Дальневосточная Песня, Song of the Far East, is one of those obscure Soviet songs from the pre-WWII era. The history of this specific song is rather interesting. The English version of sovmusic.ru says it written in honour of Zhukov’s 1939 Battles of Khal-khin Gol against the invading Japanese. This is somewhat but not completely true. The song first originated shortly after the 1929 Sino-Soviet conflict following the Chinese Eastern Railway Incident (中国东方铁路事件，Конфликт на Китайско-Восточной железной дороге). Wikipedia provides a detailed account of the short conflict, but basically a young local Chinese warlord forcibly seized the Soviet-controlled CER in Manchuria in the name of Chinese patriotism and sovereignty, only to find the might of Vasily Blyukher's Special Red Banner Far Eastern Army (Особая Краснознамённая Дальневосточная армия) crushing in on him. In the end, let’s say things didn’t end too well for the Chinese. Hmm, so this is actually a song celebrating Soviet imperialism against China, and as a proud Chinese myself…I simply couldn’t give any fuck about this at all. Calm down people, this is an apolitical music channel; you guys are all here for the art (I hope), so let’s not start bullshitting about some border conflict that happened pretty much a century ago.

The song’s original lyrics were slightly different to the one you’re listening now, with more of an emphasis on Blyukher and the CER conflict. However, the song continued to be a popular tune long after that, and when the Japanese came in 1939, its lyrics were “updated” to make it more… general purpose, I guess? Instead of the forgotten Blyukher, Voroshilov and Budyonny (famous Russian Civil War generals) became the heroes mentioned in the song. And in 1970 the world-renowned Bolshoi Chorus recorded this wonderful rendition. And now you’re watching it with the only English and Chinese translation available on the Internet.
This version is a lot better than the grainy, Stalinist-era recording. Really nice!
