for christmas, but I doubt it will go too much further than that due to the cost. As a parent, this is the sort of thing I can see buying my kids because I would have wanted it, but that they will play with for a few minutes three or four times.
Gotta credit nintendo this looks extremely impressive I mean it's literally 10x better than I expected
Wrong credit. Velan Studios made it, and then showed it to Nintendo.
I love that you added the "disappointing reality" window to this video.
I’m not interested but I think this is absolutely amazing.
Imagine if you gave this to a group of kids in a gymnasium. Oh my gosh they’d LOVE it
I like how Spawn Wave is finally in the background of a video game. Lmao. Imagine someone setting up and playing RIGHT in the middle of the track!
7:32 If you have a family, the cost of this game will put you right back into poverty.
100% guaranteed watching Mario dodge cats and dogs is going to be a meme this holiday.
It looks really cool. Good Video
I can already see the real life Mario kart tournaments being held by some convention.

the implementation of AR technology way more impressive than I thought
Hey all, scott here. (Looks at switch) *ITS F***IN MARIOKART AGAIN! breaks switch*
Yes
I love how just as Scott is nearing the end of the Mario Kart videos (I'm assuming he will do one on Tour, even if the game is trash), we get this. He'll probably do a video on this too.
"Disappointing Reality" Excellent touch lol
The problem is that you played it alone with the least effort course I’ve ever seen. No wonder you were disappointed.
I just laughed when I saw the "disappointing reality "... like the inner kid in you wanted to actually see the car speed up like crazy
Picked up two this morning for my kids (Christmas presents),
I can't imagine their surprise once they've opened the boxes!
This IDEA is bulletproof.
From this idea, it will "hatch" another or better idea.
We're getting some where here.
My apartment would be perfect for this! I want to play this game but right now I'm saving my money for Hyrule Warriors age of Calamity
I know you have limited space but 150 and 200 cc is much faster, could be cool for an outdoor course.
You should see the prices of RC cars that don't even let you to stuff like this.
I bought both the Mario and Luigi set, but live in a small apartment at the moment. Currently in the process of buying my 1st home, which is a huge 4 bedroom. Was curious how this would be once I set it up then, and I can see in this video that it would be loads of fun playing. Of course it would be better playing with others, which is why I ended up getting both. But, based on this video, I can see that it was a worthwhile purchase and will surely bring me loads of fun playing with my daughter who loves Mario Kart as well as my 17 yr old son who likes Mario Kart as well. Good video
I just played it! One word - AMAZING! So fun but you need the original pack with the accessories or it won't work.
Looks like an hour of fun. The flip-side of Nintendo being able to use "magic to disguise older tech" is that the are often too early to the game as the technology/usage isnt there yet. This will be wild next year when they figure a way around needing multiple switches.
I bet someone's gonna try to recreate all Mario Kart 8 tracks in real life.
On the other hand, I bet someone's gonna try to recreate real life race tracks in Mario Kart, such as Le Mans, Nürburgring and the like :).
I'd like to see some astronauts paint up a space station to make a real-life Rainbow Road.

It's totally fine to be playing with RC car games at 17. Hell if I had enough room for it, I'd be playing with this thing and I'm old enough to be your dad. Embrace your nerdiness.

Yeah and my place is the size of a Japanese home. So that's why this thing isn't even on my radar, plus it looks dumb anyway. I'd rather play Mario Kart levels in Mario Maker 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
I never planned to get it anyway, and this video didn't change my stance or plan, BUT I have to say it is a little cooler than I anticipated.

