Wtf, what makes you think Chinese-Filipinos are “higher” than those of normal Filipino blood? I’m Filipino-chinese and I’ve never felt that. And I’ve lived here my whole life. What makes you think the other guy wasn’t snubbed just because he came from the US? These dudes really be thinking they’re something special.

I asked filipino workers, relax bro. It's a classist society, and Chinese people are seen as having money. So they're put into a separate class.

Spanish Filipino mestizos or Filipino mestizos in general are still considered higher class and UPPER CLASS/ ELITES

Watching this reminds me of older generation. A lot of opinions here are programming I got when young, that when examined coming bk to PH felt convenient generalisations of the culture.

Just an fyi to Filipino Americans who think they know the mind set of “Filipinos” in the
    Philippines.
First of all, just because you are Chinese/Filipino does not mean you are above the regular Filipino. Yes, the comment about “it’s not so much about race or skin color” may be true. However, it's usually the younger crowd without any substantial education or upbringing who think about skin color. Yet, do not assume just because you dress a certain way or talk better English, Filipinos would think you belong to a higher class. Trust me, there are billionaires in dollars that walk around BGC with simple clothes on. So, that comment about Chinese Filipinos being above the regular Filipino is pretty presumptuous. That mentality can equate to something like prostitutes gravitating or thinking highly of guys with bling blings. That’s universal and true outside the Philippines.
Secondly, please use common sense when saying BGC is a bubble or anything nice in the Philippines is some sort of an anomaly. The area of the country that is pure nature, unspoiled and pristine is a thousand more than what vloggers always magnify such as poverty or substandard areas like shanty towns in and around Manila. So by your logic, outside BGC or the rest of the Philippines is just squalor and garbage?
It’s really irritating when vloggers use the term bubble when describing BGC. That’s like saying Boracay is a bubble. Palawan is a bubble. Amanpulo is a bubble. Batanes is a bubble. Vigan is a bubble. Mt. Mayon is a bubble. Whey do foreigners love using the word bubble when describing a place like BGC?
Going back to the social classes in the Philippines. For everyone’s information, the older society of the Philippines does not consider the color of a person’s skin nor how much money a person has, it’s the overall package of a person or his/her family. This is mainly outside the big city like Manila. It’s all about your family history first and foremost. Did you provide and set a good example to your family or contribute to the community? Of course wealth is considered. But not by how much you have, it’s how you attained it, is it clean or is it dirty?
Yes, unfortunately, there is a superficial classist environment especially in the urban areas or big cities. But for the Filipino Americans who come to the Philippines and bring that American racist mentality about skin color, DUDE, that really is not an issue in the Philippines. It’s all about your demeanor and upbringing. Most local Filipinos look pass the obvious or appearances; instead, they try to figure out the importance or relativity of your family history.
Manila or BGC is a bubble indeed. That bubble is not about skin color, wealth or better infrastructure. It is about that superficial attitude or lack of deeper knowledge in local history.

      @Jlazinlas 10 місяців тому +3

I would correct you though that it’s not only the “younger crowd” who think about skin color. I’d argue that it’s actually the boomers who tend to care more about a person’s skin color.

All I can say, Wes, having once been married to my widdle Phillipina wife, who weeley weeley weeley loved me until her citizenship papers came legal. In the Phillipina game of love? You start out as an Ace. You arrive as a King. You marry your Queen, and then you get Jacked. In the Phillipino poker game of love, no matter the hand you're dealt? you're the Joker every time bro. LOL

Another great video! Living in Seattle there is a large Filipino population and I've never met one who wasn't absolutely the nicest person. Love these Southeast Asia videos, and Columbia, but one thing I'm curious about that you don't seem to cover much and that is the quality of and access to the local health care systems. For someone looking to eventually move to one of these countries that is an important issue. It may be that as a younger guy you just haven't had the need to engage with the system much or just an oversight since there's so much other great stuff to cover, but curious about that aspect.

My uncle looks chinese as hell but still the DNA test just showed me as filipino cebuano. Maybe try a dna test for the channel though?

I might be confusing sexpat with John, but how does ethnicity make that more or less icky. I understand the reaction but the reaction is also icky. Ethnicity should not have anything to do with it being icky. I suppose it’s like a white person that gets worked up by seeing a white girl with a black guy. I think that aversion is something that one needs to put in check because it’s messed up.
What I don’t like is seeing western guys or locals using economic advantage to use women for sex. Again, anyone can exploit and it doesn’t matter the ethnicity.
For the low income person that marries a poor Filipina, I also don’t see an incompatible match. Who cares? It’s not something to rip on and many of these regular guys in the west have lost out to the online hook up culture. I don’t think these guys are losers at home or are worthy of that unless they are marrying into a wealthy and successful family. However who cares if it works for them?
I’ve also seen young guys that are educated, nice looking, come from good families and are making the big bucks, with similar age Filipina wives. This could be the champ wife hunter type. They are purely after the Filipina cutie that they can build a family with. I don’t think they are losers either.
However, I wonder if the two of you feel like you could be losers back home? Does the shoe fit? If you’re casually dating women that know you’re Americans, it’s an advantage, right. Is it possible that you are a sexpat or loser back home? I think we should be careful to isolate the problem behavior from that decent behavior because I think there’s a difference. Some things deserve scorn but it should be equally applied also. The legit people should be respected.
