    Has a bike ride ever radicalized you?

    Protected and separated bike lanes should not even be up for debate. They should just be everywhere. It's a matter of basic safety. Those voices at council meetings that try to tell us that people on bicycles don't deserve basic safety, need to just be ignored. Everybody deserves basic safety when just trying to get around the city, so putting bicycle riders in harm's way is unacceptable.

    SoCal needs dedicated/protected bikeways...Politicians take note...and that bright green paint becomes very slippery/unsafe when wet...

    Great video. I bike in LA, live in Koreatown, and take transit, and I echo your thoughts. I don't ever plan on owning a car again.

      Thank you! Koreatown is pretty great for that. Hope you’re excited for the purple line extension!

    Great video, as for myself I was riding the roadways via a bicycle here in what is now known as SILICON valley way back in the late 70's when there was basically no bike lanes, during the early 80's I was commuting from Down town San Jose to Mt View, round trip on no other than one of the busiest road ways here in the bay aera El Camino Real, so to say I learned real fast on how to navigate busy road way REAL FAST! It was said back then, learning how to communicate with motorist was a big plus for me. Some of the reason why bike lanes were not a priority back then #1 there wasn't many cyclist on the roadways and #2 the cost was roughly one million$ per mile, ask me how many other cyclist did I see while on my 40 mile round trip commuting back and fourth to work, ZERO! This was way back in the 80's, sure there are way more cyclist on the road ways to day, but it still doesn't justify the cost to the TAX payer. I now live in the country of the bicycle, the Netherlands, and how are they able to fund the bicycle infrastructure here is through taxation, VAT is roughly 23%, gas here is nearly double that of the U.S. car products is on average 200% more that that of the U.S. And a simple Jiffy lube type of an oil change for a compact car there it is roughly $ 35.00 the same type of oil change here equivalent in U.S.D will be roughly $ 230.00. Sure the Netherland bicycle infrastructure is super nice, but a lot of cyclist are seeing their fair share of bicycle accidents, my son tangled with a car that was making a right turn, of which he had the right of way, bicycle was totalled, a friend of my wife got wacked by a car and a year later he's still paying the price, 2 of my friends got hurt real bad with bicycle on bicycle accidents while riding on bicycle lanes, one ended up with 3 broken ribs, a punctured lung and a badly twisted knee, the other ended up with a broken collar bone and a broken wrist, so to say bicycle lanes users here are seeing their fair share of bicycle accidents and due to the introduction of the Electric bicycles, bicycle accident here in Holland has risen by 30%. Bicycle lanes are great, but motorist in general needs to be better educated for when dealing with cyclist.

    The Expo bike path is a nightmare if you’re actually trying to get anywhere quickly.

    Im a runner and I do my daily runs in this exact area. Sadly even being on the sidwalk in this area is risky. I nearly get hit every day. People dont properly stop at stop signs on roads like Burbank Blvd. However I ran on this bike path today and it felt so much safer. I wish the path was closer than a mile away from me. But for my long runs ill be trying to hit this path.

    Patchwork.... that's the best we have in Hollywood, white stripe of paint and a bike path sign is more common and even then the stripes often go for a few blocks. Now we have a bit of protected path along Hollywood Blvd for a distance. I rarely drive including for groceries, it's completely doable. Griffith Park is a nice option for car free place to pedal - there are streets blocked off from cars.

    There’s an Aldi at the end of the chandler bike path! If it was me I’d just go there for groceries, I like to modify my trips around the infrastructure but it can be limiting depending where you are. I grew up in Burbank right off the bike path and never realized how special it was until recently. LA and Burbank have a lot of work to do, but one place to start is building better infrastructure AROUND bike paths like these so that you can get to and from them safely and are not dependent on the bike path only

      Absolutely! We checked out Handy Market. It’s an awesome little store with a deli (I’m sure you’ve heard of it as a local). Would love to see Hollywood way get more bike infrastructure as I feel like connecting it to the metrolink/future burbank BRT on olive would be massive!

      @@SlackerStuff Oooh Handy Market is the best!! They have the best barbecue on Saturdays. It would be amazing if they connected the bike path with the BRT with connected bike lanes or a bus line. The thing about building in Burbank is that there’s a lot of NIMBYs and resistance to any sort of walkable infrastructure, but I think it is so important to have safe bike infrastructure considering it is such a family oriented town. They definitely have a lot of work to do but the BRT is a step in the right direction!

    Did you know that in some city in LA it is illegal to ride your bike in the sidewalk ? And did you know cops will stop your for pedaling in the street for no reason … so I just go on the street

    • @glenmorrison8080
      @glenmorrison8080 10 днів тому

      I sometimes see commentary online hating people who ride on sidewalks. This should not apply the same in LA. It is sometimes the only workable option, and also we have almost no one walking sidewalks. This is a truly inhospitable non-vehicle environment.
