Lessons in UA-cam for TAOW: Lesson 1: It's your channel Lesson 2: Never be sorry, creative ideas are what makes things beautiful even if the designs are not(hint: I luv the design). LoL! Lesson 3: It's still your channel! Seriously! That is a very creative idea of designing, building and using those creations for the benefit of all those that sub and enjoy! My uncle has a long board that's about a 1/3 longer and maybe a couple inches wider than your but I really like your design better because of those end extension to help define it and look as you say, "more 3D". Well done and look forward to your next video to this series.
You do really great work. Especially for your age! I hope you continue to get better and have a great time doing it. I appreciate your use of files in your videos, they demonstrate great patience and an eye for find detail.
I dont know this channel. Just watched 2 mins of this video and had to leave a like and a comment saying how stoked i am about the approach to making tis video. And the excecution. Loving the quality of mindset so far!
when i was a lad over 50 years ago , it was cool to use roller skates the kind you attach to your sneakers find a 2x4 and attach the roller wheels with nails to each end of the 2x4 . then find an old milk crate and nail it to the board and use pop bottle corks and tack them to the milk crate for coolness , fast and lots of fun . kids don't make them anymore or play with air rifles [just air] and play cops n robbers or cowboys n indians .
dude this is too cool, I hadn't considered this before but when you make it like that it won't have wheel bite. now I gotta go design one and see if I can build it eventually.
Nice build! if you're making boards regularly you should use your casting skills on your favourite shape (top and bottom). A car jack for pressure? Nice wheel colour btw!
I made a longboard a while ago and one piece of advice would be to have an alternating grain pattern in all your layers to add some flew to the board. I know you did this on purpose, but having some flex in your board is a good thing.
As additional tip, when laminating the plywood, put the sheets into water proof container like sink or bathtub and pour in water hot as possible (In my case i let hot as the tab could give). Make sure wood is covered with water and let it sit around a 45 minutes to hour, even longer if your doing extreme (edge of breaking) bends. Take plywood off from water, swip it in air so most of the surface water flies off and quickly put it into your form. Let it sit couple of days and then release, add glue and put it back to your form. You can add glue right away after soaking, but if your not in hurry give it a time, as if your form is odd shape or with hard turns, putting your pre formed plywood into with glue makes it so much easier and helps to prevent layer delamination mistakes. To be noted i'm not certain or seen any signs of this, but technically wood should be all dry before adding glue as wood will suck the moisture and glue into material, where wet wood would be already wet, so material could be lacking those sucking properties and make weaker bond. Then again water in the wood technically could thin out the glue and mix it inside the wood, giving strong bond.. I'm not sure witch is the case, but both techniques seemed to work just fine, thought first one prevents those mistakes. After your done, you need to let the wood dry up to 3 days, before coating it to get most of the moisture out, but then again this method gives wood way less surface tress, locking layers in place, with out wood trying to spring outwards much as the dry wood would.
Thank you for the great video! Here in the U.S we have a wood glue called Titebond III, if it is available in the U.K i would highly recommend giving it a try for your projects. I am a ski builder and not a skater, however i still found the electric longboard series fascinating. Cheers!
Nice work, here's some advise: Three layers would have been enough and still pretty stiff. 16mm is really thick. Also, you shouldnt put all layers in one direction to prevent torsion. Good thing you used plywood. I'm looking forward to the motorized version 😃
Nice! And you used Paris Trucks to boot! Are those the 195´s? I use those on just about all my decks. Hella stable, great smooth linear steering response, and since the V2's, much less likely to go banana. Also, great choice on the paint. Boat laquer becomes glasshard and really tough when dried, even moreso with 3 properly prepared coats.
you should paint stuff on the board like casey neistat does. like an arrow and TAOW in bold letters. also you could buy some LED strips to go underneath, that would be pretty dank.
+LemonPie4Me If he does do L.E.D he should have included it in the base design and actually cut into the board, having them hang just below the board is tacky like you said.
+zach suedmeyer that would definetely be slicker, but I dislike undercarriage lighting. I like plain wood, or painting, but just not a fan of LEDs. Like I said personal preference. It would be cool, but I don't like it on my board.
i made a long board a few months back and im too cheap to buy 20 quids worth of Baltic birch. so i used marine ply, this hold me and im 16 stone, i man easity bounce up and down on the board and doesnt make a noise. i also a wall paper stripper (steamer ) to add a bend in to the wood like the boosted board has. i am now saving up to buy the components to make a electric skateboard.
Hi, i like your vid and want to try this myself, only i live in norway and all attempts to search/translate baltic birch to norwegian fails so im wondering if baltic birch is..just birch or if im missing something? aprechiate reply
Is it possible to add layers of fiberglass cloth inbetween each layer of wood before gluing to give it extra strength? and how would one go about doing that ?
Nope, not possible and even worse I guess... Because the wood glue won't impregnate the glass fibres (you would need a special resin for that to happen, but i think this resin won't stick to wood). This means that if there occurs a crack, this crack will just grow in the glue resulting in a intermembrane crack, because the interface between the glue and the fibre is very weak, and this would even make the whole deck more sensitive to failure.
wouldnt different direction grain plys make it tougher in all directions, not just up and down? and its best for there to be minimal glue squeezeout. just my opinions.
Be careful when cutting unsupported on the table saw( no fence or mitre sled etc). Very easy for it to go wrong. I ended up in surgery and using the same saw as you funnily enough.
+Ariel Barton I was cutting like he was with hands both side of the blade, no fence or anything. The wood caught, pulled my hand onto the blade and ended up with the end of my pinky getting stitched back on, my ring finger fractured and disfigured. So now missing some bone and nerve damage in my ring finger and had to have surgery on it. The saw is cheap and not very accurate. The mitre guage is rubbish and just cheap amd flimsy, Id look at paying maybe £30 more and getting something a little better.
Anyone who says a longboard can't be a weapon, has not been hit in the head with a longboard. They make clear grip tape too. Great for putting your logo under, or letting the wood show through.
Alright, I'm following your video here religiously. So I aim to do the exact same as you: an electric longboard. I used regular ply and learnt the hard way. I'm currently making mine at school since it's the only place where I have the tools needed for making it, and I wanted to know where I can buy the material. I know in your video you showed that you got it from eBay, but I have a problem where I can't take it too or from school, and they don't accept deliveries. So are there any shops that sell the right stuff? Like travis Perkins? Also, I'm gonna be making mine a meter long. Will the birch be able to hold my weight, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm a heavy guy.
I mean a longboard is supposed to flex that's one of the reasons why you glue multiple layers together. If you look at the boosted board for example, flexes so that it almost touches the ground.
if the kingpin was inside he would be turning left when he turns right and he would be turning left when he turns right. that's why they are called reverse kingpin trucks

