Took a 2012 EX out for a test drive yesterday. I really liked the car. It's very similar in layout to my current 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. I felt very comfortable in it.
Thanks for the input. I tested the cloth interior on a cold snowy weekend and didn't experience the issue that you noted, but a couple of days is a small smaple size. I'd go with the leather on most cars! Thanks for watching my vid! Tony
love this review! I test drove this today. The turning radius was so tight and the drive was awesome. It was my first time driving a Kia and I was really surprised.
I've heard that the cloth seats produce static electricity when certain fabric rub against them. I didn't experience this problem, but I only had the vehicle for a week and I pretty much had jeans on the whole time. The seats were comfortable and built well. Tony
I tested the LX model Base engine size: 2.4 L Cam type: Double overhead cam (DOHC) Cylinders: inline 4 Valves: 16 Valve timing: Variable Direct injection Torque: 186 ft-lbs. @ 4250 rpm Horsepower: 200 hp @ 6300 rpm Turning circle: 35.8 ft. Base engine type: gas
KIA's plant in the States is revolutionary-- If you take a tour there, you will see how much attention and effort is made to ensure best fit and finish, and quality. I think it will run well over those kms, a few of my friends own some older KIAs and they are still running strong.
Man, this style of the Kia Optima has really grown on me a LOT in the last week. I was going to get a 2011/12 Sonata but I think I may have to get a used Optima now. The exterior screams luxury.
sorry for the delayed response to your question. I hope that I can still help. All three cars you mentioned ROCK! you'll do better with KIA and Hyundai on the warranty and overall price in most cases. The Optima and Sonata come with more standard bling than the Camry. The Camry offers more space - the Toyota long term reliability and a more conservative look. - I have a 2012 Camry SE. I'd hit all of the dealers and get the best price. let me know what you decide to do - good luck!
dude your reviews are straight forward and ON THE POINT.. keep it up man!.. i'll have to give a "THUMBS UP" for this review! lol.. proud Optima owner here!
I test drove a 2012 Hyundai Sonata and a 2012 Kia Optima yesterday. I drove the Sonata first and loved it. But then I drove the Optima, and thought it was amazing. The Optima handles beautifully and I actually like the exterior look of the Optima better. I'm hoping to save up enough money to get an Optima in June. I NEVER thought I'd ever be looking at a Kia but this car is great!
Hi I like your reviews. The ones I like the most are with one of your friends. I like the interaction. Keep up the good work. From Calgary Alberta Canada
I really like your review of the Optima. I recently went to my local auto show and I was thoroughly impressed with the car inside and out. I was never a fan of Kia until this model came out. Peter Schreyer came over from Audi. He has given the car such a nice European flare. I need to go test drive one.
Awesome!!! let the dealer know that Tony from theMediaMart sent you - and that I'm looking for a few good sponsors! :) Thanks for watching my video! Tony
Great review. Really liked it! I actually just bought a 2012 optima yesterday. In fact, I bought pretty much this exact model. Just FYI though, don't know if it was just a slip, but you are driving the LX. It does have the GDI engine, but it's not turbo. Just 200 hp. The ex and sx are the next models up. Sx would have the turbo I believe. Again though, thank you. It helped me make my recent car buying decision for sure. 👍
i know - but to KIA's credit - when I was doing the research I read about the engine types and I just knew that I was driving the turbo - so in the rush of filming I didn't notice that I was in the LX - good news for all the average peeps that go for the base model - you'll still be rocking!! thanks for watching my video!
I just went to the web site and GDI is Gas Direct Injection, Both the turbo and Non-turbo have GDI. As for the Turbo emblem, you may be right, I didnt notice.
The KIA Optima is an awesome choice. I like it better than the Mazda 6 right now. I have yet to test the Dart so I can't speak for that. your best bet is to go give them all a test drive - since they are all good choices you can go with the best deal instead of falling in love with one product. let me know what you do and thanks for watching my video! Tony