*on 50cc* "It's not super fast" well I wonder why
This is a fantastic start to a potential series!
I would have killed for that when I was a kid...
Got mine and just driving an RC with my switch is fun on its own. Only downside I see is the one car per switch issue with the game. Now if they could link up different cars to different player's controllers with a split screen style game play on one console, that'd take this concept up several notches instantly! Altho I'm kinda surprised it's wifi based and not bluetooth. Altho both would allow for individual units to be identified.
It would be more practical if the Kart, and therefore the track were smaller. If it was smaller I'd definitely buy it!!!!
I agree they should have made the cars smaller that way ppl would have the space to play it
maybe in the future, seems the tech inside the kart is not small enough. yes, there is small cameras and stuff but they usually cost more to implement
I think that if they were smaller the camera view would shake like crazy.
this looks like something I would have begged for for Christmas and then only played it once.
Does it matter if they get scratched, it's a child's toy🤷♂️
Okay a little to the left (crunch) oops I meant right. Your good, your good and stop! Its okay Captain that damage will buff right out! 😂
This could be a great thing as an extra mode for Mario Kart 9, kinda like Amibo but with more function.
You have the base MK9 with it's content then "Live Race", which if you have a Mario Kart Live Car, you can have an expanded version of MK:Live Home Circuit inside your MK9
Doesn't it speed up more depending on the selected race speed? I think he was racing at 100cc but you can do 150cc and 200cc.
looking at your studio set up and i realize its the same as my room set up - tv for script or game, engaging background... maybe i will start up yt again. Love your stuff jon, mad inspiring too!
I don’t understand why this game is being judged like a AAA title. ITS A TOY. FOR KIDS. Review it for what it is and imagine yourself at a young age playing with this
That's what I'm saying! Getting something like this with a switch lite is gonna bring a kid to tears with how much fun it will be
@Bolo No it's a toy with software, do you know how much good quality rc toys cost?
I just picked it up today. I'm actually really excited to star playing around with it. Luckily my apartment has a good amount of space. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to come up with interesting courses.
"You could just play regular Mario Kart..."
Or you could get an actual RC car and race it outside with ramps.
The fact that it’s physical can really be taken advantage of. If you’re losing, just pick up your kart and guide it along the track. Still looks pretty fun tho
I want it but it’s already being scalped. :(
It’s $200 everywhere when the retail price is $99.99, I guess I’ll have to wait until it’s in stock at the regular price :(
Not sure where you're at, but Walmart seems to have the Mario kit in stock now.
Yeah that isn't happening. Switch will be my last console with Nintendo since I also game on Xbox. I'm tired of their business practices that empower scalpers even before Covid was a thing
Yep early adopters always let what I call shinyitus get the best of them. Wait for 4 to 6 months and you'll not only find them in stock they be on sale somewhere for at least 25% off.
@@jdearing46 haha, when does Nintendo ever do good sales?
I did some AR stuff back in university and I have to say, it's pretty impressive how far the technology has come! The virtual objects seem to be attached to the real world pretty well, and since those cardboard gates are tracked and have known models, they can obstruct the virtual models. I'd be curious about what happens when the virtual objects go behind a real object that is not specifically tracked, or if the camera loses sight of the next gate for a while and so on.
From what I can tell from other videos, there's very little of real life objects obstructing the virtual objects - which is hidden mostly by careful adjustment of the draw distance of the course as the player is driving around it. As far as losing sight of the gates goes, it seems to handle that very well.
I’m shocked Mattel didn’t think of this with Hot Wheels.
Too much risk involve probally, Nintendo have been more open to try stuff. That why we have AR kart and Cardboard game on the switch XD
@@Picverse this might spark a new wave of AR racing games lol
technically they kinda have back in 2011 with the video racer car.
They kinda did... with the Ai series but nobody remembers the Ai series.
They should've put a clear plastic blister pack window on the box of the RC car.
Imagine going to the city's toy store and seeing hundreds of Yoshi, Shyguy and Rosalina karts on display. Mmm, they look _soo_ fun!
They're adding all this cool stuff to Mario kart spin offs and literally nothing for Mario kart 8, it's super disappointing
For sure, heck they don’t necessarily need to ever make a Mario kart game, just have like DLC’s maybe a season pass for new content with MK8 DX, that all being said. A new numbered Mario kart entry is welcomed at this point.
Have you not seen the rumors of a new Double dash style Mario kart game???
@@Chris-iq5pr a rumor means nothing, where's that star fix racing game?
I want to do this, make my own courses, complete with like jumps, raised bridges, and all of that kind of stuff that makes Mario cart so fun. Also, doing it outside-or maybe in like a roller rink-would be hella fun, especially with several live competitors. Set up cameras, broadcast it on twitch, make it a Mario cart themed nascar like deal... hell yeah.
This would have been a goldmine at the beginning of the pandemic. Haha... I'm sure it'll still do well though