looks pretty good to me
hey do you have another video comeing soon?
For sure. I'm always working on new videos.
+NightHawkInLight cool cant wait to see them
thanks! I'm glad you liked it
+TAOW I live in England too

Dude, don't apologize that it's not a weapon, I farking love this. Definitely want to see updates.

Also check out Braille Skateboarding, especially their "you make it, we skate it" series.
was waiting for something like this. the concave gives grip and allows for tighter turns to be made and helps with sliding
dude this is too cool, I hadn't considered this before but when you make it like that it won't have wheel bite. now I gotta go design one and see if I can build it eventually.
Next Video: How to Cast Your Own Aluminum Trucks.
yes please
That would be cool
if somebody could do that, i´ll call him the god of aluminium casting
Alex Flohr that would be hard because lost casting doesn't have the best quality but it's possible
Great video, especially the part when u explain alternative for a jig saw when most of us do not have a table saw.
Cant wait to see how you build the electric version! Really good work!
I'm glad to see something different on your channel! keep up the good work TAOW!

Attach some led strips for a under glow effect. They are cheap off eBay, and it would be easy when you already have a battery there
Wasted charge wouldn't be good for run time
Ok man thanks for the info :)
You keep impressing me man, great work!
I love this project dude, great job!
smart young man. i love his videos. nice build
Looking forward to this video series!
I made mine following your vid and it broke doing a ghostride kickflip, Thanks man. Also I weigh 50 kg
awesome video! loved this, i wouldnt mind at all getting some off topic videos
Long board hype, well done👍

Sweet project dude!

Aren't led strips kinda tacky? Just personal opinion of course. Sometimes they look cool
+LemonPie4Me If he does do L.E.D he should have included it in the base design and actually cut into the board, having them hang just below the board is tacky like you said.

