Walk from Al Shohadaa Hotel to Masjid Al Haraam I Makkah I مسجد الحرام I مكة

This is the famous 5-star Al Shohadaa Hotel in Ajyad Street Makkah; those that went to perform Hajj and Umrah from the UK years ago will talk about this hotel in its hey days and will always recommend the hotel even to this day. But time has moved on and this is quite evident from the décor and interior of the hotel just like all other 5-star time-pieces. But I must state the hotel is making a good effort in order to maintain the hotel to its bygone days of being a 5 star; the hotel smells good, has good service, restaurant is small but ok and the breakfast buffet is limited but bearable.
This was the cheapest of the 5-star hotel we could find on a last-minute umrah trip as all the other hotels were very experience during December 2019. We stayed as two friends in the hotel but would not recommend for families with children and elderly alike as the 20-minute round walk from the masjid starts to wear you down. In addition, the road outside the hotel is far too busy with many taxis going around the circuit and also a coach stand being situated opposite the hotel as well makes it a hazardous area to stay; in fact, during our stay an elderly uncle was hit by a cab whilst walking towards the masjid. There is a couple of shops nearby as well as a money exchange and an expensive launderette around the corner and also a very nice Pakistani restaurant 2minutes walk from the hotel.
Saptco coach stand is right opposite the hotel and this was very handy for us as we done a day-trip to Madinah and took the VIP Saudi Government-owned Saptco coaches. It cost 220SAR (£41) per person for a return journey to Madinah and we chose to leave at 9am (the coaches are very prompt!) and returned at 2:30am the following morning. The journey by coach takes approximately 7 hours and is a non-stop trip but the coach provides light snacks, tea and coffee, free WiFi and every seat has a TV screen and a USB charger and not mention the very small on-board toilets!