Its about time Tony..lol.I was goin ask U when U were goin review this car cause I believe it won car of the yr for this yr in being the best mid size sedan beating out the previous winner in the Sonata.Which car in ur honest opinion is better the Sonata or Optima???But I believe the Sonata U test drove wasnt Turbo right??? Thanks & Im always enjoying ur reviews:)
@scaryfreak12345 you are right. I was testing the LX model. The Turbo is available in the EX or SX trim levels. average mistake from an average guy :) Thanks for pointing that out - LOVE!! Tony
I just got 2012 Optima Ex and I do love it..but I only got it yesterday...I'm sure by a month I will sink into it and feel right at home... but I am happy with my purchase! 21,300 dollars for a pre-owned vehicle with only 7600 miles! I feel as if that was a bargain
They are made by the same company - the Azira - is a bit more upscale - but I've never had the pleasure of driving one. the Optima is solid. I'd say you're good either way.
@TheMediaMart Hey Tony I think "@stangbang35" was talking about the brand new 2013 newly design Ford Fusion. The front of the car looks like the Aston Martin.Inside&outside of the car looks amazing with more digital screens&they have aBrand new "Lane assist".The car redirects Uback in2ur lane when Udrift off the lane. The wheel vibrates2let U know&also gives off warning signs on the screen telling U2 pull over.Whats ur next car review???Just curious Tony what cars do U have@home???
First off I love your car reviews, they really do help!!! I have a Q: I have a family of 3 & I'm looking for the BEST Mid/Full size car on the market. I'm talking fuel, warrenty, style, size for the best price long term. Toyoya Camry/Corrola has been very good to us in years past. I'm looking for something Nice for the Price!!! Can you give me your TOP 3 Cars in your opinion please!" I'm leaning toward Camry, Sonata & Optima.
haha I remember this video to be one of the first I've seen prior to getting into my 2012 LX (owned for 2 years)... traded that baby in for the '13 SXL (Mar 2015) and fast forward 5 years later.. still looks good and drives strong :)
just would like to say the model you reviewed is not the turbo model the turbo model is a 2.0T T-GDI not the standard gdi model great car though i do own one
@justthebestgolfer The Motor Trend Car of the Year is the VW Passat, but I LOVE this car! it is essentially the same vehicle as the Sonata - but it have a more firm sporty feel in my opinion. I'd go with the Optima for overall style & performance. Thanks!
Hey thank u very much for the Review .... i have a problem i want to buy a car that have the best look and the long term ... and i am torn between Azira 2012 and Optima 2012 > what d u think ?
My missus has the 2012 Hyundai Sonata, which is made by the same company and is what you actually drove with Kia's body panels. Awesome car. Great review. What was it you dropped at the end? You cellphone? Ha...
Is that over 29k? Out The Door?I want to buy one but it's allot of money with Nav/Pan roof.Close to the sx price? Can you buy this without the Navagation?just PanRoof.
took a business trip to DC on 9/11..rental company gave me an 2012 Optima Hybrid, but they had a Dodge Challenger on the lot. I was skeptical but figured, let's see what a Kia can do... 600+ miles later, and I am currently looking to buy a 2011 or 2012 black Optima Hybrid w/ Tech Package, for my 40mi daily roundtrip commute! Anyone had a major problems with an Optima Hybrid? I like the interior features of the 2011-2013 models better than the new 2014, but welcome your feedback.
Picked up a 2012 Optima EX luxury last week. Absolutely lovin' it. Your review rings true in every respect (although we require proof you can dunk a nerf ball, lol). Thanks for the review - job well done. Oh, and I really identify with that nasty winter...here in Niagara region.
hey - thanks for the comment. I see what you mean about the interior, but your example of the Honda is off base for me @ least with the Accord - that interior is god awful. The Optima Rocks - but for 30K you'd be better off looking @ one of the base luxury brands. Tony
@TheMediaMart You probably shouldn't have an iPhone then. Much more fragile. Everything is great here. Traded in my pickup cuz I was tired of the stick-shift. Bought a 2005 Lincoln Town Car. Super nice. Reminds me of your friend's Caddy. You should review one. You'd love it...
I agree with you. I used to run from KIA cars on the rental lot - now I'm searching for them! Thanks for your kind words and for watching my vid! Tony
Both are very good choices. The Optima is solid and a value leader. Thanks for watching my video! Tony
Indeed! they are pretty sweet! Thanks for watching my video! Tony