LemonPie4Me No, no, I agree I'm not a fan of most L.E.D lighting I was just saying that if it is included it needs to be in prefab not as an add-on
+zach suedmeyer yes
I like the off topic video keep it coming
Thats a sick board bro nice vid
Good shit bro! I love long boarding. Makes me wanna make my own board now😂
i made a long board a few months back and im too cheap to buy 20 quids worth of Baltic birch. so i used marine ply, this hold me and im 16 stone, i man easity bounce up and down on the board and doesnt make a noise. i also a wall paper stripper (steamer ) to add a bend in to the wood like the boosted board has. i am now saving up to buy the components to make a electric skateboard.
I was dreaming while watching this 😍
Can you make a skateboard out of the big 10 gallon plastic buckets with wood or aluminum?
hi do you have a link for where I can buy the same trucks and wheels? thanks
keep up the great videos very talented man.
Good work, as always!
Any plans to add some sort of channel logo on the bottom?
nice job man awesome board!!!!!
Looks fantastic!
might be a dumb question but how did you aquire all this knowledge especially at your age?
love your videos
Good Video Also what is your favourite longboard type
Did you varnish the topside of the board? Would that effect the bond with the grip tape?
Hi, i like your vid and want to try this myself, only i live in norway and all attempts to search/translate baltic birch to norwegian fails so im wondering if baltic birch is..just birch or if im missing something? aprechiate reply
Very cool. Looks sweet!
i didn't quite understand why you decided to cut all the plywood in the same direction. i thought alternate grain direction makes the board stronger?
Nice vids bro you're great! 👌🏻
Is it possible to add layers of fiberglass cloth inbetween each layer of wood before gluing to give it extra strength? and how would one go about doing that ?
Nope, not possible and even worse I guess... Because the wood glue won't impregnate the glass fibres (you would need a special resin for that to happen, but i think this resin won't stick to wood). pathetic yes, if you sand the wood with 80 grit sandpaper before and then use polyester resin it should work well, and be a lot stronger
wouldnt different direction grain plys make it tougher in all directions, not just up and down? and its best for there to be minimal glue squeezeout. just my opinions.
What wood polisher did you use?
Nice work!
awesome
can you do a video of hdpe knuckle duster cuz that would be awesome!

+Pete holly shit m8
I also now have 1/2 a nail on my ring finger.
Ouch!
Could you give the link of the trucks and wheels?
Anyone who says a longboard can't be a weapon, has not been hit in the head with a longboard.
They make clear grip tape too. Great for putting your logo under, or letting the wood show through.
Hahah
can you do this with a regular skate board?
Mate, nice video as always!
I've got a question: where do you buy the trucks kit? I really could not understand in the video.
Thanks :)
Hi
What is the width of the rectangles that you cut in the beginning
The art of weapons intensifies.
you should have made it a pintail since that shape of board normally has drop through trucks. Just something i notice.
Can you use solid wood?
You should do duel motors for more power!
Alright, I'm following your video here religiously. So I aim to do the exact same as you: an electric longboard. I used regular ply and learnt the hard way. could you use that to slide and do some downhill riding?
If you made it a drop down drop through deck, it would be suitable enough for downhill and slides.
Hi.Can u make video about how to make trucks?
Nice Build Can you make a slingshot build from metal :)
He has already cast multiple slingshots from aluminium, (There in his metal casting playlist if you where wondering)
Love this project
where did you order the trucks
Can you make HDPE penyboard
cool vid! i think ima try this.
Nice, in My opinion longboard decks with flex is much more confertable to ride
I mean a longboard is supposed to flex that's one of the reasons why you glue multiple layers together. If you look at the boosted board for example, flexes so that it almost touches the ground.
Excellent!
nice build. thanks
very nice job
Where did you find the template?
Can you link the ebay seller? I cant find it
How long is your deck
You near manchester?
Great project! But you mounted the trucks backwards, the bushing \ kingpin should face the inside of the board.
Actually longboard trucks have outward facing kingpins
they are called revers king pin trucks, they ar more stable at high speed
if the kingpin was inside he would be turning left when he turns right and he would be turning left when he turns right. that's why they are called reverse kingpin trucks
+Anthony Marin oops I meant he would be turning right when he turns left and he when he turns and when he turns right he would be going left.
bro...this is epic
what is the music
how wide is the board?
link to the wood?
Great video
Anyone know where I can find that template?
Lol!!! Incredibly careful to shoot from the arms down.
Can anybody link me a site to buy the 4mm wood
if its you on the long board you look tall how tall are you ?
Soooo awesome!!!
I loved this
Not a weapon but really enjoyed this build
Do someone have a templates? I really need it. Silverfishlongboarding.com doesn't work.
Why no graphic?
Why did you changed the name of the chanell?!
after you cut the edges off of the grip tape, just rub the screw driver over the edges again. no need to use sand paper
Nice vid
Make a video about making the electric longboard.
oohhhhhbi can slide with that power slide