you are right. I actually did a video correcting that mistake. Thanks for watching my vid! Tony
I was testing the base model. I love the car - lots of value and style! thanks for watching my video!
I really enjoyed driving the Optima! Thanks for watching and commenting on my vid! Tony
I tested the LX model

I hope you get the job because the Optima is one sweet ride! Thanks for watching my video! Tony
I agree on all points! Good luck and let me know when you get your KIA!

Hi I like your reviews. The ones I like the most are with one of your friends. I like the interaction. Keep up the good work. From Calgary Alberta Canada

@airtouch01 Indeed! I agree! Thanks for watching my video! Tony
Man... Looking at the car on the sight... if I get this job coming up I am about to get this... looks so nice!
@scaryfreak12345 you are right. I was testing the LX model. The Turbo is available in the EX or SX trim levels. average mistake from an average guy :) Thanks for pointing that out - LOVE!! Tony
the 2013 Sonata's steering has been improved so the gap has closed. they're essentially the same car.
Tony , I love your reviews ..... thank you brother and god bless you .
theMediaMart Nicest review ever! gonna buy this kia soon!

Great review as always! Hope the phone is alright...
@StangBang35 the fusion does rock indeed! but don't sleep on the Optima - nice vehicle! Tony
did you get your Optima? how do you like it?
First off I love your car reviews, they really do help!!! I have a Q: I have a family of 3 & I'm looking for the BEST Mid/Full size car on the market. Getting an OPTIMA LX Next month! Can't wait!

Fantastic review!! love the energy! great car
just would like to say the model you reviewed is not the turbo model the turbo model is a 2.0T T-GDI not the standard gdi model great car though i do own one
I hear you - KIA is making great strides - If you love the car - you'll keep it for a long time :)
Yes - I know that made a mistake in my intro. I was so excited about the car's performance :)
I love this car too! look for the review of the Optima Hybrid soon!
Bought an EX w/navi :-) in metal bronze! It's sooo gorgeous !
Test drove one today....love this car and loved this review!!
I've been looking at the Buick Regal, but this one has me interested.
The car looks great. How is the resale value, how will it perform past 100,000 kms or 150,000kms. This is where Honda has edge over any vehicle.
My missus has the 2012 Hyundai Sonata, which is made by the same company and is what you actually drove with Kia's body panels. Awesome car. Great review. What was it you dropped at the end? You cellphone? Ha...
Congrats!!! I love the Optima!
wait, i dont think your optima is turbo charged because the engine should say T-GDi so you have the 200hp one right?
You are right my friend! see video correction in your mailbox
A co-worker bought one and his only gripe is a little too much road and tire noise, do you concur? He had a Crown Vic, so maybe he was spoiled!
Thank you Sir for this review. My family and I are shopping for another vehicle. I am convince. I will be getting this Kia Optima
Awesome choice! Enjoy the ride!
if you had to choose this one or the Accord for keeps, which would it be?
is this car any reliable? i know kia and like Hyundai have stepped up there game but idk it's still a kia. i love the looks, but im still hesitant.
Not the turbo edition it would say it on the engine cover or on the trunk T-GDI
@TheMediaMart i thought only the SX trim line has the tubro? unless that is only in canada.....
I just got a kia optima!!!!! 16k, 18k out of the door. AMAZINGGGGG. its a beauty
Is that over 29k? Out The Door?I want to buy one but it's allot of money with Nav/Pan roof.Close to the sx price? Can you buy this without the Navagation?just PanRoof.
I would have to agree with you! Thanks!
Nice review but this is actually an Optima LX. It's the base model with no turbo and base option! The turbo model have way better option and power.
Great review, most people that do these video's have know idea what they're doing, or what they're talking about
took a business trip to DC on 9/11..rental company gave me an 2012 Optima Hybrid, but they had a Dodge Challenger on the lot. I was skeptical but figured, let's see what a Kia can do...

I like the interior features of the 2011-2013 models better than the new 2014, but welcome your feedback.
The model you have doesn't have a Turbo. The ex turbo and ax do though
I was thinking of the new 2013 Honda accord while that be a good car then the optima and the mazda6 and dart?
it did fine in the snow when I had it.
congrats! enjoy it!
I wish I could get one too!
Where's the panoramic sunroof? and the Start button?
Picked up a 2012 Optima EX luxury last week. Absolutely lovin' it. Your review rings true in every respect (although we require proof you can dunk a nerf ball, lol). Thanks for the review - job well done. Oh, and I really identify with that nasty winter...here in Niagara region.
Congrats! I LOVE the Optima! enjoy it and enjoy Spring - if it ever comes!
Hey, could you review the Toyota Avalon??
hey - thanks for the comment. I see what you mean about the interior, but your example of the Honda is off base for me @ least with the Accord - that interior is god awful. The Optima Rocks - but for 30K you'd be better off looking @ one of the base luxury brands. Tony

Awesome! I'm jealous!! Thanks for letting me know -- send me a video of your new ride!
thanks man. looking to buy one of the latest versions soon.
